Seems that after two and a half years, my time as the editor of MTV Multiplayer has come to a close. It has been a privilege to attempt to give you some insight into the world of video games and technology. Whether you came to the blog every day, every week, or just whenever it popped up on Twitter, I hope you enjoyed your time here. I certainly have.
There have been several regular contributors throughout my time here at Multiplayer, and they have my utmost admiration. These are gentleman who deserve considerably more than a mention in a farewell blog post but, for now, this will have to do: Jason Cipriano, Matt Clark, Brian Warmoth, Brad Nicholson, Nick Akerman, and Adam Rosenberg.
I'd also like to thank Stephen Totilo, Tracey John and Patrick Klepek for building such an incredible audience. It was a true honor and a monumental task to fill those shoes.

Los Angeles, CA – May 19, 2011 . MGM announced today that Vin Diesel will star in and also produce through his One Race Films, the action-comedy The Machine, based on an original script by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Night At The Museum, Night At The Museum: Battle For The Smithsonian, The Pacifier), who are also producing. Production is scheduled to start in the fall.
Vin Diesel stars as a human-like machine created in secrecy by the Pentagon as the world’s first true ultimate weapon. Twenty years after the project was buried and decommissioned for reasons unknown, The Machine is discovered by a kid who befriends him. When the government learns it has been reactivated, the Machine must protect the family harboring him.

Movie tie-in connects hit bird-slingshotting game to upcoming animated film starring voice of Jesse Eisenberg.

Fox aired a 30-second spot for its forthcoming animated family comedy "Rio" during the fourth quarter of a tense showdown between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl Xlv. In an advertising first, the trailer contained an embedded code for an unlockable level in the top-selling Apple App Store game "Angry Birds."
The level connects to a larger contest that offers participants the opportunity to win a trip to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for the film's March 22 premiere. Also out in March is "Angry Birds Rio," a movie tie-in that brings developer Rovio Mobile's hit bird-slingshotting game to the characters and locales of the Fox film.
"Rio" is the work of "Ice Age" director Carlos Saldanha and "Big Momma's House" writer Don Rhymer.

The debut trailer for "Captain America: The First Avenger" made its bow tonight with only minutes remaining in the second quarter of Super Bowl Xlv. The highly anticipated first look at the Joe Johnston-directed Marvel Comics adaptation did not fail to deliver, with glimpses of Hugo Weaving's Red Skull and Cap's transformation from puny weakling to genetically enhanced super-soldier.
The 32-second trailer opens with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) stepping into the machine that infuses his body with the serum responsible for giving him superhuman strength and reflexes. "How do you feel," Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter — Cap's World War II love interest — asks Rogers as he steps out of the oversize metal coffin. "Taller," Evans quips.

The game is afoot. Again. The 2009 blockbuster Sherlock Holmes took a much-loved literary hero… and surrounded him with explosions and adrenaline-fueled action. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be returning to their roles of legendary sleuth & sidekick for the 2011 sequel, Sherlock Holmes 2, in which they face off against Holmes nemesis Moriarty. Who, if the last movie’s tone is any indication, will come armed with a hip-mounted gatling gun and kung fu grip. The master criminal was nowhere in sight during Entertainment Tonight’s recent set visit. But that’s okay, because you get Downey Jr. dressed up a like a woman and bickering with director Guy Ritchie instead. --Adam Rosenberg

Yippee ki-yay, Timecop! Last year’s entirely success dudefest The Expendables marked a few occasions, most notably the first-ever on screen appearance of Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in one film. For his already announced sequel, Stallone is trying to get the band back together, and Willis says he’s on board. Don’t expect any word on Schwarzenegger until he’s more settled into his post-politics life, but action fans can take heart in reports that Timecop star Jean-Claude Van Damme is in talks to join the Expendables sequel. Now go watch Timecop so you can revel in its absurdity. --Adam Rosenberg

Roped in by the Lasso of Truth. Veteran producer David E. Kelley took some blows last week after all of the networks turned down his pitch for a Wonder Woman TV series. Rather than taking the hint, Kelley put on his most optimistic smile and stated publicly that he’s hopeful “we’ll see it next year” on NBC, which numbers among the networks that already passed on the idea. Kelley wants to explore the heroine as a “real complex woman and not just a superhero,” which makes perfect sense for an Amazonian princess armed with indestructible bracers, a magical lasso and an invisible airplane…? --Adam Rosenberg

