John Inglis was born in Bristol, England in 1946. He is known for his work on Superman the Movie (1978) and Superman II (1980). He started in the film business in 1962 and worked for many years, both for ITV companies and the BBC. He is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and Honorary Member of the British Kinematograph Society.
In 1966 he was one of the camera crew who covered the Aberfan Disaster in Wales for USA networks ABC and CBS.
He spent many years working on television commercials in London, first as a film editor working with many well known movie directors and later as a director himself.
He designed the Silicon Screen CGI graphics system for movies at Shepperton for Interimage Ltd, believed to have been the first computer graphics system developed specifically for movies.
He directed the Panorama of the Thames project, a photographic record of the river banks through London. He also published a book of that name with a digital restoration of an 1829 panorama of the Georgian Thames (Thames and Hudson).
