Indian director-producer Karan Johar wrapped up the conference section of the first Cinevesture International Film Festival with a lively conversation that ranged from working with the right people and Bollywood’s shifting gender politics, to letting slip a few new projects from his Dharma Productions slate.
Johar, who’s having a busy year as a producer with Love Storiyaan on Prime Video and Showtime on Disney+ Hotstar, started the session by talking about how he surrounds himself with people “who know all facets of cinema, not just the mainstream” – even if they’ve been outspoken critics of his work in the past.
He used the example of indie maverick Anurag Kashyap, and producer Somen Mishra, now head of content at Dharma and its Ott division Dharmatic Entertainment, who used to slate him on the popular ‘Passion of Cinema’ blog.

One of the most famous classic rock songs of the 1970s is Blue Öyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper.” The song’s morbid imagery led some fans to believe it’s a song about suicide. Despite this, a writer of “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” said it’s about transcendent love.

Buck Dharma is a member of Blue Öyster Cult. He performed vocals on “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and co-wrote the song.
During a 2022 interview with MusicRadar, Dharma explained the meaning of the track. “It’s a love story that transcends the death of one of the partners and then they get back together again in another plain,” he said. “It’s not about suicide, although I can see how people can think that, but that’s not where it’s at.

A snarky Easter Instagram post made it seem as though Vishal Parvani from Family Karma is feuding with Brian Benni.
Parvani shared a group shot, tagged everyone except for Benni, and placed a hatched chicken emoji over Benni’s face in the photo. He captioned the shot, “Happy Easter from my Fave Family members to yours!” Anisha Ramakrishna, who is featured in the photo replied for Parvani to “spill the chai.”
So it appears that even the close-knit group isn’t entirely sure why Parvani took a shot at Benni.
Brian Benni from ‘Family Karma’ called the photo ‘corny’
Also included in the Instagram photo are Amrit Kapai, Bali Chainani, and Rish Karam. The only comment Benni made was the call the post, “Corny.”

Animal welfareFor a person with an animal welfare perspective, seeing the nuances around the new prevention of cruelty to animals rules, breeding, and adoption in the film was very heartening.Priya Chetty-RajagopalRakshit Shetty/FacebookSometimes I wonder where a pet badge, a pet licensing program we had done long back, and a film about a man and a dog all come together. They do in 777 Charlie. Directed by Kiranraj K, it is one of the simplest, most beautiful, and grittiest tales of a love that passeth all understanding, a love that happens despite yourself not because of yourself - that between a person and a dog. And it’s a tale that is not only well-told but well researched. It drills down into the newer woke realities of animal welfare that cover adoption, the casual crime of illegal breeding, and even resultant tragic genetic disease. 777 Charlie is also a tale of falling in love,...

ReviewDespite its shortcomings, ‘777 Charlie’ presents a strong case about the life-changing capabilities of pets, especially dogs, and how their unconditional love has helped many wade through the harshest of times.Shuklaji777 Charlie, the latest pan-India offering from Kannada cinema, is the story of unlikely companions. Throughout the story, writer Kiranraj K (also the director) enunciates this in the form of pairings that are odd and ill-fitted at first but find tender resolutions later. Dharma (Rakshit Shetty), the perennially angry, unpleasant protagonist of this story, is the common feature of most, in fact all, of these pairings and in a strange yet endearing way, the film’s gaze remains on him throughout despite him not being the hero, so to speak. Sure, he lands a few crunchy punches along the way, nests a “manly” workshop in his garage, and climbs the tallest mountains for the sake of love. But he still isn’t your run-of-the-mill hero.
