Adam Sandler's latest Netflix comedy is a family affair. While fans of the comedian are familiar with his wife, Jackie Sandler, appearing in many of his movies in small roles, when it comes to the upcoming "You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah," it's his daughters, Sunny and Sadie, who take center stage.
The new movie follows lifelong best friends Stacy (Sunny) and Lydia (Samantha Lorraine), two 12-year-olds determined to throw the best bat mitzvahs to ensure their adult lives start with a bang. But when a popular boy, Andy Goldfarb (Dylan Hoffman), comes between them, can their friendship and carefully laid party plans survive Hebrew school drama? Fans of Adam will get to see the comedian play his real-life daughters' dad in the movie and likely offer tons of humorous - yet sage - fatherly advice as all the teenage chaos and drama ensues around him.

It’s been a week (ish) since I hopped behind the wheel of a Porsche for the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Porsche Driving Experience. The day was beyond exciting. And it was a thrilling and inventive way to promote the franchise sequel. Starring Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Velez, and Dean Scott Vazquez. It also features an impressive cast of actors giving voice to the actual Transformers themselves. The talent includes Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, and a scene-stealing Pete Davidson.
At the event, we spoke with the film’s director, Steven Caple Jr., and second unit director, James Madigan. While at an event at the Porsche Driving Experience, they discussed the car’s connection with the film. James and Steven also talked about the casting of Pete Davidson and matching him with the vehicle in question. The two also opened up about just how...

Earth becomes a battlefield for more than just the Autobots and Decepticons in the latest installment in the long-running “Transformers” motion picture series, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”
The film tells the story of the Autobots on Earth, led by Optimus Prime, as they face yet another world-ending terror in the year 1994. When it’s clear that the Autobots can’t do it alone, they team up with the Maximals, a new, animalistic faction of Transformers, in order to save Earth once again.
“Transformer: Rise of the Beasts” stars Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Velez, and Dean Scott Vazquez. It currently has a 54% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but shoots up to 88% on the audience score. This puts it right in line with the other films in the series, known mostly as big, silly action films that won’t — and don’t want to — make for the next “Citizen Kane” or “The Godfather.

Destry Allyn Spielberg’s directorial feature debut “Don’t Feed the Children,” which stars “Downton Abbey’s” Michelle Dockery, has added three new, young actors to its central cast.
Joshuah Melnick, Emma Meisel and Dean Scott Vazquez are set to join Dockery in the upcoming film, which was written by Paul Bertino, about a viral outbreak that affects only adults.
Following the pandemic, “a group of orphans head south in search of a new life, only to find themselves at the mercy of a deranged woman harboring a dangerous secret,” reads the logline.
The film is set to start shooting next month in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Melnick has appeared in “Saint X” and “Tesla” while Meisel has had roles in “Doogie Kamealohla, M.D.” and “American Horror Story: 1984.”

To paraphrase Dan Olson’s excellent Nft video essay Line Goes Up, we’re going to have to deal with a lot of vocabulary and a lot of complexity in this review. Some of it will fill some of you with a nostalgic glow and some of it will sound like white noise and make your head hurt. What you do need to know is that you don’t need to know or care about any of it. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is going to rock on regardless so you might as well enjoy the ride.

The big news about the new Transformers movie (not a sentence I envisioned writing while attending journalism school) is that this seventh installment features the first appearance of the Maximals on the big screen. Whether that information means anything to you or not will determine if you’re the target audience for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, a de facto sequel to 2018’s Bumblebee that features enough rock ‘em, sock ‘em robot action to thrill the faithful while showcasing appealing performances by Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback as the token humans on hand.
The story begins in New York City circa 1994, providing plenty of opportunity for the soundtrack inclusion of classic ‘90s-era hip-hop cuts to complement the thundering score by Jongnic “Jb” Bontemps. We’re introduced to Noah (Ramos, In the Heights), a former Army private and tech wiz trying to make ends meet by setting up illegal cable boxes for his friends.

