“The Magnificent Seven” and its tale of gunslingers and bandits may not be over. Sources are saying that a TV series based on the classic Western is currently in the works with “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto attached to the project.
Pizzolatto co-wrote the original action film alongside Richard Wenk. This new project will be a series adaptation of the MGM title, which originally premiered in 1960 and was remade in 2016. At the moment, it is in development and has a series commitment penalty attached; it will be produced as an Amazon Studios original, TheWrap has confirmed.
Last month, TheWrap reported that Pizzolatto was partnering with Amazon to release an as-yet title series.

Nic Pizzolatto is developing a series version of “The Magnificent Seven” at Amazon, Variety has confirmed.
The project was originally reported on back in March with a series commitment. It was originally intended to be an original series, but was refashioned to be a new take on the Western classic. Pizzolatto previously co-wrote the 2016 remake of “The Magnificent Seven.”
The logline for the reboot states, “In the tradition of the great epics from the golden age of westerns, an outlaw and his cohorts must unite a disparate band of indelible fighters to defend a settlement of immigrant homesteaders in an open range war against cattle barons in central Texas, telling an expansive saga of adventure, action and romance.”
Pizzolatto will write and executive produce, with Mark Johnson, Lawrence Mirisch, and Bruce Kaufman executive producing. Amazon Studios will produce.

Nic Pizzolatto is set to ride west again for The Magnificent Seven.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the True Detective creator is refashioning his idea for an original Western drama into a series adaptation of the former MGM title that he rebooted in 2016. The project remains in development and has a series commitment penalty attached.
As THR exclusively reported in March, Pizzolatto’s show is being fast-tracked by Nick Pepper, Amazon’s head of U.S. wholly owned series and development, who is considering the Western the streamer’s version of Paramount Network megahit Yellowstone.
Pizzolatto’s new Seven is described as being in the tradition of the great epics from the golden age of Westerns and revolves around an outlaw and his cohorts who unite a disparate band of fighters to defend a settlement of immigrant homesteaders in an open range war against cattle barons in central Texas.

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is writing and executive producing The Magnificent Seven TV series in development at Amazon Studios.
As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this month, The Magnificent Seven is among a dozen initial MGM/United Artists movie titles that Amazon Studios has identified for film and/or TV development following the acquisition of the the storied Hollywood studio.
Pizzolatto originally set out to create an original Western drama series for Amazon Studios with a significant commitment. It was to follow a former outlaw on an epic journey, assembling a gang while facing a threat from his past as he and his cohorts encounter danger along the way.
That idea subsequently morphed into a Magnificent Seven reboot as Amazon Studios brass wanted to wrap it around a piece of well known IP. This is a familiar territory for Pizzolatto who co-wrote the 2016 Magnificent Seven feature remake directed by Antoine Fuqua...

Jean-Marc Vallee is set to direct a film about John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Universal Pictures is in negotiations to option Anthony McCarten’s script with Michael De Luca Productions and Immersive Pictures producing. News first emerged in February that De Luca was collaborating with Yoko Ono for an untitled drama about Ono and her relationship with Lennon.
Vallee is attached to direct and edit. He will also rewrite the screenplay alongside McCarten. Ono will produce with De Luca, Immersive Pictures’ Josh Bratman, and McCarten. Vallee and his producing partner Nathan Ross will also produce through their production company, Crazyrose. Bruce Kaufman of Wood Hollow Pictures will executive produce.
Ono and Lennon met in 1966 at a London art gallery, where Ono was showing abstract art while the Beatles were four years into superstardom. Lennon asked Ono about her “Painting to Hammer a Nail In” piece, and if he could hammer a nail into the painting.

There are no words you can't say in the movies, so the upcoming George Carlin biopic will include the naughty seven.
Comic legend George Carlin said his job description was foole, on the Occupation Foole album. He said he always wanted to fill out official forms that way, but would add the final "e" to piss people off. Stan Chervin, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of the film Moneyball, will explore Carlin's day, and night job, in an upcoming official biopic, according to Variety. There is no word on whether the as-yet-untitled project will be released in theatrical, streaming or TV format. The film will be produced by The Jackal Group.

There is either a couple of football fans or Jerry Maguire/Moneyball with this year’s most liked unproduced screenplay. Close to 300 hundred film executives provided with the Black List creators a top ten of their favorite screenplays of the year and the consensus first overall pick (with 65 votes) comes from the recently featured in Variety (10 Screenwriters to Watch 2012) tandem of Rajiv Joseph & Scott Rothman and their drama which has nothing to do with enlisting in the armed forces. Draft Day – about the day in the life of a fictitious Buffalo Bills Gm appears to currently be in turnaround — which only means I expect to see this greenlight perhaps a little later than sooner – worth noting: top spot almost guarantees that the film will indeed go into production (2006, 2010 and 2011 are the exceptions.) Among the more alluring logline subjects we find on the list, I’d be keen on reading the...

A music-driven film featuring the music of the Grateful Dead is finally being put into production, Deadline is reporting. ICM agent Bruce Kaufman has picked up the rights to the rock band’s full music catalog. He will produce a musical film, styled like his 2007 Beatles-inspired movie ‘Across the Universe.’ With it’s unprecedented access to the Grateful Dead’s catalog, ICM will create a narrative-style feature film built around the band’s songs. The movie will reportedly capture the Haight-Ashbury hippie spirit that was popularized in the late 1960s and early ’70s by such Grateful Dead songs as ‘Truckin’,’ ‘U.S. Blues,’ ‘Dark Star’ and ‘Good Lovin’.’ Kaufman will work with the band’s...

When Julie Taymor manipulated the song catalog of The Beatles into the soundtrack for her fantasy musical Across the Universe, reactions were strongly polarized. Never mind that there have been more terrible covers of Beatles songs than there is time in the day to play them all; people don't always like to see a grand re-working of a big chunk of the band's songbook all at once. I don't expect that there will be similarly angry responses to a movie that does the same thing for the songs of the Grateful Dead. After all, the Dead reinterpreted their own songs night after night in their famously rambling, freestyle live shows. The spirit behind those live shows, and the devoted roadtripping audience that followed the band, could actually be a good thing to channel into a history of the 60's and early '70s as seen though the prism of the band's music.
