There’s always been something — and not just because it gives you that cozy girl in the fall with a knitted blanket kind of vibe. Any fan of the will tell you a particular aspect that speaks to them directly, whether it’s the quick-paced dialogue, charmingly eclectic cast of small-town misfits, or Lorelai’s blind hatred of Evanescence. But at its core, Gilmore Girls tells the story of a unique mother-daughter relationship. “I sold it off of a line,” Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show’s creator told Today. “It’s like a mother and daughter, but they’re like friends. And they all perked up and said, ‘Great. We’ll buy that.’” Palladino has also long maintained that she knew the story’s ending from the very beginning — long before Netflix’s revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. So how did things pan out at the end of the show?...

An open letter condemning Jonathan Glazer’s Zone of Interest Oscars acceptance speech has been signed by more than 450 Jewish Hollywood professionals.
The group consists of actors, executives, directors, creators, producers and representatives denouncing Glazer’s controversial comments made when accepting the Academy Award for best international film on March 10.
“We refute our Jewishness being hijacked for the purpose of drawing a moral equivalence between a Nazi regime that sought to exterminate a race of people, and an Israeli nation that seeks to avert its own extermination,” the letter reads.
In his acceptance at the 2024 Oscars, Glazer read from a prepared speech to thank his partners and then make a statement addressing the current Israel-Gaza conflict.
“All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say, ‘Look what they did then’; rather, ‘what we do now,’” Glazer said. “Our film shows where dehumanization leads at its worst.

“It was actually part of the pitch. The pitch was a journey from an Upper West Side ‘queen of six blocks’ house wife to Johnny Carson’s couch,” shares Amy Sherman-Palladino about how she originally envisioned the arc of her series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” The creator, writer, director, and executive producer stayed true to that vision in the series finale, which streamed on Amazon on May 26, and signed off with standup comic Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) making her big break on the Gordon Ford (Reid Scott) late night talk show. She thought ending at the moment when Midge “shot off like a rocket” made sense because “the fun is the struggle.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
Even though the series ends with Midge on the cusp of stardom, the entire season incorporated many flash-forwards to give the audience an idea of where each character winds up. A standout installment,...

If the actors and writers’ strikes last beyond the autumn, major productions could be challenged by planning for the Paris Olympics.
The French industry is cautiously optimistic that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes will not materially affect the amount of inward investment from US studio and streamer productions into the country. So far, only a handful of studio projects shooting in France have been delayed by the strikes.
However, if the strikes linger long into the autumn, there are concerns that they could upset plans for major US productions, particularly as Paris gears up to host the 2024 Olympics.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5, Episode 9 “Four Minutes.”] The curtain has closed on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and its version of Lenny Bruce played by the charismatic Luke Kirby. Compared to previous seasons, Lenny had few moments onscreen in the final chapter, but he did resurface in the series finale episode through a few flashback sequences. For anyone familiar with Lenny’s real-life history, the comedian never made it beyond the year 1966 after dying from an overdose. His dabbling with drugs was teased in Season 4 when Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) discovered various paraphernalia in their hotel bathroom, but the series doesn’t show Lenny’s demise onscreen. (Credit: Prime Video) “There weren’t many conversations had because it always felt like Amy [Sherman-Palladino] and Dan [Palladino] had something set,” Kirby tells TV Insider of the choice to leave viewers with Lenny still alive. The opening of the finale episode sees Susie (Alex Borstein...

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ended its illustrious run on Amazon after five seasons. During its tenure on the streaming platform, the series amassed multiple awards. In many ways, it was held up as the epitome of success in the streaming world. When the announcement was made that the series would end, fans assumed creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was ready to call it a day. As it turns out, she was not. In a recent interview, the famed showrunner blamed “the orcs” for the end of Maisel. She was clearly referring to the production of Rings of Power. The series, the most expensive show ever made, premiered in September 2022 on Amazon.

