Cricket Unfiltered notches up a significant milestone next week celebrating its 10 year anniversary on August 21st. The podcast was founded in 2013 by Andrew Menczel (aka Menners) and was the first ever regular weekly cricket podcast in Australia and was a pioneering show for all sports podcasts.
The show started as The Australian Cricket Podcast with hosts Andrew Menczel, James MacSmith and Joe Karsay and then rebranded as 'Cricket Unfiltered' in 2017.
Menners began the show because he felt Aussie cricket podcast fans needed a show about their team because the only cricket podcasts were mainly concerned with the old enemy, England! Menners on starting the show "I went on an English cricket podcast and I thought Aussie fans deserve a podcast! I have always wanted to do a great show for cricket fans and especially fans of the Aussie cricket team".

London, July 24 (Ians) Australia’s veteran spinner Nathan Lyon backed the decision to leave young off-spinner Todd Murphy out of the playing eleven for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford, saying his non-inclusion worked as a decent selection as the visitors needed an additional batter in the rain-hit match.
Murphy’s exclusion from the playing eleven at Manchester took many by surprise, with the legendary Steve Waugh calling the decision as a “mistake” prior to the start of the match. But Lyon, who was ruled out of the Ashes due to a torn calf sustained at Lord’s, thought otherwise.
“It’s really hard for me to comment on that. You look at it now, obviously, they went off conditions based and with the forecast in mind with that selection. Having the extra batter in the second innings was pretty handy if they happened to get on last night,...

Manchester, July 21 (Ians) Legendary Australian cricketer Steve Waugh revealed he attempted to persuade Nathan Lyon via a text message to stay with the team in England in a bid to play in the fifth Ashes Test after the veteran off-spinner sustained a right calf injury which ended his time in the series.
Lyon, playing in his 100th consecutive Test match at Lord’s, pulled up sharply after running in to take a catch of Ben Duckett off the bowling of Cameron Green in the leg-side after tea in the 37th over. Though he did face 13 balls with the bat, Lyon was diagnosed with a significant calf strain and eventually ruled out for the rest of the series.
“I actually sent Nathan Lyon a message after he did his calf. I said, ‘Mate, don’t give up on it, you’ve got 18 days, you might be able to get back for...

Manchester, July 20 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Steve Waugh slammed Australia for dropping Todd Murphy from the playing eleven for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford.
The visitors dropped off-spinner Murphy from the lineup for the fourth Test. Instead, they opted to bring back Cameron Green to join forces with fellow all-rounder Mitch Marsh.
It is the first time since 2012 that Australia has run with an XI missing a frontline spinner in a Test match.
“I tend to disagree with it. I think it’s a mistake, particularly in Manchester where the ball does turn,” Waugh told Senq Breakfast of the Australian selection.
In the absence of the injured Nathan Lyon during the third Test, off-spinner Murphy was brought in but had limited opportunities, bowling only 9.3 overs and only two in the second innings when England ran down a modest target of 251 to win by three wickets and keep the series alive.

London, June 29 (Ians) Adding another feather to his cap, star batter Steve Smith on Thursday equalled Steve Waugh’s record of 32 Test centuries for Australia on Day 2 of the second Ashes 2023 Test against England at Lord’s.
Smith now has only Ricky Ponting, who has scored 41 centuries, in his sights on Australia’s all-time Test ton scoring charts. Moreover, playing his 174th innings in his 99th Test, Smith is the fastest to reach the 32-ton mark.
With this latest century, Smith has now equaled Jack Hobbs’ tally of 12 centuries in Ashes, placing them both in second position. The legendary Don Bradman continues to reign supreme at the top of the list with an impressive 19 centuries to his name.

New Delhi, June 13 (Ians) Former Bcci president Sourav Ganguly has said that the board was not ready for Virat Kohli to step down as India Test skipper, adding that it was his personal decision and the star batter can only reveal why he left the captaincy in the longest format of the game.
Ganguly’s latest remarks come in the wake of fans calling for the reinstatement of Kohli as India’s Test captain after the Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a 209-run defeat to Australia in the World Test Championship final. However, Kohli hasn’t been at his best with the bat in Test cricket in the last three years.

New Delhi, Feb 25 (Ians) Australia’s middle-order batter Travis Head said being dropped for the opening Test against India was something which he didn’t expect. He added that he was ready to play anywhere in the line-up after being recalled for the second Test in New Delhi.
Left-handed Head was left out of Australia’s playing eleven for the first Test of the four-match series in Nagpur after his previous struggles against spin on the tours of Pakistan and Sri Lanka last year, a move which was heavily criticised by former players like the legendary Steve Waugh.
“It was as simple as that, I didn’t get an opportunity. It was something that I didn’t expect coming here, sometimes that happens. The conversations were robust. Everyone has different opinions. I respect the coaching staff and selectors and I have a really strong relationship with them.”

