At 6:30 pm, on-field umpires Paul Wilson and Ruchira Palliyaguruge along with the fourth umpire were doing the inspection, following which the ground was deemed fit to resume play from 6:45 pm.
Before rain intervention, Ravindra Jadeja took a three-wicket haul as India kept Nepal to 178-6 in 37.5 overs in what is also the first-ever men’s Odi between the two teams.
On a pitch that aided spinners more, Nepal put up a much-improved batting display after being skittled out for 104 against Pakistan last week.

Pallekele (Sri Lanka), Sep 4 (Ians) Ravindra Jadeja took a three-wicket haul as India kept Nepal to 178/6 in 37.5 overs before rain caused interruption and led to the entire ground being covered in the Asia Cup Group A match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday.
On a pitch that aided spinners more, Nepal put up a much-improved batting display after being skittled out for 104 against Pakistan last week. Wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh was brilliant in his 58 off 97 balls, laced with eight fours.
Nepal were also aided by some erratic bowling by India and some sloppy work in fielding, leading to catches being dropped and plenty of misfields happening. Jadeja gave India slender control with 3-35 in nine overs while Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur had two and one wicket respectively.
After India elected to bowl first, Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli dropped catches of Kushal Bhurtel and Sheikh on successive deliveries.

Pallekele (Sri Lanka), Sept 1 (Ians) In the cool and serene surroundings of Sri Lanka, fans from around the world will witness another chapter being added to the India-Pakistan rivalry when the two neighbours clash in a Group A match of the Asia Cup at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
In India’s opening match of the Asia Cup, they will be without wicketkeeper-batter K.L. Rahul due to a niggle unrelated to his right thigh injury, which has kept him out of action after May 1 this year. Though they have a like-to-like reserve player in Sanju Samson, it seems that Ishan Kishan could bat in the middle-order to fill in for Rahul’s absence.
Though Kishan hit three consecutive fifties in ODIs against West Indies in July, the top three of Shubman Gill, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been set for a long time. Especially with...

New Delhi, Aug 21 (Ians) Right-handed batter K.L. Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been selected in India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, happening from August 30 to September 17, after recovering in time from a right thigh and back injury respectively.
In a press conference held in New Delhi on Monday, India’s chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar announced the 17-member Asia Cup squad, handing young middle-order left-handed batter Tilak Varma a maiden Odi call-up. Varma has so far been capped in T20Is but is yet to make his Odi debut.
Rahul has been out of action since injuring his right thigh during his team Lucknow Super Giants’ match in Ipl 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1, when he was chasing the ball to stop a boundary in the second over.
It was later revealed on May 5 that Rahul has suffered a significant tear to a tendon in the right thigh and underwent surgery.

Roseau (Dominica), July 13 (Ians) Dropped for the World Test Championship (Wtc) Final at The Oval, Ravichandran Ashwin came up with a strong performance as his record-breaking five-wicket haul helped India bundle out hosts West Indies for a paltry 150 in their first innings in the opening Test match of the series at Windsor Park here.
Ashwin claimed 5-60 in 24.3 overs as he claimed the wickets of West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (20), Tagenarine Chanderpaul (12), Alick Athanaze (47), Alzarri Joseph (4) and Jomel Warrican (1) as swung things India’s way with a brilliant bowling effort after West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first.
This was Ashwin’s 33rd five-wicket haul in an innings in Tests as he helped India take a dominant position in the first Test.

Roseau (Dominica), July 12 (Ians) Debutant left-handed batter Alick Athanaze showed some resistance and was looking like putting a price on his wicket before falling for 47 as India pocketed another session in their kitty by reducing West Indies to 137/8 in 58 overs at Tea on Day 1 of first Test at Windsor Park, here on Wednesday.
After picking four wickets in the first session, India picked four more wickets, two of which were taken by Ravichandran Ashwin, while conceding only 69 runs. The visitors’ are now just two wickets away to bowl out West Indies for a below-par total.
The hosts’ below-par batting effort was caused mainly by some reckless shot selection, including of an assured, calm and composed looking Athanaze. The batters were perishing when trying to attack on deliveries without showing adequate patience, leaving a lot left to be desired.

