YouTube is working on more than just its recent ad initiative. Google’s online video site announced it will open its fifth YouTube Space in São Paulo, Brazil. According to YouTube’s official blog, YouTube partnered with Instituto Criar to launch the new Space location, which joins the Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, and recently-opened New York City Spaces. Instituto Criar was founded in 2004 by Luciano Huck as a location for under-privileged students to come learn about filmmaking. This makes the institute an excellent choice to help develop YouTube’s newest Space and introduce professional equipment, training, and connections to Brazil’s YouTube community. YouTube’s blog states Brazilians are “one of the world’s most vibrant YouTube communities,” which is something of an understatement. Many Brazilian YouTubers have over one million subscribers (like Canal Nostalgia), and six of the country’s video creators were in the top 100 gaming channels in September.

Looks like Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher really know how to ring in the new year. The former That '70s Show costars enjoyed each other's company and the first weekend of 2013 in Rio de Janeiro at Mr. Lam restaurant with Brazilian TV presenter Luciano Huck and a few more pals. Quite the change of scenery from where the couple spent the holidays. The duo reportedly traveled together to Kutcher's hometown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in late December, just days after the actor filed for divorce from Demi Moore, citing irreconcilable differences.

There's no shortage of gorgeous surfing documentaries out there. "Rio Breaks," directed by Justin Mitchell and newly available on DVD from Factory 25, aims for something beyond just stunning surf footage, following two boys growing up in one of Rio de Janeiro's most dangerous, drug gang-infested favelas. For Fabio and Naama, surfing provides a temporary escape -- and possibly a permanent one, if they can manage to navigate their way onto the pro circuit.
This week only, you can watch "Rio Breaks" in its entirety below -- if you enjoy the film, consider picking up the DVD.
Here's a statement from director Justin Mitchell:
When I first decided to make a surf film, I knew that I needed to find a story to tell where surfing was the thread rather than the focus. That, and the story couldn't be yet another tale of following pro surfers around the world to...
