Jaya Chakrabarti
Chakrabarti is originally from Watford before moving to Bristol. Chakrabarti runs the digital agency Nameless with her husband Stuart Gallemore, is President of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, a board member of Home Office Transparency in Supply Chains MSSIG (Modern Slavery Strategy & Implementation Group), and chaired the successful campaign to appoint a Mayor of Bristol in 2012.
Chakrabarti chaired a local democracy organisation, Bristol Manifesto between 2012 and 2016. She is also an honorary Research Fellow with the Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science at University College London. Her B Corp social enterprise, Semantrica Ltd, campaigns against modern slavery in supply chains using open data, AI and machine learning technologies. As CEO of the Transparency in the Supply Chains Report (TISCreport), a public database of company compliance with human rights legislation including anti-slavery, anti-corruption and anti-exploitation laws, Chakrabarti has been quoted regularly on issues faced by companies complying with these laws and the effectiveness of Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act. She is also CEO of projectvana.org, an afforestation-with-data platform and application to increase afforestation on corporately owned land.
Chakrabarti served on the Board of Bristol's Watershed Media Centre until 2015, served as a member of OFCOM's Consumer Panel from 2012 to 2018, and is a Business Fellow with the University of the West of England.
Chakrabarti was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2014 Birthday Honours, for "services to creative digital industries and the community in Bristol".
