March 17, 1951 was a great day in history, because that the day Kurt Russell entered the world. And while he would go on to become one of the biggest icons of the eighties and nineties, many folks don’t know that Russell started as a child star for Disney, even acting opposite his future life partner Goldie Hawn in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968). From the sixties into the seventies, he starred in Disney flicks like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), but as the studio’s movies started to flop and Russell got older, a change of pace was needed. Arguably, Russell’s career took off when he began working with director John Carpenter, with the first movie being 1979’s TV movie Elvis, but what are Kurt Russell’s best movies? To celebrate his 73rd birthday, let’s dig into them here.

Along with Harrison Ford’s iconic character’s exploits cracking whips, globetrotting, wearing a fedora and leather jacket regardless of climate, and — we cannot emphasize this enough — punching Nazis, what turned audiences into voracious fan of Indiana Jones is how the treasure hunter would pursue artifacts that belong in a museum (preferably a museum in the area whence the artifact originated).
What we love about Indiana Jones is how the franchise tapped into real-world archaeological discoveries and mysterious artifacts. That tradition absolutely continues with Ford’s fifth and final outing as the adventurer in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Here are a few aspects of Indy’s pursuits of fortune and glory that are part fact and part fiction.

Before his bonkers space movie "Moonfall," Roland Emmerich made a tongue-in-cheek sci-fi flick named "Stargate," whose plot centered around extraterrestrials laying the foundation for human civilization. When "Stargate" hit theaters in 1994, critics tore Emmerich's sci-fi adventure film to shreds, criticizing it for its consistently corny tone and underbaked storyline. On the box-office front, "Stargate" performed considerably well, and went on to become Emmerich's breakthrough film, which eventually led to the culturally relevant, well-received "Independence Day." Despite the film's inconsistent track record, "Stargate" still holds up as a curious, enjoyable entry in Emmerich's filmography, as several aspects of the film stand out, corniness notwithstanding.
The film opens with an extremely cliché excavation montage and transitions to linguist and Egyptologist Daniel Jackson (James Spader) being offered a job to translate hieroglyphics on cover stones unearthed in Giza. While Daniel is able to solve the puzzle moments after his involvement in the top-secret project,...

No, there is no curse attached to the roughly 3,300-year-old tomb of King Tutankhamun (aka King Tut), discovered in Egypt’s monument-heavy Valley of the Kings a century ago this month. The “Boy King” was buried there along with beautiful murals, pottery, decorated walking sticks, and a treasure in gold objects, including the stunning funerary mask (right) that incited Tut mania. The PBS documentary Tutankhamun: Allies & Enemies goes beyond the glitz to investigate who Tutankhamun really was, what he looked like and how he died, with Egyptologists Dr. Yasmine El Shazly and Mahmoud Rashad as your guides to tombs, ancient temples, and museums around their country. Here’s some of the most interesting takeaways from the two-hour doc. (Credit: PBS) His Mother’s Identity Is in Dispute While his father was definitely King Akhenaten, according to these ancient-Egypt experts, the young king’s mom seems to be one of his father’s favorite wives,...

I was still dressed as a mummy when I sat down to watch TV after trick-or-treating on Halloween night in 1992. I was a skinny lad, so binding my limbs tightly in bandages made me look more like a weird spindly white insect than King Tut. Self-conscious of this, I wore my Adidas bench coat over the costume, which completely ruined the effect.
I couldn't tell you what my costume was 12 months earlier or the following year, but Halloween of '92 remains so clear in my mind because that was the night of "Ghostwatch." I loved anything related to the supernatural, so I just couldn't wait: The BBC was conducting a live paranormal investigation into poltergeist activity! It was a big event heavily publicized in the run-up to Halloween, and 11 million viewers tuned in that night. The next day the whole country was talking about it.

There are a lot of potentially problematic elements in "Game of Thrones" and its spin-off series, "House of the Dragon," but perhaps the ickiest of them all is the rampant incest. The Targaryen dynasty is rife with cosanguinity, which is a fancy word for inbreeding, and the practice is clearly still in fashion in "House of the Dragon," as King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Queen Aemma Arryn (Sian Brooke) are first cousins. They share a set of Targaryen grandparents, Jaehaerys I and his sister-wife Alysanne, so they both have some of that lovely double-dragon bloodline going on. Fans of the George R.R. Martin novel that "House of the Dragon" is based on know that the married cousins are not the last incestuous relationship in the story, because Targaryens are really all about keeping it in the family.
