As Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) celebrated her primary election victory on Tuesday night, her former colleague and boyfriend, special prosecutor Nathan Wade, watched from the audience.
In March, Wade abruptly resigned from his role as the special prosecutor in the high-profile Georgia election interference case and admitted to a romantic affair with Willis while he was working there. The presiding judge, Scott McAfee, stated that due to the affair, either Willis or Wade would need to recuse themselves from the case.
Lawyers who represented Donald Trump and the 14 others accused in the alleged scheme to illegally overturn Trump’s loss in the 2020 Georgia presidential election quickly seized upon the revelation. They requested McAfee dismiss the case and argued that Willis and Wade had benefited financially from their relationship through lavish vacations and that Wade had been paid more than other prosecutors who worked on the same case.

Former Donald Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade revealed that he does not regret his affair with Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, but does the controversy that occurred over it.
In an interview with ABC News, he commented on the matter after resigning from the Trump election case in Georgia, after a judge decided either he or Willis had to step down.
When asked if he regretted the affair, Wade said, “I regret that that private matter became the focal point of this very important prosecution.”
“Workplace romances are as American as apple pie,” Wade discussed. “It happens to everyone. But it happened to the two of us.”
Willis and Wade ensured that while they were romantically involved, nothing started between them until 2022, after Wade was selected to prosecute the Trump case, and things ended in 2023.

Donald Trump’s first criminal trial will begin on April 15.
Judge Juan Merchan ruled on Monday that the former president’s criminal hush-money trial will kick off next month. The ruling comes after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg agreed to delay the initial start date of March 25 so that his office could review new records from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Updated: A judge delayed Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial, in which he faces charges related to hush money payments paid to Stormy Daniels, by 30 days from today.
The trial was scheduled to start on March 25, the first of four criminal cases the former president faces.
Instead, the judge, Juan Merchan, will hold a hearing on that date and schedule a new date after ruling on Trump’s motions. His lawyers have raised objections over discovery issues.
The delay in the start of the trial was expected, after prosecutors informed the judge that they would support a delay after getting a trove of new documents in the case from the Justice Department.
The trial delay cast new doubts on what, if any, cases will come before a jury before the November election.
Trump also faces charges related to his withholding of classified documents after he left the White House.

In a significant ruling on Friday, an Atlanta judge has given Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis the green light to proceed with the prosecution of Donald Trump and his co-defendants for their alleged involvement in attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election.
However, the decision is conditional on Nathan Wade, one of Willis’ top prosecutors, being removed from the team.
In the ruling, Judge Scott McAfee emphasized the need to address the “appearance of conflict” from a romantic relationship between Willis and Wade. Although Trump and his allies claimed that the romantic relationship between Willis and Wade constituted an “actual” conflict of interest that warranted the removal of the entire prosecution team, McAfee ruled that there was no evidence that established the Da’s receipt of a material financial benefit.

Fani Willis, the Fulton County, Ga district attorney who brought criminal charges against Donald Trump and a host of other defendants over their efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, can remain on the case, a judge ruled today.
But Judge Scott McAfee wrote in his decision that the special prosecutor with whom Willis had a romantic relationship, Nathan Wade, should step aside.
Although McAfee concluded that there was not sufficient evidence to show that Willis and Wade’s relationship created a conflict of interest, he wrote that the “District Attorney’s prosecution is encumbered by an appearance of impropriety.”
“The Court therefore concludes that the prosecution of this case cannot proceed until the State selects one of two options,” McAfee wrote. “The District Attorney may choose to step aside, along with the whole of her office, and refer the prosecution to the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council for reassignment. … Alternatively,...

When Joe Biden and Donald Trump clinched their party nominations this week, it marked the end of primary season and the start of the general election campaign.
From now until November 5, the campaigns of the current president and the former president will blitz battleground states with visits from the candidates and their surrogates and flood the airwaves with the latest ads.
The past few days have been a bit of a preview of what to expect.
When Biden told MSNBC over the weekend that he regrets using the term “illegal” in the State of the Union address, Trump posted a meme alleging that his successor “apologizes” to Laken Riley’s killer.
When Trump gave an interview on CNBC, Biden seized on his comments about cutting Social Security and Medicare.

