Last year, it was confirmed that both Barbie and Ken Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling would star in a new installment of the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. The pair will reportedly star as the parents of Danny Ocean.
According to Roger Friedman’s Showbiz411, the upcoming film is titled Oceans, and will serve as a prequel to the original Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, in which George Clooney portrayed Danny. Most plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it’ll involve the Ocean parents teaching their children the fundamentals of orchestrating a heist and stealing from the rich.
Oceans will also reportedly be set in the 1960s, priming it for some nostalgic references to the original 1960 Ocean’s 11 that starred Frank Sinatra as its titular heist master. As for contemporary inspirations, we also have Greta Gerwig’s Barbie to thank for bringing Gosling into the fold, after producers saw his impeccable on-screen chemistry with Robbie.

On July 3, GQ.com rolled out a hot-take story titled “How Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav Became Public Enemy Number One in Hollywood.” The piece, which was written by freelance film critic Jason Bailey and slammed Zaslav as a Logan Roy-esque mogul, quickly disappeared from GQ’s website, while a new, more friendly version popped up with a separate URL. That version, too, vanished not long after, leaving readers puzzled.
But did a GQ editor’s relationship with Warner Bros. play a role in the softening and ultimate removal of the story?
GQ editor-in-chief Will Welch is producing a movie at Warner Bros. titled “The Great Chinese Art Heist,” which is based on a 2018 GQ article by Alex W. Palmer. Jon M. Robert De Niro will be sharing the screen with Hollywood legend Robert De Niro in the upcoming gangster drama “Wise Guys.”
The movie, set at Warner Bros. and intended to play in theaters, will be directed by Barry Levinson, the veteran filmmaker who is best known for “Rain Man” and “Wag the Dog.” It reunites De Niro and Levinson, who previously teamed on “Wag the Dog,” “Sleeper,” the HBO series “The Wizard of Lies” and “What Just Happened.”
“Wise Guys” follows Italian American crime bosses Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, who ran their respective families during the 20th century. In 1957, Genovese tried (and failed) to assassinate Costello, who was ultimately injured and attempted to retire from the mafia. De Niro is expected to portray the two main characters.
Nicholas Pileggi, the co-writer of Martin Scorsese’s crime epic “Goodfellas,” which starred De Niro, is penning the screenplay for “Wise Guys.

Aaron Sorkin’s stage adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird will not return to Broadway, despite a January announcement that it would reopen in June following a winter “hiatus.”
According to Showbiz 411′s Roger Friedman, who was first to report the news, the Broadway show’s failure to relaunch after a difficult omicron-impacted winter run is the result of a decision made by former producer Scott Rudin, who still maintains the rights to the show. According to an anonymous source who spoke to Friedman, Rudin “has never gone away,” despite “a long negotiation to turn the production over to other producers.”
In emails obtained by The New York Times from Sorkin and the play’s director, Bartlett Sher, cast and crew were informed of the show’s permanent closure on Thursday, with both pointing to Rudin as the source of the decision.

To Kill A Mockingbird, Aaron Sorkin’s hit stage adaptation of the Harper Lee novel currently on a lengthy Covid-prompted hiatus, will not return to Broadway after all, and both Sorkin and director Bartlett Sher are blaming the original lead producer Scott Rudin.
According to emails obtained by The New York Times, Sorkin and Sher notified the cast and crew late yesterday about the show’s cancelation. “At the last moment, Scott reinserted himself as producer and for reasons which are, frankly, incomprehensible to us both, he stopped the play from reopening,” Sorkin and Sher wrote, according to The Times.
Rudin, of course, is the Broadway and Hollywood producer who ostensibly stepped away from all of his productions, including Mockingbird, following allegations of bullying and physical abuse of his staff.

According to an online report, The Young and the Restless head writer and executive producer Mal Young has been fired and replaced by Josh Griffith.
Young, best known for his work on British soap opera EastEnders, had a mixed record at Y&R. Despite some wonderful moments and episodes, Young's Y&R was never consistently entertaining, and he often repeated mistakes made by producers of many past canceled soaps. The addition of the rather boring Rosales family this year made some fans complain they were replacing beloved vets like Doug Davidson, who was taken off contract after decades of playing Paul Williams.
Longtime star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) got dragged into the discussion after speaking out. He tweeted the following on Sunday: "To those who are dying to start shit with me, go for it!! But don’t you dare accuse me of 'racist' attitude when I have spent my lifetime going against that evil,...

Unlike the replicants, it seems the world of Blade Runner and Blade Runner: 2049 (the original film’s commercially unsuccessful sequel) is truly destined to live forever. Both in the hearts of fans and across various forms of media as the years continue onward.

There was a mass walkout at the Cannes premiere of von Trier’s The House that Jack Built. From A Clockwork Orange to Driller Killer, cinema has always courted controversy – but could we be entering a more cautious age?
There is a stampede to get into The House That Jack Built and then, not long after, there is a stampede to get out. At the morning screening of the new Lars von Trier film at Cannes, I try to keep tabs on the number of mass walkouts. The first occurs when Matt Dillon’s bug-eyed psychopath sticks a kitchen knife in a breastbone; the second when a serene little boy cuts the leg off a duckling. I think the third might take place during the shooting at a picnic, although, by this point, I confess I am slightly losing track. On screen, Dillon’s character embarks on a lengthy discourse about wine – and,...