New Delhi, Feb 21 (Ians) With the Australian batters failing miserably in the first two Tests of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, former opener Matthew Hayden has offered to help the tourists solve their batting woes in Indi.
Hayden, who was the Pakistan cricket team’s mentor for the 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup, is in India as a commentator for official broadcaster Star Sports and has no formal involvement with the touring side.
However, on Tuesday he told the Sydney Morning Herald that he is 100 per cent ready to help the Australian batters who have produced scores of 177, 91 and 262 and 113 in four innings in India so far with Usman Khawa’a being the only Australian batter to score a half-century so far.

New Delhi, Dec 31 (Ians) Though Australia have got Test series victories at home over West Indies and South Africa, former fast bowler Geoff Lawson believes that one will find out the true steel of the Pat Cummins-led side in times to come when the team will tour India and England next year.
“The results against the Windies and South Africa have inured a winning culture. The downside of those comfortable victories is that there have been precious few periods of pressure to hone the psyche. Those times are about to come, and we will find out the true steel of Cummins’ Australians.”
“As much as this summer has been characterised by the mediocrity of the visitors’ cricket, the coming winter is the most expected for an age: “Bazball” versus “Patball”, preceded by four Tests in India. The contrast in conditions will be stark,” wrote Lawson in his column for...

New Delhi, Nov 28 (Ians) Legendary Australia cricketer Steve Waugh has stated his disappointment with the hectic cricketing schedule in the country this year, adding that it has become very hard for a spectator to keep up with the matches.
Cricket Australia (CA) has been heavily criticised for scheduling the matches of the men’s team in the country over the summer months, especially after poor crowds in the 3-0 Odi series over England, which began just three days after Men’s T20 World Cup ended.
In the T20 World Cup too, Australia, despite being the hosts and defending champions, recorded an average attendance of 37,565 across its five Super 12 matches, including the abandoned fixture against England at the McG.
Though CA CEO Nick Hockley pointed to rescheduling of fixtures after the Covid-19 pandemic as a reason behind the packed schedule, Waugh has aired his concerns over how it is becoming tough...

Perth, Oct 25 (Ians) Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting is confident a bruised and battered Australia will use their pace bowling arsenal to devastating effect in the Super 12 match against Sri Lanka here later on Tuesday after the hammering they received from New Zealand in the opening game of the Icc T20 World Cup at Scg on October 22.
Ponting was part of the winning 1999 Cricket World Cup campaign, where the Australians had early setbacks, losing to New Zealand and Pakistan, before they made it to the final and thrashed Pakistan by eight wickets in a low-scoring match.
Not only did Steve Waugh’s men need to triumph in their remaining group games, Australia needed to win all their matches in the Super Six phase, having no points carried over from their stage campaign. Australia managed to win seven consecutive matches after the two losses to lift the trophy at Lord’s.

New Delhi, March 1 (Ians) Former Australia captain Steve Waugh said that he had a culture shock when he came to Mumbai for the first time.
Waugh said that he has always been fascinated with how locals in India celebrated cricket.
"Landing in Bombay or Mumbai, as it is now, was a total culture shock, there were just people everywhere, there were cars and bikes and animals and rats and cats running along the footpath and it was just like, where am I? I am in a different world which was just a total shock and a bombardment of the senses," said Waugh in the documentary 'Capturing Cricket: Steve Waugh in India' that is currently streaming on Discovery Plus.
Waugh's first visit to the country for cricket was during Australia's 1986/87 tour of India. He played as an all-rounder at the time and had meagre returns of 59 runs and two wickets in the three Tests he played.

Sydney, Dec 22 (Ians) Cricket Australia is not actively considering a new captain for the men's cricket team, said the board's chairman Earl Eddings amid speculation that Steve Smith could be re-appointed to the position.
Former batsman Mark Waugh had said before the start of Australia's first Test against India that Smith should be made captain after current skipper Tim Paine retires.
"First of all we've got three great captains in Meg (Lanning), Aaron (Finch) and Tim (Paine). We've got some great young leaders coming through. So it's not just about should Steve take over, it's about what's best overall," Eddings told ESPNcricinfo.
"Steve's a great young man and he was a good captain when he was there. Like any succession there's planning in place. Have we sat down as a board specifically to discuss the next captain? No we haven't."

Sydney, Dec 14 (Ians) Australia should not get involved in verbal confrontation with Virat Kohli and instead adopt a measured and balanced approach against the India skipper during the first Test in Adelaide, beginning on Thursday, Aussie limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch has warned his teammates in the Test squad.
"I think the change is in the way he (Kohli) goes about it now. I think as a person he is probably a bit more relaxed out on the field and understands the tempo of the game," Finch, who is not part of the Test squad, was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald.
"I think there will be times when things boil over and when you have got strong characters on either team that's going to come to a head at some point. (But) there is a fine balance there, isn't there? You don't want him to get up and about in the contest.

