Leaders of the Israeli cyber intelligence firm Cognyte this February celebrated their first day of trading on Nasdaq by ringing the stock exchange’s opening bell. In remarks beamed across a giant screen in New York’s Times Square, CEO Elad Sharon celebrated his company’s success, including nearly half a billion dollars in annual revenues, 2,000 employees around the world, and 1,000 clients in 100 countries — including the U.S. Department of Justice. Sharon also touted Cognyte’s virtue, claiming it provided governments and businesses the tools they need to fight terrorism and stop crime.

San Francisco, March 25 (Ians) Facebook has taken tough action against China-based hackers who abused its platform to target activists, journalists and dissidents predominantly among the Uyghur community.
The Facebook threat intelligence analysts disabled the accounts of a group of hackers in China known as "Earth Empusa" or "Evil Eye", disrupting their ability to use their infrastructure to abuse its platform, distribute malware and hack people's accounts across the Internet.
The investigation and malware analysis found that Beijing Best United Technology Co., Ltd. (Best Lh) and Dalian 9Rush Technology Co., Ltd. (9Rush), two Chinese companies, are the developers behind some of the Android tooling deployed by this group.
"They targeted activists, journalists and dissidents predominantly among Uyghurs from Xinjiang in China primarily living abroad in Turkey, Kazakhstan, the United States, Syria, Australia, Canada and other countries," Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Security Policy at Facebook, said in a statement late on Wednesday.

New Delhi, Dec 28 (Ians) Facing various probes over data privacy and security, Facebook will provide new options in 2021 to users to safeguard their information, like hardware security tokens along with expanding its Protect programme to more accounts.
Facebook's head of security policy Nathaniel Gleicher told Axios that the social network plans to roll out mobile support for hardware security tokens for users in 2021.
The security keys are advised for high-profile accounts but from next year onwards, these will be available for any account holder.
"Users will be able to buy the tokens from various retailers in-person and online, and then will be able to register them with Facebook," according to the report.
The company will also expand its Facebook Protect security programme to more types of accounts next year, like journalists, human rights defenders and celebrities, and "also to users in countries with upcoming major elections".

Twitter said Monday that it has suspended 936 accounts it said originated from within state-backed operations in China designed to spread disinformation related to the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. Facebook, meanwhile, said that based on its own investigation it removed several pages, groups and accounts for similar behavior, saying its investigation also found links to individuals associated with the Chinese government.
“Overall, these accounts were deliberately and specifically attempting to sow political discord in Hong Kong, including undermining the legitimacy and political positions of the protest movement on the ground,” Twitter said in a blog post.
It added that the accounts were part of a larger network of about 200,000 that were “proactively suspended before they were substantially active on the service.”
