Ben Crump, co-counsel Ray Hamlin, and other attorneys held a press conference on Tuesday in New York featuring a key witness who claims undercover officials were involved in the assassination of Malcolm X in 1965.
Mustafa Hassan — who spoke for the first time publicly about his observations from the day Malcolm X was killed, and was part of the Organization of Afro-American Unity (Oaau), formed by Malcolm X — said he was on security detail at the event at Audubon Ballroom where Malcolm X was shot.

The New York Police Department’s violent tactics during the 2020 protests against police violence and racial injustice could cost New York City and its taxpayers between $4 and $6 million thanks to a new settlement.
New York City has agreed to pay $21,500 each to the approximately 300 people who were arrested June 4, 2020 while demonstrating in the Bronx. Those who were given Desk Appearance Tickets instead of summonses, and were thus detained longer, will be eligible for an additional $2,500. (Every person who was arrested eventually had their case dismissed.)

Ilyasah Shabazz, 60, was two-years-old when her father, civil rights activist Malcolm X, was slain by three armed men as he was preparing to speak in New York. Shabazz announced on Tuesday, the anniversary of his 1965 assassination, that her family is suing the FBI, the CIA, the New York Police Department, and other agencies for allegedly concealing evidence related to his killing.

Muhammad A. Aziz and Khalil Islam — who each spent more than 20 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of the 1965 assassination of civil rights leader Malcolm X — will receive 26 million from New York City to settle lawsuits filed on behalf of the men, as The New York Times reports. Aziz and Islam were exonerated last year following a nearly two-year investigation, which concluded that the two would have likely been acquitted if the Federal Bureau of Investigation and New York Police Department had not withheld key evidence.

Update, Thursday, 12:27 Pm Pt: A New York Judge granted a motion to vacate the convictions of Muhammad A. Aziz and Khalil Islam in the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X, as District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. apologized for what he called a “decades long injustice.”
“I apologize for what were serious, unacceptable violations of the law and the public trust,” Vance told Chief Administrative Judge Ellen Biben. “I apologize on behalf of our nation’s law enforcement for this decades-long injustice, which has eroded public faith in institutions that are designed to guarantee the equal protection of the law. We can’t restore what was taken from these men and their families, but by correcting the record, perhaps we can begin to restore that faith.”
Vance said that Deputy Chief Charles King and Carey Dunne worked with the Innocence Project and David Shanies on a new investigation over the past two years.
