1970 Abitur in Hanover. Studied economics in Cologne; graduated in economics in 1974; Dr. rer. pol. in 1977. Research assistant at the University of Cologne from 1974 to 1985, head of the Economics and Information Department of the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e. V., Cologne, from 1985 to 1987. Until 1994 lecturer (foreign trade) at the University of Cologne and author of several books as well as contributions to economic journals and collective works. Major (ret.)