By Roger Friedman HollywoodNews.com: It may be a mission impossible, or just some risky business: James Mangold’s “Knight and Day” with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz gets a 500 theater sneak preview this Saturday.
Fox is testing the waters to see what kind of reception “Knight and Day” will get when it opens next Wednesday, June 23rd. The sneak will also help gauge how to handle Cruise and Diaz’s media appearances. Cruise — thanks to his famous scuffle with Matt Lauer–doesn’t do “The Today Show.” As usual, he will be involved in massive promo push at ABC, with a multi-parter on “Gma” and a turn on “Live with Regis and Kelly” on Wednesday.
Doing “sneaks” cuts both ways. It can mean a film is in trouble. It can also mean that the studio is trying to show it’s got a hit on its hands and wants to build word of mouth.

The journalist who was fired because he reviewed a leaked version of movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine is suing his former bosses for $5 million (£3 million).
Fox columnist Roger Friedman lost his job after the scandal earlier this year, in part because the Fox News and X-Men studios 20th Century Fox shares the same parent company, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.
Friedman, who now writes for the Hollywood Reporter, alleges his firing was illegal, and is seeking more than $5 million in lost wages and damages, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
A spokesperson for Fox News tells the L.A. Times the company has yet to be informed of the lawsuit.

A U.S. columnist has lost his job after posting an online review of a leaked copy of Hugh Jackman's new movie X-men Origins: Wolverine.
An incomplete print of the new action film was stolen last week and posted illegally on websites a month ahead of its cinema release.
Film bosses at 20th Century Fox warned that the culprit behind the leak would be prosecuted, after the movie was downloaded an estimated 100,000 times in 24 hours.
And now columnist Roger Friedman has quit his job after reviewing the film for his column on the Fox News website - which shares the same parent company as the movie studio.
In a web posting on Thursday, Friedman joked about watching other illegal downloads and claimed getting the Jackman movie was "so much easier than going out in the rain".
Bosses at Fox News branded his behaviour "reprehensible" and said they "condemned this act categorically".
They added that the company and Friedman "mutually agreed to part ways immediately".

Movie-maker Brian De Palma has sparked outrage by sending out a casting call inviting a teen actress to appear in explicit sex scenes - as a 13-year-old. The director of The Untouchables and producer Art Linson want a "Caucasian girl" who is "young" and "completely comfortable with nudity" to play the role of Linda Martin in The Black Dahlia. The search has yet to find a suitable actress and a new casting call warns agents, "Your previous submissions weren't young enough." However, a casting associate on The Black Dahila tells Fox News correspondent Roger Friedman, "We're not hiring anyone underage. But agents and managers were sending us girls in their 20s who looked too old. We want an 18 or 19-year-old who can play 13 or 14, not an actual 13-year-old."...

Hollywood star Tom Cruise's extravagant plans for the long-awaited Mission Impossible III film are reportedly causing problems for Paramount Studios, who fear the budget will spiral out on control. The actor is producing and reprising his role as agent Ethan Hunt in the sequel to 2000 hit Mission: Impossible II, which is scheduled to begin filming in June 2005. According to Fox News gossip columnist Roger Friedman, Paramount is concerned because no script exists for the movie. Friedman explains, "The rest of it is in Tom's head." In July, Narc film-maker Joe Carnahan quit the project citing "creative differences", and was replaced by first-time movie director JJ Abrams, whose previous credits include directing episodes of TV drama Alias. Despite decided locations in Germany, Belgium, Ghana, Canada and the US, Paramount is reportedly getting increasingly nervous over Cruise's plans to film in 15 countries, raising the budget to $234 million. Friedman says, "I am told that Cruise actually assembled a trailer for it, including credits, voiceovers and clips that he screened for friends as a way to bolster his ego. Trailers are made after a film is completed, not before it's even been shot."...

Michael Jackson has hit back at claims he owes his former business manager $13 million - insisting he never agreed to give him the money. Myung Ho Lee - who used to work for the superstar singer - made headlines around the world this week when he filed a lawsuit against Jackson, accusing him of reneging on an agreement of pay back the money, Lee claims the singer owes him in back pay. Lee even claims to have a document, signed by Jackson when they met in Los Angeles on 14 September, in which the singer admits that he owed Lee nearly $14 million. But, Foxnews.Com correspondent Roger Friedman reports, in a sworn statement included in court papers, the flamboyant singer insists he never signed an agreement last September promising that he would pay Lee the money. Jackson's claim is backed up by his assistant, who says the same thing in another document and another affidavit, by a bodyguard, that swears Jackson was traveling on September 14 and was not even in Los Angeles. Jackson says, "I specifically looked at the signature that appears at the end of this document above my typed name. This is not my signature. I did not sign this document and have never seen it until a few weeks ago. I would never knowingly sign a document that expressly required me to pay over $13 million to Mr. Lee or anyone else, alone in a room and without review and counsel by one or more of my attorneys." In the lawsuit, Lee shed rare light on the superstar's personal finances, claiming he is a "financial time bomb waiting to explode." He claims the 43-year has failed to repay a series of multi-million dollar loans taken out since 1998, and is convinced Jackson will have to sell the rights to The Beatles' back catalogue to repay impatient creditors.
