The moment Chuck Lorre fans have been waiting for is finally here! A trailer for The Big Bang Theory creator’s new Max series reunites Lorre with Two and a Half Men actor Charlie Sheen for a comedy series starring stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco and Queen Sugar alum Omar J. Dorsey. The Bookie trailer mixes comedy and action as Danny (Maniscalco), a Los Angeles bookie who struggles to keep his business in check, and Ray (Dorsey), a former NFL player and Danny’s enforcer, attempt to collect a series of bets from increasingly shady characters.
Bookie revolves around a seasoned bookie (Maniscalco) struggling to survive the impending legalization of sports gambling. Hello Sports Interaction, Fan Duel, and Betway! While coping with apps designed to make intermediaries extinct, the bookie encounters unstable clients, family, co-workers, and a crumbling lifestyle while living in Los Angeles. Jorge Garcia, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito, and Maxim Swinton also star.

Horror fantasy fiction can be considered campy because, after a point, one does indulge more in the production, the hammy acting, and the weird direction of the film rather than the story. Most of the time, these films have a predictable story that ends the same way. There are not many layers or complexities that can be explored when it comes to this genre unless there is a genuine amount of time invested in developing a good story and screenplay. Spirited or Jagat Arwah, the Indonesian name of the film, is all about a young boy discovering the history of his family and ever since then, he has been pushing himself to pursue the legacy that has been left behind by his father. Will the boy abandon his family’s legacy or fulfill the path that has been chosen only for him? Released on September 29, 2022, and directed by Ruben Adrian,...

The Oscar Best Original Song nominees list is packed with a powerhouse roster of talent, including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, David Byrne. That sets up a collision of current musical giants come Oscar night. Of course, there’s Diane Warren, the recipient of an Honorary Oscar last month and a musical giant in her own right. She’s garnered a 14th nomination in the category with “Applause,” from the little-seen doc Tell It Like a Woman.
Not on the list is Taylor Swift, whose “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing was on the shortlist of 15 films in contention to be nominated.
While she is a seven-time Grammy winner, Rihanna’s nomination today is her first Oscar nod.
This morning’s list of Original Song nominees not only broadens the relevance to the Academy’s nominations, it adds star power.

The rivalry/bromance between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds goes back years, but now Jackman is doing his best to make sure Reynolds’ latest, Spirited, gets snubbed at the Academy Awards.
Jackman posted an Instagram reel that began, “Hey, everybody, it’s 2023 and I really really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible.” Then, Jackman gets to the real message: a plot against Reynolds:

After citing his love for last year’s holiday musical comedy Spirited, particularly the music and cast members Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer, Jackman pleaded for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to not nominate it for Best Original Song, lest Reynolds get his time on the grandest stage in the industry. “I’ve just heard the Academy...

Hugh Jackman is unable to face the prospect of an Oscar-nominated Ryan Reynolds.
Jackman gave the latest instalment in the pair’s long-running joke feud on Wednesday (4 January) with a video plea begging the Academy Awards not to nominate Reynolds for his song “Good Afternoon” taken from his 2022 Christmas movie, Spirited.
The Academy recently included “Good Afternoon” on its shortlist of 15 original songs eligible for nominations for the Oscars’ Best Music (Original Song) award ahead of this year’s March ceremony.
Jackman kicked off the piece, saying: “Hey everybody, it’s 2023 and I really really wanted to send out a positive message at the beginning of the year, but recent events have made that impossible.
“Don’t get me wrong, I loved Spirited. It’s a great movie... I love Will [Ferrell], I love Octavia [Spencer] ... the song ‘Good Afternoon’, I laughed the entire way through, it is absolutely brilliant,” he continued.

Hugh Jackman, staring down the abyss of a potentially harrowing year filming Deadpool 3, beseeched the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to not give his costar Ryan Reynolds a Best Original Song nomination for the Spirited track “Good Afternoon.”
At the tail end of last year, “Good Afternoon” — from Reynold’s recent Christmas flick with Will Ferrell and Octavia Butler — appeared on the Academy’s shortlist for this year’s Best Original Song prize (the actual nominations won’t be announced until Jan. 24). The news, however, only just seemed to reach Jackman,...

There’s a tension between sincerity and smarm that often makes it difficult to take Ryan Reynolds seriously. The actor has charisma to spare and is better than almost anyone with a snarky quip; he’s so good at it, that even when he attempts to go earnest, it’s easy to anticipate a joke coming to undercut it. In some movies, that’s a detriment; in Spirited, a new take on the Scrooge story, it’s a benefit.
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is, at its core, not so much about a grumpy man turning jolly as it is about a self-absorbed narcissist realizing that other people matter. It’s a story retold every few years, and it’s a testament to its staying power that neither Muppets, Mickey Mouse nor Bill Murray can fully dull its impact. No matter how many twists are put on the familiar tale,...

Christmas films can be divisive things. For every person who needs to choke back a sob over Zuzu’s petals in order to feel truly festive, there is another for whom only an 8 week binge of Channel 5’s kindly cupcake cafe owners and selfish businesswomen meeting the interchangeable men of their dreams will suffice.
Yet once in a while a filmmaker crafts a beautiful sparkly bridge that unites the factions and has the chutzpah and baubles to fill even the hardest heart with holiday cheer. One to break out after boardgame controversies and tearful post-sherry fallouts. This Christmas season that audacious movie is Spirited.
Ebenezer (Will Ferrell) has it good. Once the scourge of the poor and vulnerable, Scrooge lived his final days with kindness and generosity and he knew how to keep Christmas well… Which is handy because in his afterlife Scrooge has reunited with Marley and become the Ghost of Christmas Present!

Horror movies about ‘influencers’ seem to be getting made more and more. If you are unsure what an influencer is exactly then a quick Google search will show you – ‘To put it simply, an influencer is any person who influences the behaviour of others. In a marketing context, influencers are individuals who collaborate with brands to promote products or services to their audience.’ Perhaps unsurprisingly, influencers in most films I have seen, come across as generally unlikeable. And that’s pretty much the case with Mean Spirited.
In the movie, a struggling YouTuber spends a few days with friends in the middle of nowhere in the hope of proven that his former friend (now a moderately famous actor) is an awful person who left him high and dry.

Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell’s upcoming holiday film Spirited — a musical retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol — will open in theaters on Nov. 11 before making its global debut on Apple TV+ Nov. 18 ahead of Thanksgiving.
Apple Original Films announced its release plans for the high-profile movie on Friday. It’s not yet clear how many cinemas Spirited will play in, since many exhibitors aren’t keen to carry a film that’s hitting the home so quickly now that the box office is recovering from the pandemic.
For its part — much like its rivals — Apple Original Films’ main focus is making compelling content for its streaming service, versus waging a full-fledged theatrical run that requires a major marketing spend.
Streamers generally don’t report theatrical grosses. A traditional Hollywood event pic will open in 3,000 to 4,000 screens, while an event title from...
