He joined the film business in 1919 and in his first year he created the set for "Die Sumpfhanne" (1919) and "Der Tintenfischclub" (1919).
The production designer Julian Ballenstedt first studied architecture and he made first practical experiences on a construction side.
As an architect he realised numerous buildings like hotels, factories, villas and apartment buildings.
His last cinematical works came in the silent film era of the 20s. Afterwards he retired from the film business and concentrated again to his profession as an architect.