He hasn’t read the (unfinished) script yet. What, you don’t want to commit to something without knowing what it is first? Michael Bay would do it! Ladies of the Knight. Casting is officially underway for The Dark Knight Rises, which is supposedly Chris Nolan’s final Batman film. There are reportedly two big female roles, a villain and a love interest, and a shortlist of names for the parts has emerged: Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley, Gemma Arterton and possibly Naomi Watts. Maggie Gyllenhaal was all right in the last movie, but anyone is a step up from what Katie Holmes did in Batman Begins. --Adam Rosenberg

Respect the Trashmaster. With all of the tools for generating user-created content afforded to the modern-day gamer, machinima – the art of crafting unrelated video content out of in-game assets – is becoming quite a big deal. Enter GTA IV: The Trashmaster, filmmaker Mathieu Weschler’s 90-minute thriller. It’s a pretty standard revenge tale, but Weschler leans on his background in film to weave a compelling tale. And hey, at least it’s better than The Town. --Adam Rosenberg

Someone’s smoking too much pipe-weed…. The Hobbit is finally greenlit, there’s a director in place – and it’s Peter Jackson – so everyone’s happy now, right? Wrong. Consider the boat rocked. Jackson is mucking about with the story, and he may be adding scenes bookending the film for Elijah Wood to appear in as Frodo. First we lost Tom Bombadil and The Scouring of the Shire in the Rings trilogy. Now this? Jackson has earned a lot of goodwill for his great work on The Lord of the Rings, but he definitely spent some of it today. --Adam Rosenberg

First And Bleh There’s a long history in Hollywood of taking a video game license and turning it into a steaming pile of manure that isn’t even fit for use as fertilizer. Don’t worry though. This isn’t a video game adaptation. Rather, it’s going to be a feature-length film about a superstition related to a video game franchise. A documentary could be cool, but it sounds like the plan here is for a fictional tale. Which is exponentially more idiotic than adapting an in-game story. -- Adam Rosenberg

It’s Only A Movie – Isn’t It? Are you spelling out a yes…or a no? In Hollywood’s long history of turning dumb ideas into a reality, the concept of a movie based on the Parker Brothers séance-in-a-box Ouija board ranks right down there with Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li and any movie made by Uwe Boll. It’s happening though, and writers Adam Horowitz and Eddie Kitsis (Tron: Legacy) confirmed in an interview that multiple directors are actually competing for this thing, namely McG (Terminator: Salvation) and Breck Eisner (The Crazies). Just remember, fans: When somebody wins the right to direct Ouija: The Movie, we all L-o-s-e. -- Adam Rosenberg

Arrrrrrrrrrrrr(gh)! After nearly sinking the franchise with At World’s End, Disney is trying to lure moviegoers back for more high seas adventure with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The movie (rightly) attempts to correct past wrongs by tossing Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley over and bringing Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz on board, while Johnny Depp isn't going anywhere except off some very high places--as you can see in this new trailer. -- Adam Rosenberg

Party of Five A newcomer will be joining the Bradley Cooper/Ed Helms/Zach Galifianakis/Justin Bartha foursome in Todd Phillips’s upcoming sequel The Hangover: Part II: Mason Lee, the son of Ang Lee, making his feature debut. As long as the kid isn’t taking lessons from his dad’s Hulk we should be fine. He’ll play an Nyu drama major and future brother-in-law of Helms’s character; as the youngest of the group, he’ll probably also be responsible for most of the movie’s projectile vomiting. -- Adam Rosenberg

If you're reading this, you're probably fiending for work/school to wrap up so you can head home and play more "Call of Duty: Black Ops." Well, next time you play, I wanted to call your attention to two changes that were made since the release of "Modern Warfare 2" that were minor and yet impacted the game big time. Adam Rosenberg discussed the vast majority of these changes in his review of "Black Ops", but in the interest of brevity, we can't always include every little detail in a review and I wanted to pull these out specifically.
#1 - The Return of Party Chat
This really only applies to folks playing on the Xbox 360, but since that's usually the most popular platform for "Call of Duty" games, this will affect a bunch of you.
"Modern Warfare 2" effectively banned the use of party chat in the majority of the game's multiplayer modes.

