“City of Dreams,” an upcoming drama about a young Mexican boy who gets smuggled across the border, is lining up some heavy-hitting producers as Roadside Attractions looks to debut the film over Labor Day.
Sean Wolfington, the executive producer of “Sound of Freedom” and most recently “Cabrini”; Luis Fonsi, a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer; and songwriter Linda Perry have joined the producing team for the film. It’s a group that also includes Oscar-nominated “Roma” star Yalitza Aparicio. In addition, Fonsi will record an original song for the film, which will be written by Perry. “City of Dreams,” which marks Mohit Ramchandani’s feature directorial debut, will open in theaters nationwide on Aug. 30.
The film looks at how the young man’s dreams of becoming a soccer star are shattered when he’s smuggled into the U.S. and sold to a sweatshop in downtown Los Angeles.

The end of The Walking Dead: Dead City’s first season was only the beginning of another long zombie saga, and AMC’s announcement of the spinoff’s renewal for a second season only confirms it. The first season ends with Negan imprisoned by The Dama and the leader of New Babylon plotting to come for her methane, meaning a big war is brewing. With so much to look forward to, fans wonder when season 2 of Dead City will premiere and what to expect.
During the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2023, AMC announced that both Dead City and Daryl Dixon would get a second season. “We can’t wait to bring Dead City fans back to the epicenter of Manhattan for more zip-lining action with Maggie and Negan…” Dan McDermott, AMC’s entertainment president, said. Under Elon Musk, Twitter is apparently not fond of paying for things like Google services or the $500 million in severance it reportedly owes to thousands of ex-employees, but hey–it’s got the cash to pay out $5 million to Twitter Blue users like Andrew Tate and Ian Miles Cheong.
Musk announced in February that Twitter would start splitting ad revenue with blue checks. This first payment is everything qualifying Blue users have earned since then.
In a few weeks, X/Twitter will start paying creators for ads served in their replies. First block payment totals $5M.

HBO Max's It Origin story has announced its first four cast members.
Welcome to Derry (working title) has added Taylour Paige (Zola), Jovan Adepo (Babylon), Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), and James Remar (Black Lightning) to the cast, according to Deadline.
Unfortunately, no character details have been revealed, but we're sure more details will arrive when production is complete, and the series approaches its premiere date.
News of the project's existence broke a year ago, and HBO Max formally picked up the project to series in February.
Plot details have also not been revealed, but the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streaming said it will "expand the movies."
The revamped movie franchise amassed close to $1.2 billion across two movies at the global box office, excellent numbers for a horror franchise.
Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti (It and It Chapter Two), and Jason Fuchs (It Chapter Two director) are all on board for the new project.

Now this was a damn good Oscar Night.
The 95th Academy Awards show sure helped dispel the bad odor of the past few years. Watching the In Memoriam interlude last year, as a cheerleader squad honored dead people by singing “Spirit in the Sky,” I said aloud, “This show can’t possibly get any worse.” But saying this on Oscar Night is like a Mel Brooks movie where someone says, “At least it’s not raining.” Reader, it got worse. But this year was the zippiest, most fun Oscar bash in ages.

Tom Cruise will be absent from the 2023 Oscars even though Top Gun: Maverick was nominated for Best Picture.
The Hollywood star was set to miss the movie industry’s biggest night on Sunday as he is shooting Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part II in the UK, according to Et.
Cruise has never won an Oscar and although he was not nominated for Best Actor, the Best Picture award would be his first.
If the movie does take home the award, producer Jerry Bruckheimer will accept it, although Everywhere All At Once remains the favourite to win.
Cruise’s movie is also nominated for Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Film Editing, Sound, Music (Original Song) and Visual Effects.
Glen Powell, who plays Lt Jake “Hangman” Seresin in the movie also won’t be at the awards ceremony tonight.
Meanwhile, Glenn Close had to withdraw from presenting at the awards because of a positive Covid test.

In 1952, Singin’ in the Rain delivered an indelible celluloid portrait of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Released some 70 years later, but during the same tumultuous transition from silent pictures to the ‘Talkies’, Babylon is both a call and response to Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen’s masterpiece, beautifully speaking to the timeless allure of cinema. In a little over three hours, Damien Chazelle masterfully captures the wonder and eccentricities of stardom, and does so with such panache that it’s easy to see Babylon becoming an all-time classic.

These awards are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an organization of around 100 international entertainment journalists. But the group has come under fire over the years for their voting practices. The last straw came in 2021 when a report revealed that the HFPA didn’t have a single Black member. But the group has come under fire over the years for their voting practices. The last straw came in 2021 when a report revealed that the HFPA didn’t have a single Black member. NBC consequently pulled the 2022 telecast, Tom Cruise returned his trophies, and the HFPA set about changing.

Brad Pitt isn’t curbing his lack of enthusiasm for Los Angeles traffic.
The Oscar winner revealed his biggest “pet peeve” to W Magazine, comparing his frustrations to those of Larry David’s character on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
“You know what my pet peeve — my Larry David moment — is? It’s when people are in the passing lane and they’re going as slow as everyone in the regular lanes,” Pitt said of driving in Los Angeles. “They block the whole thing, and you can’t get around. I gotta move. And when I feel trapped, I go all Larry David on ’em.”
He added, “I try to be nicer these days. I might flick a bright. See if that gets anything. I might, like, move over into the rearview mirror a couple of times, see if that does anything.”
While Pitt can relate to “Seinfeld” producer David, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood...

Chris: The Cinematography category has recently skewed heavily towards Best Picture nominees. Years like 2012 - 2015 would often have 2-3 nominees from outside the Best Picture race. However, the past three years have only had one non-Best Picture nominee crack the lineup. Sensing this trend, I'm starting my predictions by looking at the most likely overlaps between Picture and Cinematography this year. Janusz Kaminski is in good position for lensing The Fabelmans. Not only is it the presumed Best Picture frontrunner, but Kaminski is a two-time winner who has recently scored nominations for Spielberg projects like West Side Story, Lincoln and War Horse.
Bigger is often better, so I'm considering the other epics in the Best Picture race. Even with mixed reactions, Babylon is a large beast and Linus Sandgren...

Who could resist an invitation like this: Twitter owner Elon Musk says comic Kathy Griffin can return to Twitter — but he misspelled her name as “Kathie.”
In a tweet today, Musk wrote, “Kathie Griffin, Jorden Peterson & Babylon Bee have been reinstated.” Lest Griffin feel targeted by the misspelling, right-wing author Peterson actually spells his name Jordan.
Griffin, who was suspended for impersonating Musk in satirical posts, responded to the invitation on Instagram.
“Dear Eilon,” Griffin responded on Instagram. “You f**ked up, fool. I’m going downstairs to my basement of heads. You’re up. Xxoo, The Beheader”
As for Donald Trump’s suspended account, Musk wrote that a “decision has not yet been made.”
The Babylon Bee, a conservative satirical website that lost its posting privileges in March after a transphobic tweet about U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, responded to today’s decision from Musk with: “We’re back.
