Samuel W. Asbury
Sam Asbury, a native of San Jose, California, is best known for his roll in an episode of 90-Day Fiance in 2016. Sam graduated from high school as class Salutatorian in 1983. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1988 with High Scholarship and Honors Program (double major in Political Science and Naval Science). He was then commissioned as a U.S. Navy Officer and served aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm.
In 1992, Sam transferred to the Navy Reserve and started law school. Three years later he was awarded a Juris Doctor with honors after serving on the law review. He then started his own immigration law practice in 1996. He mentors attorneys nationwide, and he has helped thousands of immigrants through his tireless legal work and advocacy.
Before retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2016 and while simultaneously running his law firm, Sam participated extensively in overseas exercises and operations. Sam's Navy unit was recalled to active duty and deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-04. He was mobilized a second time in 2012 and was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
Between mobilizations, Commander Asbury was board-selected for and served as Commanding Officer of a commissioned hardware unit from January 2007 until that unit's disestablishment one year later. Then, in a command-at-sea billet, he stood-up a new commissioned hardware unit with approximately 80 personnel and $30 million worth of communications equipment deployable worldwide. Sam was then promoted to Captain, as confirmed by the U.S. Congress.* Sam was also hand-picked to serve in numerous staff billets for U.S. Central Command, U.S. Pacific Command, Pacific Fleet headquarters, Seventh Fleet headquarters, Fifth Fleet headquarters, and as an analyst for a NATO military commanders' conference in Istanbul.
Sam continues to advocate for his immigration clients while looking for appropriate acting roles.
