The Last of Us is probably the most popular PlayStation franchise next to God of War, but the sequel has had its fair share of criticism. Naughty Dog is one of the bravest developers in the gaming industry today, but the team’s creative decisions are causing massive backlash.
The sequel was well received by critics but not by the fanbase for several reasons, but it seems like there is a shift in tone towards The Last of Us 2 now. The gaming community gave the game the recognition it deserved for the gore system.

It’s not just video games that dominate the digital airwaves on platforms like Twitch — there’s a huge contingent of viewers who yearn for the old days of pen and paper, with tabletop RPGs making a huge splash virtually in the last few years. In fact, once-niche games like Dungeons & Dragons (which turns 50 this year) have taken on new life in the age of livestreaming, and more popular than ever.

The key character from the video games upon which the acclaimed drama is based will join the fray with Pedro Pascal‘s Joel and Bella Ramsey‘s Ellie. Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick) has joined HBO’s breakout hit The Last of Us. She is one three major cast additions for the upcoming second season of the post-apocalyptic drama, based on the video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation. Dever will play the most prominent new Season 2 character, Abby, joining series’ stars Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, and Bella Ramsey, who is Ellie.
When it was revealed that The Last of Us‘ second season will be based on the 2020 The Last of Us Part II, fans’ attention immediately focused on Abby, one of the game’s two playable central characters alongside Ellie.
Dever’s name emerged as the frontrunner for the role soon after the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike in November. She eventually closed a deal with HBO, which is co-producing the series with Sony Pictures Television.

This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us Part II.
The first season of HBO’s The Last of Us has widely been considered a success. From the casting to how the show molds the story itself for a new medium, both newcomers to Joel and Ellie’s journey and longtime fans of the games have found The Last of Us to be a compelling and engaging show. Adapting The Last of Us Part I was certainly no easy feat, but The Last of Us Part II is a different beast entirely.
Not only does the second game have more story and characters to cover, it has also proved to be a lot more controversial than its predecessor – especially when it comes to the playable character Abby. Abby was a new character in The Last of Us Part II, and while she’s introduced fairly early into the game,...

The new version of The Last Of Us Part II for PS5 boasts DualSense support, updated graphics and a new survival mode.
It seems like only yesterday that The Last of Us Part II was released in the dying days of the PS4, but now the game is being reworked for the PS5.
The Last Of Us Part II: Remastered was announced in a post on the PlayStation Blog, although the news would have been of little surprise to people who keenly follow games industry gossip. Rumours of a remaster began swirling back in July after the game’s composer alluded to new editions of the title being in the works in a video interview with Blender, and various other leaks have pointed to a remaster since then.

Season 2 of The Last Of Us may have found one of its central characters, as it’s reported that Booksmart’s Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to play Abby Anderson.
Given the prestige TV treatment by writer/creator duo Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, The Last Of Us was a major ratings success early this year – in fact, HBO ordered a second season almost as soon as episodes began to air in January.
Now that those strikes are over, it’s widely reported that The Last Of Us season two will begin production in early 2024 – indeed, an entry on the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s website (as spotted by Insider Gaming) reveals that filming is set to begin on 7th January 2024 in Vancouver.
If that’s the case, then filming is mere weeks away – which might be why we’re starting to hear some casting gossip emerge from Hollywood insiders.

The Justice League and the Huntsmen are back in Justice League x Rwby: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part Two, to conclude the underwhelming story from April’s part one. Other than commercial considerations, there is no real reason for the two teams to be paired together; no real character and dramatic opportunities are present, which may be why the story doesn’t really work.
We force the Jl heroes to be transformed into teen versions of themselves and brought to the Huntsmen’s world, working across Remnant’s four kingdoms of Vale, Mistral, Atlas, and Vacuo to fight the good fight. Spider-Man 2 saw Laura Bailey's Mary Jane character take a villainous twist and become the symbiote known as Scream.
Insomniac Games' latest super-powered adventure took a stab at one of the most iconic Spider-Man stories of all time, bringing the notorious Symbiote known as Venom into the fray along with Peter Parker's iconic black spidey suit.
While this PlayStation 5 (PS5) epic took plenty of inspiration from the classic comics storyline, there were plenty of twists and turns to enjoy.

Emily Gale has been having nightmares which may be related to her mother’s death. Her psychiatrist Dr. North (Laura Bailey) isn’t much help, especially when it comes to the biggest question of all, the identity of Dorothy, whom characters in her dreams mention.
And then, as if by magic, she finds something among her mother’s belongings. It’s a notebook belonging to her grandmother Dorothy Gale (Karen Swan; Guilty Pleasures). And, as it turns out, she’s still alive although confined to a nursing home. Emily makes arrangements to visit, but that may raise more questions than it answers.
Director Daniel Alexander also provided the story that Matthew R. Ford turned into a script that shows a side of Oz that I haven’t seen since Walter Murch traumatized kids,...

