“Nope” is, maybe more than anything else, a movie about making movies.
Sure, it’s ostensibly about a brother (played by Daniel Kaluuya) and a sister (played by Keke Palmer), reeling from the mysterious death of their father while trying to keep their family business afloat and — oh yeah, being menaced by a flying saucer hiding in a cloud outside their farmhouse. But the family are the descendants of a Black man who starred in the first moving images, their family business is horse wrangling for movies, and it says something that they aren’t trying to destroy or report the UFO that has been hoving around their property; they’re trying to capture it on camera.
And that’s just one layer to this uniquely satisfying summer blockbuster. Their ranch is also next door to a Wild West theme park, Jupiter’s Claim. Owned by Steven Yeun’s character,...

When Jordan Peele’s upcoming horror epic “Nope” opens later this month, it will have something no other film ever has: an attraction that’s part of the world-famous Universal Studios Backlot Tour, opening on the same day.
The Jupiter’s Claim set from the movie will be accessible beginning July 22, the same day “Nope” arrives in theaters nationwide. It’s the first time that a Studio Tour attraction has opened day-and-date with a movie release and will now become a part of the storied tour, alongside the crashed airplane from Steven Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds,” the Bates Motel from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” and the Courthouse Square from Robert Zemeckis’ “Back to the Future” (and countless other films). That’s good company.
The Jupiter’s Claim set, a rustic Old West town, was designed by production designer Ruth DeJong. It was disassembled during post-production and shipped to Universal Studios Hollywood.

“Nope,” Jordan Peele’s new sci-fi thriller, doesn’t hit theaters until July 22, but you can visit the official site for the film’s fictional Wild West attraction Jupiter’s Claim right now.
Peele tweeted the link on Friday with no further explanation.
On the home page, there’s a popup message from cartoon character Ricky “Jupe” Park introducing himself as “former child actor and reality TV star of ‘Kid Sheriff’ fame.” That’s the same name as the character Steven Yuen plays. In the latest trailer, the actor tells attendees, “You are going to witness an absolute spectacle,” before shouting, “Are you ready?” as he stands in front of a mysteriously draped object.

Although “Nope” is only three weeks away from hitting theaters, Universal has been keeping a lid on plenty of the details of the film, beyond distributing some intriguing images of unidentified flying objects and ranch living in the movie’s trailers. Now, director Jordan Peele is offering a deeper look at the world of the film, sharing a link to a website for “Jupiter’s Claim,” a fictional institution that appears to be headlined by Steven Yeun’s character.
Peele shared the Jupiter’s Claim website on his Twitter Friday afternoon, pointing users to the domain to peruse the world of “Nope.”

Website visitors are immediately greeted with a salutation from Yeun’s character Ricky “Jupe” Park, who introduces himself as a “former child actor and reality TV star… of ‘Kid Sheriff’ fame.’ A booming hero ballad also begins to play upon visiting the website.
