Winston Cowie grew up in Northland, New Zealand, before embarking on a successful career in environmental policy, film, writing, rugby and adventure that has taken him to over 40 countries. He works as the Marine Policy Manager at the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates where he pursues marine policy and behavioral change through film. Winston has worked on underwater TV series in New Zealand and directed and and presented documentaries in both New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates. His 2018 UAE production - Zayed's Antarctic Lights featured on National Geographic-Abu Dhabi, screened at the World Ocean Summit 2019, and won a World Medal at the New York Festivals Film and TV & Film Awards. His 2021 documentary 'Wild Abu Dhabi: The Turtles of Al Dhafra' screened on National Geographic-Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi TV and Emirates and Etihad flights. He is also the author of two New Zealand history books, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and represented the UAE internationally at rugby.