According MTV Movie Blog, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have confirmed that Bill & Ted 3 is in development.
Reeves said to MTV at the Toronto Intl. Film Festival that another Bill and Ted film is in the works and his partner backed it up:
“We kicked around the idea over the years and had always thought if we could make something that was as kind of genuine in spirit as the originals and without falling prey to kind of retro cynicism or something that was unnecessary, it would be worth doing,” Winter told MTV’s Adam Rosenberg in an interview arranged, amusingly, via Twitter. “Now the cat’s out of the bag, and the truth is that, yeah, we have finally hit upon an idea that we think is pretty great.”
“We’ve been working on it for the past couple of years, honing that idea and getting it into shape,...

When we spoke with Keanu Reeves at the Toronto International Film Festival last week, we learned a couple of things: one, Reeves does a killer Werner Herzog impression, and two, there's another "Bill & Ted" movie in the works!
Lest you think that Reeves was pulling our leg, we turned to the other half of the righteous duo, Alex Winter, for further confirmation. According to the actor and director, "Bill & Ted 3" is absolutely in development.

It's not often that we in the geek community can marry our love for all things science fiction with a more conventional pastime like, say, sports. But if you're in or around the San Diego area on Friday, September 24, you'll have the opportunity to knock such a merged experience out of the park.
Next Friday, Lucas Films and the San Diego Padres are teaming together for a special "Star Wars" event in Petco Park billed as "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" Night. While the Padres put their skills to the test against the Cincinnati Reds, attendees sitting in a select portion of the stadium's Upper Reserved section can enjoy a night of baseball while simultaneously participating in "Star Wars" trivia, special giveaways and photo opportunities, not to mention cosplay.
Beyond the game's festivities, fans also have an opportunity to purchase a ticket package allowing them to sleep overnight on the Petco Park playing field,...

M. Night Shyamalan returns to his horror roots with today's release of "Devil," the first film in The Night Chronicles. In "Devil," five strangers find themselves trapped inside of an elevator, with the human personification of the devil secretly posing as one of the members of the group. It's not quite as scary as Shyamalan and Josh Horowitz's "Escalation," but it's pretty darn close.
While "Devil" certainly takes elevator horror to creative new heights, it's not the first film to emerge with some truly iconic elevator scenes. After the jump, check out some of the most memorable elevator scenes in cinema history!
"Aliens," "Terminator 2" & "True Lies"
Is it cheating to lump three classic James Cameron films together? If so, blame it on Cameron, who clearly has a thing for iconic elevator scenes. In "Aliens," Ripley and Newt scramble to get their elevator to the top of the processing station before...

'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' star will play a physics teacher moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter.
By Adam Rosenberg

Mall cop Paul Blart, better known as Kevin James, is trading in his security uniform for boxing trunks. The actor is all set to go another round with Sony — after "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," "Grown-Ups" and 2011's "The Zookeeper" — for a mixed martial arts movie.
James will star in the as-yet-untitled feature as a physics teacher who decides to moonlight as a mixed martial arts fighter when the school he works for faces budget cuts, Deadline reports. Whatever his initial intentions are, the main character proves talented enough to land a gig as a fighter in the Ufc.
Sony is reportedly fast-tracking the film to shoot next year, presumably for a 2012 release. James will also produce with Todd Garner ("Blart" and "Knight and Day...

Robert De Niro is re-teaming with "Goodfellas" and "Casino" director Martin Scorsese for a project that is equal parts mob movie and Federico Fellini-inspired dream reality. Called "The Irishman" and based on the book "I Heard You Paint Houses," De Niro told MTV's Josh Horowitz in April that some plans were cooking to perhaps divide the film into two parts. There's been no additional news on that front, but the project is inching closer to reality with today's possible casting news.
Al Pacino and Joe Pesci are reportedly "circling" roles in "The Irishman," according to a Deadline report. Scorsese is currently working on the 3-D film "Hugo Cabret," which stars Chloe Moretz, Jude Law, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley. "Irishman" is one of...

As the top-nominated artist at Sunday night's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, pop sensation Lady Gaga's "little monsters" were tuned in to witness her triumphs — and they weren't disappointed. Gaga took home eight Moonmen, including the evening's top prize for Video of the Year.
Director Francis Lawrence was also honored for his work on "Bad Romance," though even with work for artists like Britney Spears, Will Smith and Aerosmith behind him, he admitted that nothing he's done compares with the fervor generated by the night's top-winning video.
"I've been doing it a long time, but I've never really experienced an explosion with a video like this, where people so eagerly awaited it and it blew up on YouTube instantly," he explained. "For a while,...