Roseau (Dominica), July 12 (Ians) Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were among the wickets for India as the visitors pushed West Indies on the backfoot by reducing them to 68/4 in 28 overs at lunch on Day 1 of first Test at Windsor Park, here on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, West Indies openers captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul were solid against fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Jaydev Unadkat. With the ball not providing them much swing, Brathwaite and Chanderpaul were able to get through the first half-hour without any major discomfort.
But Ashwin’s early entry dramatically changed the course of the session. The ace off-spinner began by castling Chanderpaul with a skiddy delivery coming from wide of crease in the 13th over, making him the first Indian bowler and fifth overall to dismiss a father-son duo in Test cricket.

Left-handed batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan are making their Test debuts for India. While Jaiswal will open the batting alongside India captain Rohit Sharma, Kishan will bat in the middle-order and be the wicketkeeper too.
For the West Indies, left-handed batter and local lad Alick Athanaze is making his Test debut.
“Surface is generally dry, but there’s moisture in the first hour. We had a ten-day camp in Antigua. (Brian) Lara (performance mentor) was there, that was good for our young batters. We had seen ourselves in good positions in the last (two Wtc) cycles. What we need is consistency and putting it together. Want the boys to be positive,” said Brathwaite at the toss.

Mumbai, April 25 (Ians) Senior batter Ajinkya Rahane was on Tuesday recalled in India’s 15-member squad for the Icc World Test Championship final against Australia, scheduled to be played at The Oval from June 7 to 11.
The 34-year-old batter has been out of the India team since the Cape Town Test against South Africa last year, after an extended run of low scores, but injuries to key personnel and his own spectacular form in the ongoing Ipl 2023 has helped him make a comeback.
Playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Ipl 2023, Rahane has scored 209 runs in five matches so far, at an average of 52.25 and a strike-rate of 199.04. The right-hander batter also had a decent season for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 campaign, scoring 634 runs at 57.63 including two centuries.
Back in the India squad, Rahane could be a leading contender to take up the No.5 slot vacated by the injury-enforced absence of Shreyas Iyer.

New Delhi, April 11 (Ians) Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that the lack of crucial batting partnerships is hurting five time champions Mumbai Indians, who are yet to open their account in Ipl 2023.
In a battle of lower-placed teams, Delhi Capitals take on Mumbai Indians in their next match of Ipl 2023 at home on Tuesday evening. Both teams are yet to taste a win in the competition and haven’t justified the quality they possess.
“Mi’s biggest problem since last season till date has been the lack of partnerships. Unless you have big partnerships, it is difficult for you to score big. Mi has been seen struggling continuously in this regard. Mi should have built their innings on a short but useful partnership between Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, but they failed,” Gavaskar told Star Sports, the official TV broadcaster of Ipl.

Mumbai, March 17 (Ians) India’s wicketkeeper batter K.L Rahul on Friday credited his batting partner Ravindra Jadeja’s presence in the middle for making things a bit easier as the left-hander’s entry broke the shackles of the Australian bowlers in the first Odi at the Wankhede Stadium here on Friday.
Rahul said the key to batting in such conditions is good footwork and said he played proper cricketing shots as he struck an unbeaten 75 and raised 108 runs for the unfinished sixth wicket partnership as India defeated Australia by five wickets to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Jadeja came up with a superb all-round performance, hitting an unbeaten 45 after claiming 2-46.

New Delhi, Feb 19 (Ians) The national selectors on Sunday retained under-fire opener K.L Rahul for the third and fourth Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series while also retaining middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who was included for the Delhi Test after recovering from an injury, and Jaydev Unadkat, who was released ahead of the second Test to play for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy final,
The decision to retain Rahul was not surprising after skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid expressed their support for the opener.
Since January 2022, Rahul has just one fifty-plus score while his last Test hundred came in December 2021 against South Africa. In the Delhi Test against Australia, Rahul was dismissed for 17 in the first innings and made just one in the chase of 115, coming after making a laborious 20 in Nagpur.

Hyderabad, Jan 18 (Ians) Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has lavished praise on seamer Mohammed Siraj, and confirmed that young batter Ishan Kishan will feature in the upcoming New Zealand Odi series, starting here on Wednesday.
“In terms of Ishan, yeah, he will be batting middle order. I’m glad he could get a run here after that fine knock in Bangladesh,” Rohit said in the pre-game press conference before the first Odi against New Zealand.
Kishan scored a double century opening the batting in his last Odi against Bangladesh, but had to sit out the more recent Odi series against Sri Lanka.
Rohit also heaped praise on Mohammed Siraj, saying: “Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen how well Siraj has fared across all three formats. He has improved his bowling; his line and length have improved. He has especially worked on his outswing. Earlier, he wasn’t that renowned for swing,...
