SXSW began in 1987 as a music festival, and in 1994, it expanded to become one of film’s great showcases. Now the Austin event is growing again. Beginning in March 2014, SXSW will include SXSports, a slate of film screenings and panel discussions that will revolve around the world of sports and sports media. Grantland’s Bill Simmons and 538′s Nate Silver, two of Espn’s most visible and influential voices, will meet to discuss Media & The Personal Brand for one of the new program’s highest-profile events.

HollywoodNews.com: Kanye West has some new legal problems on his hands, but the matter is from a situation that occurred some time ago.
West is reportedly being sued by a photographer who claims he was assaulted in 2008 by West’s security team, states PopEater. Michael Vasquez claims that West and his team injured him in the incident.
While a police report was originally filed, the matter was reportedly thrown out as the “complaint was unfounded.” Now, the photographer is just seeking compensation for the suffering he claims he went through because of the alleged assault.
Do you think Kanye West will have to pay anything?

A photographer has brought a new lawsuit against Kanye West after reportedly sustaining injuries from a scuffle with the rapper's security team almost three years ago.
Michael Vasquez claims that the assault took place during a May 2008 party in New York. West was on hand to perform at the event, during which Vasquez claims that "his agents, servants and/or employees acting in the course and within the scope of their employment, detained and/or threatened and/or caused plaintiff to suffer injuries."...

Kanye West attacked a photographer again, you ask? Not exactly. Photographer Michael Vasquez just sued Kanye for allegedly beating him up (with a little help from his security), but the incident actually went down quite a while ago. How long ago, you ask? May 2008, when Kanye performed at a Casio Anniversary party. That’s two and a half years! Dude wasn’t even abusing auto-tune yet! How did this guy stay quiet when Kanye was arrested for smashing a camera a few months later?
According to the suit, West followed his performance (which featured topless women wearing space helmets) by joining his goons in a little paparazzi beatdown, causing “physical, mental and emotional illness” for Vasquez. “His agents, servants and/or employees acting in the course and within the scope of their employment, detained and/or threatened and/or caused plaintiff to suffer injuries.” The pap’s lawyer wouldn’t comment on the delay,...

The 16th annual San Antonio Film Festival, which runs June 23-27, is truly a great combination of celebrating local talent and international cinema, screening films produced in Texas to ones produced in Europe, South America and the Middle East.
There’s also a distinct flavor of socially aware fictional narratives and documentaries, including films about Tibetan refugees, migrant workers, the 2008 Presidential election, alcoholism and genocide. But, that’s not to say the fest is a totally serious affair as there’s also several genre films about the World Cup, sheep rustlers, dancers, crooks and other ne’er-do-wells. It looks like a fun mix.
The full lineup of films is below. The way the festival runs is that films screen in blocks in three different theaters. A “block” of films will generally contain a feature or two (feature = film that is 50 mins. or more), plus several shorts. In the lineup I have up,...