This will be a pretty interesting Fall for Marvel fans. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will spawn one new movie, ‘The Marvels’, and the second season of the ‘Loki’ Disney+ series. But apart from that, Spider-Man fans are looking forward to ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,’ the highly anticipated video game developed by Insomniac Games that serves as the sequel to 2018’s original ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ and its spin-off ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales,’ which was released in 2020.
The original ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ game is the most successful first-party game ever released on PS4, with over 20 million copies sold. Being one of the most popular superheroes and fictional characters ever created, it’s no wonder that Spider-Man was adapted numerous times into all kinds of media. When Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the character back in 1962, we aren’t sure if they were aware of what legend they created, and that legend has remained ubiquitous to this day.
Now, in 2023, we can say that we’ve read countless Spider-Man stories in the comics, watched eight live-action movies, two animated theatrical movies, and many animated series. Also, the Spider-Man fans had a chance to play countless video games on various platforms.
The first-ever video game based on Spider-Man was released back in 1982 for Atari 2600 and Odyssey 2 platforms. Since then, numerous video games featuring Spider-Man have been released, including three games based on Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’ movie trilogy and two games based on Marc Webb’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ duology.

In 2018, just months before Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse redefined what a Spider-Man story could look like on the big screen, the team at Insomniac and PlayStation unleashed their own game-changing iteration. Spider-Man became the definitive Spidey video game, with Spider-Man: Miles Morales arriving in 2020. Combined, they have sold more than 33 million copies.
Now a long-awaiting sequel is arriving Oct. 20, and The Hollywood Reporter was among a group of media outlets that spent three hours playing the new version at a preview in Los Angeles earlier this week.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set just nine months after the events in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which saw Peter Parker taking an overseas trip and Miles adjusting to the mantle of becoming New York’s only Spider-Man. With Peter Parker back in town, the upcoming game expands on the story of how both superheroes will change and grow — both themselves,...

Enter (if you dare) the world of Candela Obscura, a new monthly horror drama series straight from the minds behind the multimedia sensation known as Critical Role. Premiering May 25 with new episodes airing the last Thursday of each month, the show, set in a fictional region known as The Fairelands, follows investigators ranging from criminals to professors who come together and use centuries of knowledge to fight against a mysterious force. The series, created by Taliesin Jaffe and Chris Lockey, is part of a brand new roleplaying game system called Illuminated Worlds, which was designed by Stras Acimovic and Layla Adelman and developed by the company’s own Darrington Press imprint. It stars Critical Role cast members and voice actors Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us: Part I & II), Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), and Taliesin Jaffe (World of Warcraft), as well as voice actors (and regular...

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "The Last of Us," and the game's sequel, "The Last of Us Part II."
Season 1 of "The Last of Us" was not just one of HBO's most successful new shows in over a decade, but also a landmark moment for video game adaptations. A once cursed genre has now been proven to be especially profitable, and as various other games like "Fallout" make their way to becoming live-action shows, there is a bright future ahead in the entertainment industry. The HBO series faithfully captured the post-apocalyptic dystopia of Naughty Dog's critically acclaimed game in live-action, as well as delivered career-best performances from Pedro Pascal ("The Mandalorian") and Bella Ramsey ("Game of Thrones").
What was the secret to "The Last of Us" and its rare critical success? According to showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, it was about staying true to the essence of the original story,...

They always say that if there's a question mark in a headline then the answer to whatever that question is "No." So let's get that out of the way right up front. Will the original voice and performance capture actor from "The Last of Us Part 2" video play the main antagonist, Abby, in "The Last of Us" season 2? I can pretty confidently say no.
Laura Bailey performed Abby Anderson in the video game and did a hell of a job, I must say. Abby is a complicated character, full of determined rage and surprising depth and Bailey absolutely captured that in her performance, but there's a slight complication in that she doesn't really embody the character and her unique physicality in the real world.

HBO's "The Last of Us" managed to create a compelling video game adaptation by adhering to the dual strategy of staying true to the roots of the game while expanding upon aspects that warranted greater narrative depth. This approach has worked in the show's favor so far, as reflected in the overwhelmingly positive response towards episodes like "Long, Long Time" and "Endure and Survive," which fleshed out backstories for supporting characters in meaningful ways. A good adaptation always finds ways to improve upon its source material, and "The Last of Us" has succeeded in doing so thanks to the passionate involvement of series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who innately understand the heart of this tragic apocalyptic tale.