[Editor’s Note: The following interview contains spoilers for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” Season 5, Episode 9, “Four Minutes.”]
In the same week that “Barry” and “Succession” come to their undoubtedly grisly conclusions, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” finale is the perfect antidote. Amy Sherman-Palladino’s comedy ends a five-season run with a joyous and gratifying conclusion, the culmination of Season 5’s daring flash-forwards and the future teased for Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) all those years ago.
Officially, “Maisel” premiered in November 2017, but the first episode was one of several contenders in Prime Video’s spring pilot season that March, where viewer feedback was taken into account before the streamer greenlit further episodes. Over five seasons and six years, “Maisel” amassed 20 Emmys with 66 nominations, pop ups all over New York City, and an honorary star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

[This story includes major spoilers for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale, “Four Minutes.]
Miriam “Midge” Maisel officially became the “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” in the series finale titled “Four Minutes.”
The final episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel saw Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) take the biggest risk of her career when she finally got the chance to make an appearance on The Gordon Ford Show — against Gordon Ford’s (Reid Scott) wishes.
When Gordon’s wife, Hedy (Nina Arianda), forces the talk show host to put Midge on his show, he begrudgingly obliges and breaks his rule that employees can’t appear as guests on the show. But, instead of introducing her as a comic, he introduces her as the show’s “resident lady writer,” while the two sit on stools instead of the couch his guests usually sit on.
With four minutes left in the broadcast, Gordon cuts to commercial, much to Mike Carr’s (Jason Ralph) dismay.

[The following story includes major spoilers for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale, “Four Minutes.”]
Lenny Bruce (Luke Kirby) made an emotional and sincere return to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel during its series finale, “Four Minutes.”
The final episode of season five opened with Lenny performing the penultimate show of his career at San Francisco’s Basin Street West in 1965, where he focused mostly on his legal troubles before dancing onstage. The show, which actually took place, saw one of the comedian’s final performances a year before his tragic death in August 1966 at 40 years old.
“Anytime he was onstage, those were always Lenny Bruce’s words — every utterance,” Marvelous Mrs. Maisel co-showrunner Daniel Palladino tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We would do some trimming, but we never added.”
Toward the end of Lenny’s set, viewers see Susie Myerson (Alex Borstein) in the audience, watching the legendary comic, who seems to be too far gone at this point.

Prime Video has given a two-season order to Sherman-Palladino and Palladino’s Étoile, starring Mrs. Maisel duo of Luke Kirby, who won an Emmy for his work on the show, and Gideon Glick as well as Call My Agent! standout Camille Cottin, Simon Callow (Outlander), Lou de Laâge (The Innocents) and David Alvarez (West Side Story).
Set in New York City and Paris, the eight-episode Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars.
Word of the new series started trickling out last fall when Sherman-Palladino and Palladino held an Open Dance Call for an untitled ballet show. The duo will write, direct and executive produce the...

Reid Scott might be best known for playing an asshole, so it’s understandable if fans of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” are on high alert this season.
Scott joins the Prime Video comedy in its final season as Gordon Ford, a late-night talk show host and Midge Maisel’s (Rachel Brosnahan) new boss as she tackles the unruly territory of an all-male television writers room. In Episode 3, Gordon tries to kiss her, and in Episode 4 he boldly asks her out despite being married.
“I’m drawn to these characters that have these different sides to them, where you can see underneath the surface,” Scott told IndieWire via Zoom. “And that was the great thing; every script, episode-to-episode, we get to peel back another little layer and learn a little bit more about this guy and it just keeps you renewed and refreshed.”

They’ve been “married” for the past five seasons of Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. But actors Tony Shalhoub and Marin Hinkle will take that final bow as Abe and Rose Weissman this season.
Like most Maisel viewers, Shalhoub and Hinkle have grown fond of Rose and Abe so saying farewell to the series and the colorful characters is bittersweet.
Marin Hinkle will miss Rose’s humor on ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’
Hinkle’s portrayal of Rose leaned into being a product of that era but also dug out deep-rooted feminist tendencies. Rose also often delivered some of the best witty, dry remarks. She told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that she is going to miss Rose’s understated but hilarious sense of humor.

As the fifth and last season of Emmy-winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel launches on Prime Video Friday, creator and EP Amy Sherman-Palladino reveals she hates “every moment of it [being over]. It’s miserable. The thought of not being with these people every day. I hope the season is gratifying, at least for others. I’ll be drunk the whole time.”
Her late father was a comedian in the Big Apple and the series is a love letter to him and to New York City. “I apologize to my father for turning him into Rachel Brosnahan. I don’t think he would have been good with the hats, but I think that he would understand the pivot,” she said, joining EP Daniel Palladino and stars Brosnahan and Alex Borstein — who play Miriam “Midge” Maisel and her manager Susie Myerson — in a Q&a.

