“I’m home!” Lauryn Hill bellowed to the packed crowd at Newark’s Prudential Center. Her DJ, who performs as DJ Reborn, had properly set the tone for the night with an extended-minute medley of Nineties hits — though they didn’t need much of a primer. The crowd was predominantly filled with spectators who looked like they were in Hill and the Fugees’ age bracket and had experienced the wonder of 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in real-time.

Allen Iverson is one of the NBA’s most revered figures from the early-to-mid 2000s, thanks partly to his miraculous run to the NBA Finals with his Philadelphia 76ers back in 2001. Unfortunately for Iverson, his sheer talent was not enough to overcome Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Still, the ride was one of the most memorable championship pursuits in modern history. NBA TV will premiere a new documentary on that Sixers team titled “Everything But the Chip: the 2001 76ers” on Wednesday, May 31 at 8 p.m. Et. You can watch NBA TV with a subscription to Sling TV. Jay will headline and curate Budweiser Made in America music festival over Labor Day weekend.

Philadelphia — Jay-z once bragged in song that he beat his assault charges "like Rocky." Well, it's been more than a decade since, and Hov — the multiplatinum mogul who remains atop music's food chain — has done more than simply beat the charge.
On Monday morning (May 14), rap's most magnetic man drew a crowd of reporters and media types to the very steps that the fictional boxer Rocky has made famous. Standing triumphantly at the peak of the staircase of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Hov and Philly Mayor Michael Nutter announced yet another prolific Jay-venture: Budweiser Made in America, a two-day music festival in Philadelphia, this Labor Day weekend.

Benjamin McKenzie has his TV drama Southland to thank for helping him escape a speeding ticket, after a cop recognised him from his role as a police officer on the show.
The actor was stopped by officers in Los Angeles and feared the patrolman who pulled his vehicle over would use the opportunity to punish him for his breakthrough part on teen drama, The O.C.
But McKenzie breathed a sigh of relief when he was let off with just a warning - thanks to his role as an Lapd patrol officer in Southland.
The star tells U.S. talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, "We're driving back on the 10 Freeway and I'm having a little bit of a fight with my girlfriend, and I'm not really paying attention to the road. Sure enough, a cop pulls up behind me.
"Then I hear, 'Are you who I think you are?' Immediately two thoughts occur to me: This could be either really good, or really bad. Really good if it's Southland, right? If he recognises me from Southland because (it's about) law enforcement, he'll probably love this. If it's The O.C., he's gonna give me a ticket, he might put me in jail - who knows?
"So again (he asks), 'Are you who I think you are?' I say, 'Yes sir. Southland?' He goes, 'Alright... Watch your speed,' and gives me back my licence!"...

Hov was only supposed to contribute an ad-lib, but he and Beanie Sigel ended up dropping verses, Free recalls on 'RapFix Live.'

Freeway has quite a few gems in his catalog, one being the Jay-z and Beanie Sigel-assisted single "What We Do" from his 2003 debut, Philadelphia Freeway. The trio trade vivid verses filled with sarcastic regret over a Just Blaze-produced soul beat.
While the track remains a fan favorite, Free admitted on Wednesday's "RapFix Live" that he originally planned for the song to be a solo affair. Freeway recalled recording the track at Roc-a-Fella's Bassline Studios in New York City. On any given night, the entire Roc roster would be milling about the studio, and the bearded Mc often sought musical advice from his labelmates.
"It was always that family vibe that they said was around.

Roc-a-Fella Records was once one of the most storied labels and rap crews in the business. Under the guidance of Jay-z, Damon Dash and Kareem "Burke" Biggs, artists like Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Cam'ron, Memphis Bleek and Freeway were able to carve out careers for themselves that would carry on even after the label disbanded.
On Wednesday's "RapFix Live" with host Sway, Free discussed the last days of the Roc, the separation that existed between the record label's subdivisions and how he was able to bounce back.
"At one point in time we were a family. The whole thing about Roc-a-Fella that they pride themselves on is the family structure," Freeway said of the label that was...

After celebrating the one-year anniversary of "RapFix Live" in grand fashion, MTV News' live hip-hop show returns for year two with Freeway on Wednesday.
Last week, Lloyd Banks, Maino, Diplomats capo Jim Jones, Consequence, the Outlawz, Reek Da Villian, Superstar Jay and DJ Love Dinero all crashed the couch and toasted to "RapFix Live" and the year that was. Now, Philadelphia Mc Freeway will set off year two. In 2003, Free dropped his debut album on Roc-a-Fella Records and, in the label's heyday, stood as one of the Roc's most loyal soldiers. Through his career, Philly Freezer has earned a rep as one of the game's most-skilled spitters, going head-to-head with rappers like Cassidy and Jaz-o.

As far as rap crews go, Philadelphia's State Property were emerging as one of hip-hop's most promising collectives until they were torn apart by business tiffs and legal drama.
Signed to Roc-a-Fella Records, State Property and group leader Beanie Sigel lost steam after label co-CEOs Jay-z and Damon Dash parted ways and Beans went on to serve a 10-month stint in prison that ended in 2005. But this past weekend, Sp reunited onstage in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a show that Beanie said brought tears to his eyes.
"The whole State Property was there, everybody: Chris, Neef, Oschino, Sparks, Freeway, Peedi Crack and me, all seven of us. That was love," Sigel said during his visit to "RapFix Live" on Wednesday.

Nick Cassvetes likes drugs. Or at least making movies about them. The filmmaker, who previously wrote the cocaine epic, Blow, directed both drug-centric films She’s So Lovely and Alpha Dog, and is currently in production with Yellow, (Wild Bunch are selling it at the Efm) the not-unlike his father’s A Woman Under the Influence, which centers around a young female with a drug habit, has been inked to direct a new biopic about the notorious drug dealer “Freeway” Rick Ross, as reported by Reuters and confirmed by both Cassavetes and Ross. Though he signed on to write the untitled screenplay this past June, Cassavetes only agreed to direct it last month. This also comes on the heels of news that The Notebook helmer has shown interest in the high-profile John Gotti biopic. Spotted the trend yet? Gist: Not to be confused with the rapper Rick Ross, who actually...

Disney is planning to build a 12-stage production facility at its Golden Oak Ranch in the Santa Clarita Valley to serve primarily the needs of ABC Studios.
Disney and ABC Studios have filed applications with Los Angeles County for Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch, a high-tech soundstage and production complex to be built in the western tip of the Golden Oak Ranch, off the 14 Freeway.
The facility, which would include six pairs of soundstages as well as offices, production shops and storage, would take up 56 acres of the Golden Oak Ranch's 890 acres.
Disney has only two soundstage facilities, one on the Mouse House lot, which has virtually no usable outdoor space, and one at Prospect Studios.
As a result, ABC Studios' 14 locally produced series are spread over nine lots, and those filmed at Disney Studios frequently have to go out for location shoots.
