Alan Garner was born on October 17, 1934 in Congleton, Cheshire, England, UK. He is a writer and producer, known for Spooky (1983), Leap in the Dark (1973) and Elidor (1995). He has been married to Griselda Greaves since 1972. They have two children. He was previously married to Ann Cook.
He was awarded the O.B.E. (Officer of the Order of the British Empire)
in 2001.
Has won the Guardian Award, the Carnegie Medal, the Phoenix Award and
the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for his fiction, as well as the Chicago
International Film Festival 1st Prize for his educational film
"Images."
After a severe emotional period during the filming of The Owl Service (1969), he was
diagnosed with manic depression.