A Georgia judge has tossed out six of the counts in the election interference case facing Donald Trump and other defendants.
Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee dismissed criminal charges including solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer. Trump was charged in three of the counts, tied to his efforts to convince Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” 11,780 votes in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. Their conversation was captured in a recorded phone call. Trump still faces 10 counts.
McAfee wrote that the six counts dismissed “contain all the essential elements of the crimes but fail to allege sufficient detail regarding the nature of the commission, i.e. the underlying felony solicited.”
“They do not give the Defendants enough information to prepare their defenses intelligently, as the Defendants could have violated the Constitutions and thus the statute in dozens, if not hundreds, of distinct ways,” he wrote.

Georgia Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee on Wednesday tossed six charges against the former president and some of his co-defendants, but let the bulk of the criminal racketeering charges stand. McAfee wrote that the prosecution did not provide sufficient rationale for bringing the now-dismissed charges, which pertained to the push to get Georgia officials to delegitimize President Biden’s win in the state — including Trump’s now-infamous...

Cable news networks went all in on a Georgia proceeding today over whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified from the Donald Trump election interference case because she had a romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
The wall-to-wall coverage saw Willis and Wade questioned on deeply personal details of their relationship, which attorneys for Trump and other defendants say is a conflict of interest.
Willis took the stand in the afternoon, and was defiant as she was questioned by attorney Ashleigh Merchant, who sought her financial records and other information about her relationship with Wade. Merchant is representing one of the co-defendants in the case.

Updated: Donald Trump’s criminal trial in New York will proceed on March 25, after a judge rejected the former president’s efforts to dismiss the case.
Trump is facing charges including falsification of business records tied to the hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in advance of the 2016 election. At a pre-trial hearing, Judge Juan Merchan said that the case would proceed to jury selection on the March date.
Trump was in the courtroom today as the judge issued his ruling. He has pleaded not guilty and accuses Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of political motivations for indicting him last year. In October, former Trump lawyers Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro both agreed to write apology letters after their guilty pleas in the Fulton County, Georgia, election fraud case, which indicted 19 people for trying to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results.
Their letters, which were acquired by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution via an open records request, were each one sentence long, seeming to mock prosecutors.
“I apologize for my actions in connection with the events in Coffee County,” Powell said in her letter written on October 19.
“I apologize to the citizens of the State of Georgia and of Fulton County for my involvement in Count 15 of the indictment,” Chesebro declared in his apology letter written on October 20.
The letters do not address the legitimacy of President Joe Biden winning Georgia’s 2020 election or condemn the unfounded conspiracy theories they promoted to claim that Trump had been fraudulently cheated out of victory.

Georgia prosecutors have added former Vice President Mike Pence to the list of witnesses who could be called to testify in Donald Trump’s upcoming election interference Rico trial, according to a report from CNN.

While Pence was compelled by Special Counsel Jack Smith to testify before a grand jury in the Justice Department’s federal election interference case against Trump, the former vice president has so far skirted significant involvement in the Fulton County case.

The next morning his son, Don Jr., floated installing an acting attorney general who wants to unleash a “reign of terror” against those responsible for Trump’s indictments, as well as a pro-white nationalist press secretary.
“What they’ve done is they’ve released the genie out of the box,” Trump told Univion’s Enrique Acevedo of...

Rudy Giuliani is bleeding cash, losing attorneys, racking up lawsuits against him, facing criminal charges, and alienating longtime friends and Republican Party stalwarts. And yet, as his life comes apart around him, Giuliani is still promising to go down with the Donald Trump-sized ship, sources familiar with the matter tell Rolling Stone.
The former top Trump lawyer bragged to associates in recent months that he’d never “break” or betray Trump, even as his own legal problem exploded and indictments were handed down, two sources with knowledge of these comments tell Rolling Stone.

The most notable instance to date of “rap on trial” is finally about to get underway in Atlanta. After a jury selection process whose length broke state records, the Ysl Rico trial is set to begin on Nov. 27. Judge Ural Glanville, Fulton County prosecutors, and defense attorneys vetted more than 600 people to determine the best set of jurors for the high-profile case. Multi-platinum rapper Young Thug, a.k.a. Jeffery Williams, is the most well-known defendant standing trial. He’s facing eight counts in the 65-count indictment, with prosecutors alleging...

Throughout the criminal investigations of Donald Trump, the former president has expected his co-defendants, alleged co-conspirators, and potential witnesses for the prosecution to stay fiercely loyal to him. This has included — according to people who’ve discussed the matter with him — his belief that some of his former lieutenants should risk jail time rather than turn on him.
As he’s faced an array of criminal charges, Trump’s demands for aides and lawyers to martyr themselves for him hasn’t saved him. If anything, it’s done the opposite,...