New Delhi, Dec 11 (Ians) The Eden Gardens Test of 2001 against Australia is often considered the game that turned around India's cricket, giving them self-belief and confidence. Sourav Ganguly's team won a thrilling game thanks to Vvs Laxman and Rahul Dravid's batting after being made to follow-on. But before their historic partnership, the base was set by Harbhajan Singh's historic hat-trick, the first by an Indian in Test cricket.
Harbhajan, who was just 20 years old then, took three wickets in three balls in Australia's first innings to put the skids on their charge. From 252 for four with Ricky Ponting and captain Steve Waugh at the crease, the visitors crumbled to 252 for seven in the space of three balls on a batting surface.

New Delhi, Nov 25 (Ians) The historic India-Australia Kolkata Test of the 2000-01 series was Shyam Kumar Bansal's last of his six-Test career as an umpire, and it turned out to be a see-saw battle that has gone down as one of the best Tests ever played. Wellington, Nov 9 (Ians) New Zealand Test opener Tom Blundell has added his name in the list of batsmen who have been dismissed in an unusual manner after he got out for obstructing the field during the Plunket Shield match between Wellington and Otago at the Basin Reserve.
The incident happened on the final day of the fixture on Sunday when Blundell, batting on 101, edged a ball from Otago fast bowler Jacob Duffy back toward his stumps and first used his foot to try to stop the ball - which is legal as per the McC rules. The 30-year-old, not having deflected the ball, however then tapped with his glove, which is against the rules and was adjudged out by the umpires.
The right-hand batsman would have been out handled the ball but a change in the laws of cricket in 2017 brought that mode of dismissal under obstructing the field.

Melbourne, Nov 6 (Ians) Former Australia captain Steve Waugh believes Virat Kohli's form with the bat play a crucial role in India's defence of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the Aussies should refrain from sledging him as it could motivate the India skipper to do well.
"Sledging is not going to worry Virat Kohli, it doesn't work against the great players and you're better off leaving those guys alone. I think any extra motivation will make them dig in more and get more runs. So you're better off not saying much to him," Waugh said in a video posted on ESPNcricinfo.
The two teams will face each other in the four-Test series to be played Down Under in December-January.
India, under Kohli in the 2018/19 series, became the first Asian side to beat Australia in a Test series in their own den. The series featured stellar performances from batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara,...

KollywoodMany a time, forgettable films still remain in people's memory solely for Vadivelu's evergreen comedy.Megha KaveriPadithurai Pandi, Kirikaalan, Naai Sekar, Snake Babu. Behind these quirky names is one man, Vadivelu, who had taken Kollywood by storm when he was active. Though it has been a few years since he was seen in a memorable role in movies, his comedy tracks and one-liners continue to live on, years after the audience first watched the films on screen. The reason why Vadivelu is trending now is the hashtag #Pray_for_Neasamani which has been one of the top global trends since Wednesday night. The source for this strange hashtag was a Facebook post by a Civil Engineers page which had posted a picture of a hammer and asked the users what it was called in their regions. The reply to that post by a Vadivelu fan and the reaction to...

It's with a great sense of disbelief - a feeling I know is shared by many in our industry still reeling from the passing of Jeff Truman - that I solemnly inform Awg members that we have lost the significant talents of James Walker from our screens.
A bright and sharp-minded contributor to Australian scriptwriting for more than a decade, James - at the youthful age of 41 years, husband and father of two young boys - succumbed to a diabetic coma on 11 January and was tragically unable to recover. He passed away peacefully on 20 January, surrounded by family.
A boy from Perth, James' talent was noticed early; he was singled out via a competition and sent to La for an experience that cemented his intention to become a writer. In various roles - including Script Editor, Script Producer and freelance writer - James worked on many of our fine dramas,...

After 31 years, the historian's annual evening of films about cricket history has been axed by BFI chairman Greg Dyke
For 31 years, the historian David Frith has mounted an annual evening of mostly black and white film about cricket's history at the British Film Institute. There, you could watch priceless film of players from An Hornby and Victor Trumper to Len Hutton and Don Bradman. Over the years, aficionados such as Harold Pinter and Peter O'Toole could be found mixing with players like Denis Compton and Steve Waugh in the audience. Last year, the BFI dubbed Mr Frith's archive evenings "unimprovable". This year they have been axed by BFI chairman Greg Dyke, who cites the wish to revitalise his programme. As the England XI in Australia struggle to reach totals Hutton once made on his own, and while players bicker and sledge in ways that Trumper – filmed in 1910 accepting a run-out...

Morning everyone. How are you feeling this morning? Palms a little moist? Brow a touch fevered? Thoughts about the respective merits of Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad inexplicably dominating your inner monologue? It's time, at last. The 2000th Test, the 100th between England and India, and the most eagerly anticipated match in
this country outside of an Ashes series since the West Indies were in their pomp a whippersnapper's lifetime ago.
This being the proper start of the summer it's probably worth checking the weather. A quick look outside the window from the top floor of Guardian Towers eastwards across the cityscape shows a solid gray morass of cloud, stretching from here to eternity St John's Wood. We might not start on time but the weathermen say that we'll get plenty of play,...