The original Joel Miller shows up in HBO's adaptation of "The Last of Us" — just not in his original part. Troy Baker, who voiced and mo-capped Joel in the video game, plays James, the right-hand man of Bible-quoting cannibal David (Scott Shepherd). It might seem like a downgrade, but Baker was surprised to get even that substantive a part.
Speaking to Deadline about his experience on the series, Baker described how Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann came to him with the part:
"Neil was coy about this potential role. He was like, 'So, there's a character that we have in mind for you, if you're interested. If you don't feel interested, it's totally fine.' And I'm like, 'Dude, if there's anything for me ..." Look, I thought I was going to be a Clicker.

This Last of Us article contains Major Spoilers for season 1 and potentially season 2.
The mushroom madness of The Last of Us season one has come to an end, but with HBO already giving a second run of episodes the green light (was anyone really doubting it?), all eyes are on what’s next for Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel (Pedro Pascal) now that they’ve completed their mission to find the Fireflies.
Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin serves as showrunner for the HBO series, working alongside Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann to bring the classic 2013 game to life. For the second season, the pair have confirmed that they’re going to next adapt 2020’s The Last of Us Part II.
In fact, some fans think the season 1 finale, “Look for the Light,” is actually hiding a major character from The Last of Us Part II in plain sight, paving the way...

Curse? What curse? For all the usual doom-mongering around video game adaptations, the quickfire phenomon of The Last of Us should surprise no one. The nine-episode HBO series, adapted from the acclaimed 2013 game, had everything going in its favour. A generous prestige TV budget. Charismatic stars on the upswing of their careers. Well-plotted, character-driven source material. All it needed to do was stick the landing, and it did. The Last of Us has been both a critical and commercial smash, with viewership numbers ballooning as the series went on. Its second season renewal, announced back in January, was inevitable. But while season one was a slam dunk, its follow-up has the potential to be a disaster.
As fans of the game know well – but millions of TV viewers may not – The Last of Us had a sequel, released in 2020. Set four years after the ending of the original, The Last...

Spoiler Alert: This contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of “The Last of Us,” now streaming on HBO Max.
“The Last of Us” was officially renewed for a Season 2 by HBO in January, but the creators are planning “more than one season” to tell the much larger story from the video game’s sequel, “The Last of Us: Part II.”
Released on the PlayStation 4 in 2020, seven years after the original game debuted, “The Last of Us: Part II” tells a bigger, more complex story than its predecessor. There are many more characters, flashbacks and action set pieces, and the creators of the HBO adaptation, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, confirmed to GQ that the events of “Part II” will span more than one season.
When asked if Season 2 will include the entire “Part II” story, Mazin said, “No. No way.” Druckmann added, “It’s more than one season.”

This post contains major spoilers for the season finale of "The Last of Us."
The ending of the original "The Last of Us" game is what instantly solidified it as one of my favorite stories ever told. As it was, the narrative was already an exemplary pastiche of the zombie genre, prioritizing the innate human drama of surviving in a decaying world over clichés and senseless violence. Of course, it can be a downer at times, but as we've seen through the tales that intersect Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie's (Bella Ramsey) adventure through the post-apocalyptic United States, the series is also capable of depicting genuine joy, catharsis, unrelenting trauma, and the visceral weight of love and connection.
Joel and Ellie, the duo who were once player-characters and who are now TV protagonists, are our window into this dystopia. Sure, it's been done before — the surrogate father/daughter relationship between...

[This story contains major spoilers for The Last of Us season one finale, “Look for the Light.”]
The Last of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann tackled some of the burning questions raised by the first season finale of their acclaimed HBO drama series, “Look for the Light,” which they co-wrote and Ali Abbasi directed. The co-creators also teased some of their thinking about season two, when speaking during an embargoed press conference with reporters last week:
— On Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) decision to execute the Fireflies who wanted to use Ellie (Bella Ramsey) to make a potential pandemic cure, a procedure he learned would kill her in the process: “When you love something unconditionally, logic goes out the window and you will do really horrible things to protect the ones you love,” Mazin says. “And there’s a lot of examples worldwide of this happening all the time. Several actors from “The Last of Us” video game have cameoed throughout the first season of HBO’s adaptation. But co-creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin revealed that there’s another actor from the franchise who has a cameo you may have missed in Sunday’s finale: Laura Bailey.
Bailey is known for originating the role of Abby in the game’s sequel “The Last of Us Part II.”
“It was kind of late along and Merle [Dandrige] was back to play Marlene…and Laura and Merle are great friends,” Mazin recalled. “And we were like ‘I mean, you want to be a nurse?’ and she was like ‘Yeah.’ It was just this fun thing.”