Since the summer, Donald Trump’s legal teams have been wracked by one abiding fear: betrayal.
On one front, the former president’s inner circle has fretted about how many co-defendants in the Fulton County criminal case — or co-conspirators in the special counsel probes — might turn against him, accept a plea deal, and cooperate with the prosecutors. But lingering beneath the fear of disloyalty lies another, darker fear about whether anyone anyone still working in, or close to, Trump’s inner orbit could already secretly be working with prosecutors.

To Donald Trump, the truth is whatever he decides it is. In the wake of Sidney Powell’s plea deal and despite claiming that she had joined his legal team in 2020, the former president is now alleging she was “never” his attorney.

Sidney Powell was the wildest of Maga diehards — someone who swore long past the bitter end that Donald Trump won by a landslide in 2020, and insinuated that a long-dead Venezuelan dictator helped hatch a plot that flipped votes away from her guy. That’s why the former president and much of his inner circle didn’t think the conspiracy-addled lawyer would ever cooperate with prosecutors seeking to convict the ex-president. “Crazy as she was, she really believed what she was pushing,” a lawyer close to the former president says.

Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in Georgia, where he and 18 others allegedly orchestrated a scheme to overturn the 2020 election results in the state.
The former president entered a not guilty plea in a court filing on Thursday in which he also waived his right to an arraignment, where the charges against him would be read in open court.
With a large motorcade, Trump last week trekked to Fulton County, Ga, to be arrested, booked and then released. The spectacle drew coverage across the news and broadcast networks, and culminated in the release of his booking photo, a first for a former president.
Other defendants in the case also have waived their arraignments.

Rudy Giuliani has been found liable for defaming two Georgia election workers he claimed were part of a conspiracy to rig the 2020 presidential election.
U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell also ordered that a trial be held on proposed damages to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, the election workers that the former New York mayor had accused of manipulating votes.
The judgment came in response to the plaintiffs’ motion for sanctions against Giuliani for failing to comply with his discovery obligations in the case. Giuliani was a key figure in advancing then-President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.
In her opinion, Howell noted that Giuliani had turned over “a single page of communications, blobs of indecipherable data, a sliver of the financial documents required to be produced, and a declaration and two stipulations from Giuliani, who indicates in the latter stipulations his preference...

Donald Trump’s accounting staff have been hot off the mark, recreating his mugshot picture on a collection of T-shirts and mugs to raise money for his re-election campaign.
“Breaking news: the mugshot is here” reads the subject line of the campaign’s latest fundraising email, which advertises a new T-shirt featuring the image.
Donald Trump Jr advertised T-shirts and posters featuring the mugshot on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, writing that “all profits” from sales would go towards his father’s defence fund.
Days after he made history, becoming the first former US president to be photographed for a police mugshot, The Times of London reports that Trump followed his fourth criminal arrest of the year with an email appeal for cash. He said: This mugshot will forever go down in history as a symbol of America’s defiance of tyranny.”

A bit of Pilates sure brings out the Dark Brandon in Joe Biden.
After hitting the PeloDog studio in Lake Tahoe today, a vacationing Potus took some shots at his indicted predecessor Donald Trump, the ex-Celebrity Apprentice host’s mugshot and his online sit-down with Tucker Carlson earlier this week. With a smile on his face and boos from locals as he walked over to the cameras, President Biden certainly seemed to be in a pugilistic mood Friday.

Trump was arrested and booked on charges related to his alleged attempts to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
The mug shot — which was a trending topic on Twitter (X) in the hours leading up to its release — marks a historic moment, as it is the first-ever mug shot taken of a former U.S. president.
Trump was processed at the Fulton County jail on Thursday, where he was booked and later released approximately 30 minutes later, after putting up a $200,000 bond.

It’s unclear at this point when exactly Trump’s arraignment hearing will be held. District Attorney Fani Willis has suggested that Trump and 18 others involved in the alleged election tampering could be arraigned together during the first week of September.

Donald Trump turned himself in to authorities in Fulton County, Ga on Thursday, with a process that diverged from his previous indictment because it included his mugshot.
The booking photo, released by the Fulton County Sheriff, spread quickly on social media, as did those in others charged in the indictment. Trump and 18 others are charged in an alleged scheme to reverse the 2020 election results in Georgia, a state that went for Joe Biden.
According to jail records, Trump was arrested and booked as inmate No. P01135909. He was listed as 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds.
The former president seemed to have come prepared to pose for the photo, as he is staring at the camera to project a look of toughness and defiance, as he has told his supporters, “I am your retribution.” The shot also is a bit reminiscent to some publicity poses for The Apprentice.
