Many, if not most, of Spain’s Malaga Festival’s main section lineup, from Berlin Golden Bear winner “Alcarrás” to Panorama player “Lullaby,” will screen for buyers during the Spanish Screenings. “Ainarak,”
Directed by Juan San Martín and starring singer-songwriter Anne Etchegoyen, the documentary follows the annual diaspora from 1870 to 1940 of hundreds of women from Navarre and Aragon to Mauléon in the French Pyrenees, where they worked from fall to spring making canvas shoes. First presented at Conecta Fiction in 2021.
“Beach House,”
Hector H. Vicens, co-director of the genre-twisting “The Corpse of Anna Fritz,” which caught some heat at 2016’s SXSW, is back with a reportedly acerbic beach-set young adult comedy which lifts off as a thriller. Carles Torras, director of Malaga winner “Callback,” produces.

‘Doghead’ Director Santi Amodeo World Premieres ‘The Gentiles’ at the Seville European Film Festival
World premiering at the Seville European Film Festival, Santi Amodeo’s latest production “The Gentiles” is a robust reminder of the director’s vibrant and idiosyncratic voice which hasn’t always attracted the notice it merits on the Spanish film scene. After having made cult pieces such as “Astronauts” (2003) and “Doghead” (2006), Amodeo turns again to a portrait of adolescence with “The Gentiles,” this time with a generation of full-on digital natives.
Produced by Grupo Tranquilo and Sacromonte Films, headed by Gervasio Iglesias, the film follows Ana – played by Africa de la Cruz – a teenager who, while struggling with the typical problems of adolescence, is thunderstruck by her charismatic friend Corrales – played by Paula Díaz – who fantasizes with taking her own life.
Amodeo imbues his characters with a spontaneity that you’d expect from a younger filmmaker, someone much closer to the age of its characters. Álex Catalán, a Dp on...

Moyano, Juan Ventura Pecellín, José Manuel Rocha, Manuel Terceño, Amparo Martínez and Darío García García.

The Spanish helmer began filming his sixth feature back in February; the movie tackles how today’s youngsters face reality through social networks. After having kicked off on 22 February, and after five weeks of principal photography on location in Seville, Mairena de Aljarafe and Punta Umbría (Huelva), Santi Amodeo wrapped the shoot for his new feature @Las_Gentiles (lit. "@The_Nice_Girls") a few days ago. It stars first-time actresses África de la Cruz and Paula Díaz, who respectively breathe life into the characters of Ana and Corrales, two 17-year-old girls who pour every aspect of their lives onto social networks, where reality and fantasy often blur and intermingle. The cast is rounded off by Beatriz Cotobal, Olga Navalón, Lola Buero, Teresa Cruz, Rafa Vera and Alva Inger. The actors were chosen through a casting session that saw more than 200 hopefuls take part, because in his own words, the director was looking.
