When Lindsey Vonn was 9, she met Olympic ski racer Picabo Street at an autograph signing in a little ski shop in Minneapolis. “It was like meeting a super hero in real life,” the champion skier tells People.
“Those two minutes changed my perspective and made me want to be an Olympian. I think little things can make a big impact and help change a life.”
Now Vonn, 32, who went on to win Olympic gold and more World Cup titles than any skier in history, is doing the same for girls she mentors through her namesake foundation, which launched last year.

Michelle Kwan is heading back to the Olympics, though this time in a different capacity.
The two-time Olympic medalist figure skater has been hired by Fox Sports to cover the Winter Olympics in Sochi as the company continue the ramp up to the launch of its cable sports channel, Fox Sports 1, on August 17.
Kwan tells the Associated Press that she has been encouraged by Fox to report on sports outside the Olympics and she's hoping to be involved in their Super Bowl coverage just before the Winter Games.
"When they asked, they were really encouraging to me to try it out," Kwan says. "They said, 'We are going to be innovative and fun and open to different angles,' which really attracted me. Reporting and story-telling is what they want, so for me it will be interesting to kind of let the public know about the stories of athletes, or their perspectives on the Olympics.

It’s not often that a factoid contained in a press release really jumps out and grabs you, but a note on Bobby Sheehan‘s upcoming documentary Doctored is certainly worthy of a major double-take. Did you know that, although the U.S. makes up only 5% of the world’s population, we consume over 50% of all the world’s pharmaceutical drugs? Whoa, right? It’s that incredibly fact that’s at the heart of Sheehan’s compelling and often surprising film. Doctored centers on the chiropractic profession, “labeled as quacks and cultists,” and the long struggle chiropractors have faced at the hands of businesses and organizations like the Ama. The film illuminates “historical events such as the Wilk vs. American Medical Association case in which the Ama was found guilty of an illegal conspiracy to ‘contain and eliminate’ the chiropractic profession.” Talk about doctored. The film includes interviews with surgeons, MD...

Going into Monday's two-part finale for "Stars Earn Stripes" (Mon., 9 p.m. Et on NBC), there were two men and two women left out of the eight that started in the military reality competition series. By the end of the night, only one would remain standing, and it was someone who was familiar with holding championship titles.
Todd Palin was knocked out in the first hour, leaving Dean Cain to battle two female competitors for the top prize: gold medal winner Picabo Street and two-time WWE Divas Champion Eva Torres. Perhaps it was their experience with competition and victory, but Cain fell to both women.
In the end, it was Torres who won the top prize for the Uso; her charity of choice. For winning, she eared an additional $100,000 for the charity, in addition to her earnings throughout the competition.
Ratings dipped to just above 3 million viewers for last week's penultimate installment.

On Sunday, hours after the Summer Olympics officially came to a close in London, NBC aired their pre-ceremony montage of the Games’ medal-winning moments. Michael Phelps’ final race. The Fierce Five. Misty and Kerri’s volleyball three-peat. The women’s soccer team. Triumphs that brought Americans together, albeit briefly, to cheer and chant “U.S.A! USA! USA!” as champions proudly draped themselves in the stars and stripes. It was a moving sight to see athletes achieving their dream and basking in the patriotic power of the national anthem.
Then the Games were over and the Olympic torch was extinguished. On Twitter, where NBC has taken its lumps these past two weeks, New Yorker writer Andy Borowitz quipped, “The goal of the Olympics is to inspire us about what humans can achieve, and the goal of the closing ceremony is to return us to reality.” The past 16 days may have...

New York — Nine Nobel Peace Prize winners are speaking out against a new NBC competition series they say treats military maneuvers like athletic events.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the other Nobel laureates protested in an open letter that the show, "Stars Earn Stripes," glorifies war and armed violence.
The series, which premiered on Monday night, pairs celebrities with inactive U.S. military personnel for simulated military challenges. Celebrity participants include boxing champion Laila Ali, Superman actor Dean Cain, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd Palin.

Here in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the sky is overcast but the mood around town is extremely festive. I haven't seen much of Vancouver yet, but I'm looking forward to it in the days to come. I grew up running track in the Bay Area and it was always a dream to either compete in or at least attend the Olympics, so needless to say I'm excited.
I have to say that I was thrilled to interview two Olympic legends in Dan Jansen and Picabo Street. Both are being featured on a tribute mural dedicated to Olympic Hall of Famers spearheaded by AllState. The art work, done in colored chalk, captures various moments in time during their glorious careers.
Dan spoke of finally winning the gold medal and dedicating it to his deceased sister (but added that not even that compares to having his first child). Picabo spoke on...

Not even a blizzard could stop us. Early Thursday morning, after five hours spent watching the snowbanks build on the runway of JFK airport (and six more spent banging around the turbulence-filled night), MTV News finally landed in Vancouver, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. And though we were all tired, we hit the ground running. After all, this is the biggest stage in the entire world, and it was our time to shine.
Okay, so actually we checked in to our apartment (no hotels left in town) and crashed out for about six hours. But then he got down to business, spending the day with three U.S. athletes (skeleton racers Katie Uhlaender and Noelle Pikus-Pace and bobsledder and U.S. National Guard Sergeant Mike Kohn), interviewing legends like Picabo Street and Dan Jansen and getting a tour of the official Team USA Shop (given by none other than Ralph Lauren...

Picabo Street, the Olympic champion who won Americans over with her sunny smile and phenomenal skill on the slopes, is now a 38-year-old wife and mom, chasing after three boys when she's not taking care of her horses.
Ronda Kaysen: A three-time Olympian with a gold and silver medal under her belt, Street was the first American to win a World Cup season title in a speed event, and was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2005. When she and Alabama businessman John Reeser married in 2008, they each brought a son to the marriage. This summer, the couple welcomed another baby into the family -- Dax, who's now 5 months old.
Momlogic caught up with the ski champ-turned-mom at her home in Birmingham, Alabama, as she gears up for another Olympic season, this time reporting for the "Today" show from the sidelines.

We recently talked with Picabo, 38, about life with sons Eli, 6 ½, Treyjan James, 5 ½, and Dax Meyer, 5 months, whether she’d like to see the boys pursue sports careers, and why she’s decided to undergo the permanent birth control procedure Essure, which consists of the insertion of small flexible micro-inserts through the body’s natural pathways and into the fallopian tubes,...