“We did that! We did that, right?” The quote, from the first season of The Legend of Vox Machina, could sum up the character of Keyleth The Air Ashari (voiced by Marisha Ray) in a nutshell. Despite being powerful and determined, Keyleth is never one to bust into a situation with confidence and arrogance; in fact, her biggest struggle with herself and within the group known as Vox Machina is self-doubt and insecurity. We see it when the group defeats big dragons and monsters, being surprised that her spells and ideas actually worked. We see it when she tries to insert herself into friendly interactions, only to face awkwardness for not reading the room correctly. Keyleth’s anxieties — the crux of which, Ray revealed in an interview a few years ago, were somewhat related to her own personal feelings when she sat down to play Dungeons & Dragons with established...

For Ashley Johnson, the chance to be a voice actor in the post-apocalyptic video game The Last of Us Part II was both a risk and irresistible. It was her first gig as a video-game protagonist, as her character, Ellie, moved up from a supporting role. But Part II wasn’t a paint-by-numbers sequel: It killed off a beloved character; it featured a lesbian lead on its cover; and it subverted the dynamic of the original, which followed a white man as he protected a young girl from danger. As...

The cast of The Legend of Vox Machina has come up against a lot of obstacles in both their regularly streamed Critical Role campaign and their acclaimed Prime Video series (the second season of which debuts January 20). And in a Just Asking segment for TV Insider, they got real about their biggest choices yet: their favorite costumes, which “Big Bad” they prefer, and of course, the important stuff: like who has the best dice collection in the group. “I’m going to say probably me,” declares game master Matthew Mercer. “Because I still have dice from high school when I first played in the ’90s as well as dice that are carved from mammoth bone, dice that are made from ancient petrified wood, dice that are made from petrified dinosaur poop…all sort of odd unique things.” “Bailey has got a huge collection,” adds Ashley Johnson, who plays cleric gnome Pike Trickfoot,...

The Critical Role crew swings back into hilarious, perilous and profanity-laced fantasy action with the Season 2 debut of “The Legend of Vox Machina” on Friday, Jan. 20, on Prime Video.
As with the first season, Prime Video will release Season 2 of the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired show in three-episode weekly batches, culminating in 12 episodes total. In the new series, the Vox Machina heroes/antiheroes face off against a powerful foursome of dragons called the Chroma Conclave, which spew ice and acid, have nearly impenetrable armor and threaten to destroy the world of Exandria.
For Season 1 of “Vox Machina,” the eight principal Critical Role members (who each also serve as executive producers) needed to provide a healthy dose of exposition. That was in large part to bring viewers unfamiliar with the motley band of adventurers — based on Critical Role’s original D&d campaign, which dates back to 2015 — up to speed.

“The Legend of Vox Machina” Season 2 is putting a major emphasis on the “dragons” of Dungeons and Dragons.
The Prime Video series dropped an action-packed official trailer for Season 2, which begins rolling out on the streamer on Jan. 20. Like the first season, the follow-up will release three episodes per week, culminating in 12 episodes total.
Season 2 will follow the Chroma Conclave campaign from Critical Role’s popular Dungeons and Dragons web series. The heroes of Vox Machina will have to face a powerful group of dragons called the Chroma Conclave before they destroy the world of Exandria. And these aren’t your typical fire-breathing dragons — they spew ice and acid and have nearly impenetrable armor. To defeat these beasts, the Vox Machina heroes must find rare weapons powerful enough to kill gods. Or, as Grog the goliath suggests, they could just “fuck shit up.”

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons marks a couple of firsts, although they’ve had several print team-ups and their own comic, it’s the first on-screen pairing of the sons of DC’s biggest superheroes. It’s also the first of DC’s animated films to be completely done by computer, using the same styling as Marvel’s “What If” series.
It opens with a pre-credits recap of how Superman came to Earth, only with one small addition, which may seem puzzling, but will be explained later in the film. That’s followed by what is basically another origin story, that of Superboy, aka Jonathan Kent the son of Superman, and Lois Lane.

For a brief, glorious moment in the comics, Damian Wayne and Jon Kent were the next big thing in the DC Universe. Then Jon got aged up and sent to space, and Damian went off to Kumite Island to fight his grandma and they got split up. Oh well, that’s comics for you! In case you can’t tell, some folks are a little broken up about Super-Sons, the comic that followed young teen Superboy and Robin and was utterly delightful, ending.

And with its premiere coming at New York Comic Con at a main stage panel moderated by Den of Geek’s own Mike Cecchini, we’re...