In the world of action cinema, the Transformers series has always been a cinematic spectacle to behold. The early “Transformers” films — in fact, just about all the “Transformers” films — were two things at once. They were industrial showroom expos of chop-shop magicianship, with cars and trucks and motorcycles turning themselves inside out, their guts flipping as if a trash compactor had exploded into bits and pieces, only to reassemble themselves into towering robots. The spectacle of those gigantic shape-shifting droids is something that I, more than a lot of critics, always found to be fun. But, of course, the “Transformers” movies were also unrestrained pileups of sheer Michael Bay-ness — kiddie diversion on processed steroids. The plots sprawled all over the place yet somehow never mattered; the films went on way too long; the endless clashing titans made you yearn for the human nuance of a “Godzilla” movie.

The Robots in Disguise return to theaters with a new mission the weekend of June 9, and analysts are already crunching numbers for the film’s summertime debut. According to Hollywood trend watchers and number hounds, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could make $68M to $70M in its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada.
That number is impressive after 2018’s Bumblebee opened to $21.6M in the domestic market, while Transformers: The Last Knight did $44.6M over a $68.4M Wednesday through Sunday window. If Transformers: Rise of the Beasts performs as expected, the action-packed installment inspired by a nostalgic property will be another win for the recovering box office. For those keeping track, Fast X is racing toward a $60M debut, with Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid swimming toward $110M. Elsewhere, Spider-Man: Acorss the Spider-Verse could web up $80M, setting the summer box office on fire.

“Uh, he eats planets,” responds Pete Davidson’s Autobot Mirage. “So way bigger than the planet.”
The trailer for the action film — the seventh in the “Transformers” series and a direct sequel to “Bumblebee” — also showcases new Autobot allies called the Maximals.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts: Newest trailer shows an all-out war as Unicron descends upon Earth
The saga of the robots in disguise continues as Paramount drops the newest trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. There’s certainly more than meets the eye with this installment as it sees the introduction of the popular Unicron villain from the original cartoon. Unicron was also featured in the 1986 movie, Transformers: The Motion Picture. Fans of the series Beast Wars, which took place around the time frame that serves as the setting of this film, and featured animal incarnations of the Autobots and Decepticons, will be excited to see more peeks at the Maximals as an all-out war features a number of characters from the Autobots and Maximals fight side-by-side.
The official synopsis from Paramount reads,
“Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a...

Headey does her best in a dull, cliched slog that is part Tarantino, part Cassavetes, but is not up to either
What a disappointing vehicle this is for Games of Thrones star Lena Headey: a ropey, derivative thriller squandering all her onscreen smoulder and that dangerous smile that, as Cersei Lannister, had them quaking in terror. Here she plays a stripper called Gypsy who hates kids but goes on the run from the mob with an orphan. It’s a film that serves up undercooked chunks of Tarantino with a splat of John Cassavetes’ Gloria on the side.
Nine Bullets begins on the night Gypsy retires from exotic dancing – so just in time for a good perv of her wearing gold nipple covers. Gypsy has written a memoir about her life as a stripper and landed a life-changing publishing deal. But just as she’s about to drive off into a new life,...

Nine Bullets, eh? We’ve all seen this film before. Well, you will have if you like a bit of action and some mindless car chases round the country, followed by some mindless shootings as the protagonists point guns at one another and go bang until there is only one left. All of the tropes!
Including Sam (Dean Scott Vazquez), a young boy who is left orphaned after the local crime syndicate off his father. The latter, of course, just happened to be some sort of an accountant for aforementioned syndicate, until he derelicted his duty. So, he kinda deserved it.
Then there is the friendly stranger, Gypsy (Lena Headey), a woman on her way from trading in a mis-spent life, culminating in burlesque dancing at the local seedy joint, for best-selling authordom.
The latter is, as we have come to expect – and as she admits further down the plot – 'broken'.

As I watched 9 Bullets the plot seemed overly familiar, it wasn’t billed as a remake of anything but it seemed very familiar. Then it hit me, Gloria, a film John Cassavetes made in 1980, and remade by Sidney Lumet in 1999. Both involve a tough woman who has to go on the run with a young boy wanted by the mobsters who killed his parents. In Gloria he has a book with incriminating information, in this film, it’s a laptop. In both films, the mob boss is her ex and as a name, Gypsy isn’t that far from Gloria either.
I wasn’t surprised to see that it was one of a slew of films writer/director Gigi Gaston cited as an influence on 9 Bullets.
