Xavier Higgs was born on January 29, 1956 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is the second of three children of Deputy David Higgs and classroom teacher Albertha Higgs. Xavier attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida with a degree in Journalism.
After graduation Higgs became a crime beat reporter for the Hollywood Sun-Tattler newspaper in Hollywood, Florida (1977). In 1978 he became a photojournalist at WPLG-TV in Miami, a Post-Newsweek station. In 1979 Xavier transferred to Post-Newsweek's Jacksonville's WJXT-TV station as a photojournalist. However in 1980 he accepted a photojournalist position at WTVJ-TV station in Miami. While at WTVJ he also wrote anchor voice-overs.
In 1985 Xavier took a public relations position with Image Creative International until 1990. He became a classroom teacher in for the Broward County School District. After moving to Los Angeles in 1993 he continued as a classroom teacher for the Pasadena Unified School District and later with the Cecil L. Murray Education Center.
In 1999 he became a media buyer then operations manager for Initiative Media, Inc., Los Angeles.
However in 2002 Xavier returned to his first love journalism. He is a multimedia journalist and producer. His credits include numerous articles for various Los Angeles based newspapers including the Pasadena Star News, Los Angeles Daily News, Whittier Daily News, Los Angeles Sentinel and Pasadena Journal. His other attributes include producer photographer for "Louder Than Rock" and "A Tribute to Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn." He also photographed the cover of civil rights legend Dr. Terrence Roberts book "Lessons from Little Rock."
Xavier lives in Los Angeles with his wife Beverly White. He has a daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter.
