The new movie on Tubi, Alarmed, written and directed by Matthew Kohnen, might suffer from false advertising. It is being presented as a crime thriller, but in fact, it is more of an action comedy. The story revolves around a couple whose son gets trapped in the house with a girl he had called over. They are then attacked by robbers who haven’t come to steal something but rather to settle a score for an incident related to an alarm system. Hence the title. The lead performers Pooch Hall and Brittany Baker carry most of the film on their shoulders and make for quite an interesting couple that is going through some marriage troubles. Alarmed‘s ending doesn’t quite gel with the whole film, but it makes for an entertaining watch.

Alarmed is the latest original film from the streaming service Tubi. Regular readers may have noticed it’s been a while since I’ve reviewed one of those, and there’s a simple reason for that. Apart from Terror Train, which went to a different service here, they haven’t done anything that caught my attention lately. This sounded like it could be a decent home invasion thriller so I gave it a look.
Janet and Sean are having marital issues. The fact their son Billy got busted for hacking some government networks and is back living with them 24/7 while he serves a sentence under house arrest isn’t helping matters.
They decide they need some time to themselves and plan a weekend getaway.

Matthew Davis, Julianna Robinson Betsy Beutler, Michael Grant Terry, Colby French and Joel McCrary star in what is sure to be a new cult classic in director Matthew Kohnen's Aaah! Zombies!! Here is what director Matthew Kohnen had to say about the making of this film and remember "zombies are people too!".
So who is Matthew Kohnene and what are you all about?
Who is Matthew Kohnen, huh? Well, I was born the son of a poor sharecropper…
No, actually I'm originally from St. Louis, Missouri. Not a small town, more of a Midwest suburban nowhere that was a mixture of upper middle class and poor, me being solidly in the middle of that. I'd love to have one...

This week sees a ton of genre movies coming out on DVD and Blu- Ray. The biggest being Predators, followed up by the remake of the cult classic Night of the Demons, a sequel to Mirrors, and Anniversary editions for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Psycho. Add to that a slew of indie and classic horror and there is a lot to choose from.
Predators
Directed by Nimród Antal
Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. Predators also star Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.
Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

Aaah! Zombies! DVD ArtDirector: Matthew Kohnen.
Writers: Matthew Kohnen and Sean Kohnen.
Aaah! Zombies!! is a Wasted Pictures production from writers Matthew Kohnen and Sean Kohnen. The Los Angeles based Level 33 Entertainment is distributing this "rom-com" (Variety) onto DVD October 19th and this reviewer was laughing out loud at many of the silly, sometimes low-brow, gory jokes. The London Sci-fi Review says of this newest zombie comedy: "you'll laugh so hard, bits of you might just fall off," but much of the best humour comes from the bits falling off the undead characters. Ridiculous, charming, full of great one-liners, Aaah! Zombies!! met this reviewer's expectations for fun and excitement. This is one film whose infected needs spreading.
The film's premise is a little far-fetched, with the local Navy attempting to dump green goo from a failed super-soldier experiment into the local aquarium. You see, the Navy has a bone to...

Let's face it. Horror is an easy genre to create a film for. We did it when I was in high school on a no-string budget and the film (although gawd awful) was still entertaining and you know what, it's probably better than some of the dollar bin dreck out there to this day...
So you take the ease of film making and add that to the fact that people love zombies and whamo, you have the world shooting zombie movies. So for every thousand zombie movies you see only a rare few are true gems. Thus is the case with director Matthew Kohnen's latest horror comedy aptly named, "Aaah! Zombies!!" (two exclamation points).
Starring Matthew Davis, Michael Grant Terry, Colby French, Betsy Beutler, Julianna Robinson, and Joel McCrary, "Aaah! Zombies!!" separates itself from the fray by telling the story from the zombies point of view. Feast on the trailer and poster below.

After “Shaun of the Dead” left its bold and bloody mark on the world, everyone and their second cousin thought they could lense a zombie/comedy with little to no effort on their part. Guess what? They were wrong. Dead wrong. With the exception of “Fido” and, perhaps, “Zombies of Mass Destruction”, movies featuring the undead as comedic props have been extremely lackluster, both in terms of zombie carnage and genuine laughs. Matthew Kohnen’s “Aaah! Zombies!” (aka “Wasting Away”) is hoping to change things a little, and judging from the trailer lurking over yonder, it has the potential to deliver the proverbial goods. The story is nothing spectacular — friends turn into zombies and must fight for survival — but Kohnen’s approach is wholly unique. “Aaah! Zombies!” will gnaw pleasantly on your funny bone on September 28th, 2010.

There's no doubt the horror market is kind of saturated with zombie movies right now, and we have to admit we really don't mind because we love ourselves some undead mayhem, but it can get a bit tiresome. Good thing for us then that every once in a while a flick comes along with a clever spin on things. Enter the upcoming zombie comedy Aaah! Zombies!!

New trailer for a new zombie comedy! New!
The upcoming zombie comedy Aaah! Aaah! Zombies! is a Level 33 Entertainment production that rightfully blends horror with zombie and a little romance. The film will release September 28th and this trailer shows a group of friends turning into "super soldiers" by way of a toxic spill. The laughs unfold as four friends become very strange by accident while seeing life through rose coloured lenses. Plus, have a watch as two zombie characters make out, grotesquely, in this award winning feature (Screamfest Audience Award Winner).
