- Idir was born on October 25, 1949 in Ait Lahcene, Algeria. He was a composer and actor, known for Chants d'Automne (1983), Machaho (1995) and Ali au pays des mirages (1980). He died on May 2, 2020 in Paris, France.
- Algerian singer-composer of Berber origin, he also sang in Tamazight, the Berber language.
- He grew up surrounded by the music of the Kabyle people. He planned to become a geologist until a chance appearance on state radio in 1973 -- he filled in at the last minute for another singer, and his performance of the lullaby "A Vava Inouva" was widely praised.
