Andrew Mark Sewell is an award-winning independent filmmaker and radio drama producer/director.
Sewell's film and radio dramas have won over forty international awards. Film awards include Best Narrative Feature, Palm Springs International Film Festival (2006) for Dan Ireland's "Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont" and Best Feature Film, Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards (2016) for Paul Kimball's noir thriller "Exit Thread".
Andrew's name has become synonymous with a new wave of cinematic sounding audio drama and recently won 'Best Drama & Fiction Producer' at the Audio Production Awards 2022 (also a nominee in 2015 and 2017). Other awards include the prestigious NYC International Radio Program 'Best Director' Award for "Dan Dare" (BBC Radio 4 Extra); Isaac Asimov's "I, Robot" (BBC Radio 4) and "The Effect" (Audible). Best known for the re-imagining of comic-strip space hero Dan Dare and cult BBC television series "Blake's 7", more recently Sewell was the series producer for Audible Originals major docudrama series about the history of "The Space Race" and for BBC Radio 4 the much-praised modern retelling of the Mahabharata - "Mahabharata Now" - dramatised as a gripping family epic set in modern day Mumbai.
Sewell's numerous BBC Radio credits include the long-running "Blake's 7" series, based on the cult BBC sci-fi series, starring Derek Riddell, Daniela Nardini and Colin Salmon, "Venna's Planet" starring Amelia Tyler, Sally Knyvette and Caroline Munro, based on Robin Evans' graphic novel series, and the critically acclaimed "Dan Dare" audio adventures, based on the popular 1950s Eagle comic strips, starring Ed Stoppard, Heida Reed, Geoff McGivern and Raad Rawi. Other notable BBC Radio 4 dramatisations include Isaac Asimov's "I, Robot" starring Hermione Norris and Brendan Coyle; Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles" starring Derek Jacobi and Hayley Atwell; and Sumia Sukkar's poignant "The Boy from Aleppo who Painted the War" set against the background of the Syrian conflict. Most recently Sewell produced/directed the court room drama "Barred" (BBC Radio 4) starring Kerri McLean, Susannah Harker and Andrew Lancel and for Audible Originals the docudrama series revealing the untold story of "The Space Race" narrated by Kate Mulgrew, along with a new psychological sci-fi thriller series,"The Effect" starring Juliet Aubrey.
His indie film producer credits include Dan Ireland's award-winning "Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont", starring Dame Joan Plowright and Rupert Friend (winner, Best Actress, Joan Plowright, AARP Movies for Grownup Awards, 2006). Sewell has also produced the independent films of Canadian filmmaker Paul Kimball, "The Cuckoo in the Clock", "Roundabout", the multi-award winning noir thriller "Exit Thread" starring Hilary Connell, Robert G. Slade and Crystal Allen and their latest collaboration, "The Colour of Spring" starring Alexa Morden and Jamie Muscato.
Current indie film projects include "Marriage Bureau" based on the stage play written by Richard Kurti (Going Postal, Sherlock Holmes & The Baker Street Irregulars) with producers Laura Rista (Lovelace and Oscar nominated, Margin Call) and Bronwyn Cornelius (Greencard Warriors, Widow's Walk) whose film 'Clemency' won the Sundance Film Festival (2019) U.S. Grand Jury Prize. Sewell has also producing the horrific crime thriller "Kill Everything" with Ed Polgrady, the producer of "The Wretched" (#1 movie in America for 6 weeks straight 2020) and "Feed Me" (which had its world premiere at LA's Beyond Fest in 2022).
