Gqeberha (South Africa), Feb 20 (Ians) Former captain Mithali Raj feels the Indian team has been scratchy in both batting and bowling at the Icc Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 and they have to put up the best performance in all three departments of the game in the semi-final.
India suffered an 11-run defeat to England on Saturday as their chase ran out of steam in the final overs when they needed a daunting 31 runs from the final six deliveries.
A final over of 19 papered over the cracks in India’s effort, as England improved their tournament record against India to 6-0, also storming to the top of the Group 2 table.
Raj, speaking on the 100 Cricket Podcast, pinpointed the middle-over periods across both innings as where India faulted.
“The over that India lost Smriti Mandhana, that point was so crucial because she was building a partnership with Richa Ghosh. Until she was there,...

East London (South Africa), Feb 3 (Ians) India’s off-spin all-rounder Deepti Sharma revealed that working on her bowling in specific sessions before arriving in South Africa is giving her results, as seen from a Player of the Series award in the recent women’s T20I tri-series.
In the women’s T20I tri-series, Deepti picked nine wickets, averaging 9.89, apart from making 49 runs to take the Player of the Series award. She had earlier picked 13 wickets at a remarkable average of 7.69 in India’s victorious campaign at the Women’s T20 Asia Cup last year.
“I had worked with a single wicket with different balls like with heavy ball and light ball. It was a turning wicket, so I got a lot of help. I bowled to my strength. Like in the Power-play, I go for breakthroughs and it helped the team. Whatever sessions that I did before the World...

Mumbai, Dec 15 (Ians) India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur feels that playing out too many dot balls in a chase of 173 against Australia in the third T20I at Brabourne Stadium cost her team a victory.
On Wednesday, despite Harmanpreet adding 73 runs in 50 balls with Shafali Verma (52 off 41) for the third wicket, India were unable to avoid a 21-run loss, playing 55 dot balls, giving Australia a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
“It’s not all about power-hitting. Even if we were to consider and analyse the last match, we were aiming to get 10-11 runs in the over. During the match also we were getting boundaries but we played too many dot balls. That is the reason why we were not able to win this game.”
“Otherwise, you have to analyse your strengths and if you play in a calculative way, you can even win matches for your teams. In this match,...

Mumbai, Dec 14 (Ians) Star all-rounder Ellyse Perry (47 off 75), Grace Harris ( 41 off 18) and a disciplined performance with the ball guided Australia Women to a convincing 21-run win in the third T20I against India and a 2-1 lead in the five-match series at Brabourne Stadium, here on Wednesday.
Batting first, Australia posted 172 for 8 in 20 overs. In reply, India were restricted to 151 for 7 despite a 41-ball 52 by Shafali Verma.
Chasing a challenging total, last game’s star performer Smriti Mandhana struggled to get going before she got out to Darcie Brown for 1 off 10. After her wicket, Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues struck regular boundaries to maintain the required run-rate.
Rodrigues (16) struck three fours off Annabel Sutherland but couldn’t continue longer and got out to Brown in the 5th over. Shafali, who was dropped by Ashleigh Gardner off Megan Schutt, helped India to 41/2 at the end of the powerplay.