Rachel Brosnahan brought a red-hot look to the season five premiere of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in New York City, with a corset-top dress from Georges Hobeika and matching red mules from Paris Texas.
Her style for the premiere of the final season was inspired by her onscreen character, the eponymous Midge Maisel, but it was also an opportunity for Brosnahan to bring some of her personality to the red carpet.
“My stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn and I wanted to nod to Maisel and Midge with the bold color and matching shoes, but also wanted it to feel modern and more reflective of me as a person outside of the show as I head into this next chapter,” Brosnahan shares with The Hollywood Reporter.

“My life changed when Rachel Brosnahan walked into it. I will never be the same.”
That’s how The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel creator Amy Sherman-Palladino closed a farewell letter distributed on Tuesday in advance of the upcoming launch of the fifth and final season of her Emmy Award-winning Prime Video series on April 14. Later that day, Sherman-Palladino joined Maisel collaborator and husband, Daniel Palladino, and castmembers for a special PaleyFest event at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet, Sherman-Palladino took a minute to remember that moment.
“We were reading so many people and then Jeanie Bacharach, who helped cast the pilot, said there was a girl who had nothing on her résumé that would lead you to believe she could do this — she had done no comedy whatsoever,” Sherman-Palladino explained. “But Jeanie said, ‘I just feel it in my guts that Rachel Brosnahan can do this.

The cast of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” celebrated their final season on the closing night of PaleyFest Tuesday – but not before lightly ribbing the ensemble of “Yellowstone” for ditching their scheduled festival appearance last-minute.
The Emmy-winning Prime Video comedy series starring Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein was celebrated with a closing night screening and Q&a, marking the last event of the 40th William S. Paley Television Festival at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. After screening a sizzle reel of the beloved Prime Video show, several members of the cast and the creative duo behind the comedy — creator, writer, director and EP Amy Sherman-Palladino and writer, director and EP Daniel Palladino — appeared onstage for the Q&a, moderated by Stacey Wilson Hunt of The Hollywood Reporter.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will be coming to an end with season 5, and Prime Video has released a new trailer for the Emmy-winning comedy series which finds Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) closer to success than ever.
In addition to Rachel Brosnahan, the fifth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also features Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle, Michael Zegen, Kevin Pollack, Caroline Aaron, Milo Ventimiglia, Reid Scott, Alfie Fuller, Jason Ralph, and more. “Midge finds herself closer than ever to the success she’s dreamed of, only to discover that closer than ever is still so far away,” reads the official logline.
It was announced last year that this would be the last season of the series. “Amy, Dan [Palladino, executive producer], and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have blazed an unparalleled path, elevating the stories we tell about women, challenging the norms in our industry, and forever altering the entertainment landscape with their one-of-a-kind storytelling,...

It all comes down to this, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fanatics!
Prime Video on Monday dropped the official trailer for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5, and it looks like Midge's quest for stardom is in focus.
"Midge finds herself closer than ever to the success she's dreamed of, only to discover that closer than ever is still so far away," the official logline warns.
With nine episodes remaining, there's a good chance the final season could begin with Midge getting closer than ever to her dreams, only to realize there is far more work ahead.
The first-look photos also confirm that Luke Kirby will be back.
After spending a season as a series regular, he is set to be back as a recurring guest star.
It's unclear whether this decision was made for storytelling purposes or if the actor had other commitments.

Gilmore Girls gave Kirk Gleason (Sean Gunn) a lot of memorable moments. He’s had many jobs, made his own student film, and performed Fiddler on the Roof as Tevye. One of Kirk’s acts was The Journey of Man in front of Stars Hollow. Gunn remembers getting little guidance on The Journey of Man.

Gunn was a guest on Scott Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on Sept. 14. Discussing their most challenging dramatic moments, Gunn did cite Fiddler, and then remembered his other big performance.
The ‘Gilmore Girls’ script did not include details about Kirk’s Journey of Man
This discussion came after many conversations about how exacting the script on Gilmore Girls was. Patterson reflected on just how much memorizing it involved too. So it was unusual for Gunn to get a script that left so much to interpretation.

For Marcus Mumford, getting involved with the original music for “Daisy Jones & the Six” was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
The Mumford & Sons frontman was working at L.A.’s Sound City Studios on his solo record with multi-instrumentalist and producer Blake Mills — who co-wrote and executive produced all 25 songs heard in the Prime Video series, which chronicles the rise and fall of a ’70s rock band — when Mills asked if he wanted to help write a tune for the show.
“It was a slower day for my record and Blake was like, ‘Look, do you wanna try this thing for Daisy?'” Mumford tells Variety. “And I often think that… writing begets more writing. If you’re able to flex a similar muscle in a different way, then it can often help the writing you have in front of you as well.

Beck was the musical guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night, performing his new tearjerker “Thinking About You” with some help from Blake Mills and Pino Palladino.
With just the three guitarists on stage, Beck’s performance on Kimmel really put the emphasis on the sadness of his lyrics: “Wanna believe in something/ Don’t even have to be true/ Just thinking about you,” he sings, lines that we’ve speculated are about Beck’s ex-wife, with whom he recently split after 14 years together.
Beck has said before that, although he did initiate the divorce, the experience was “heartbreaking” for him. Considering this is one of the first times he’s played “Thinking About You” live in front of a crowd, it’s pretty impressive that he was able to keep his composure throughout the entire Kimmel bit. No one ever said filming in New York City was easy, especially during a pandemic. Just ask the showrunners behind Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” or the producer of Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming HBO Max limited series “Full Circle.”
“We had an incident yesterday on our set in Queens: a crazy person grabbed a grip by the hair and was trying to take a swing at her. Thank God she got away and he ran off,” “Circle” producer Jonathan Filley said in late September. “And we just had a car rear-end another car, which ran into our electric truck. … There’s a lot of mental instability in the city these days.”
This wouldn’t be a shock to “Maisel” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino or her fellow showrunner, Daniel Palladino. who had a hazardous Washington Square Park shoot in spring 2021. “There had been a lot of anti-police protests, and weirdos were encroaching on our set,...

Amazon Prime’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is keeping viewers on their toes each week by dropping clues to several ongoing mysteries. None are more intriguing than the secret identity of the man known only as “The Stranger.”
The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) blasts through the skies of Middle Earth on a meteor before crash landing and being discovered by a Harfoot named Nori (Markella Kavenagh). Little is known about this man. He can barely speak, appears disoriented, and demonstrates a clear connection with magic. The show has dropped several breadcrumbs as to the man’s true identity. Using information from “The Lord of the Rings” author J.R.R. Tolkien’s descriptions of Middle Earth lore, we can piece those clues together to form a small list of suspects.

Chicago, Il — The defense lawyers for R. Kelly and co-defendants Derrel McDavid and Milton “June” Brown began presenting their cases Thursday in the singer’s federal child pornography trial at Dirksen U.S. courthouse. But before calling their first witnesses, the defendants voiced their decisions on whether they planned to testify prior to the jury being brought into the courtroom.
“No, I’m not going to testify,” Kelly told U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber. Brown also declined his right to testify, whereas McDavid said he will testify on his behalf.

Chicago, Il — Charles Freeman claimed R. Kelly and his team made a verbal agreement to pay him 1 million to secure videos of the singer allegedly sexually assaulting a minor during his testimony on Tuesday and detailed a timeline and plan on how he claimed he did so during R. Kelly’s federal child pornography trial in Chicago at Dirksen U.S. courthouse. On Wednesday, the defense took Freeman to task on his claims for their cross-examination.

Jurors in R. Kelly’s federal trial in Chicago heard testimony from a fixer and lie detector test administrator Tuesday, Aug. 23, as prosecutors attempted to show how the disgraced singer and his associates allegedly tried to cover up and subvert previous sexual assault and child pornography allegations and investigations.
As the Chicago Tribune reports, the prosecution’s top witness today was Charles Freeman, a fixer of sorts, who did merchandise for Kelly in the Nineties and later became friends with the singer. According to Freeman, Kelly called him around 2001 with...

If it hadn’t been for the global pandemic, the fourth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel would likely have arrived in radically different form: As in previous seasons, Midge and the Maisel intimates would have ventured around the country, might have toe-dipped into ever-broader showbiz platforms. As always, the sky was the limit. But as Covid-19 made its presence known, married co-creators/showrunners Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino found themselves reconfiguring their plans to meet the moment. The resulting season — thanks in large part to their longtime practice of letting story, character and actor strengths lead them — garnered 12 Emmy nominations.
The season saw Midge’s successes and struggles pushing her stand-up comedy career forward. The supporting players — father Abe, manager Susie and ex-husband Joel — found their own lives mirroring Midge’s transitional moment after predictable paths were upended by her decision to pursue her unconventional ambitions.
