- In 1983, he launched Studio Brussel, VRT's younger radio station. In 1998 he was appointed Studio Brussel's station manager.
- He performed and recorded with innumerable Belgian artists and bands- but also with the likes of Warren Zevon, Chris Spedding, Luka Bloom, Chocolate Genius, Heather Nova and Ian McCullough as a member the house band of the "De Laatste Show" television talk show.
- A trained musician (from chamber music to jazz), Jan Hautekiet works as a pianist/keyboardist as well as composer, arranger and producer.
- In 2002 Jan moves back to his radio roots, as manager of VRT's Radio 1.
- With Patrick Riguelle he developed several projects for the Brosella Festival, first with Derroll Adams, and in 2001 as a tribute to the late singer. In 2006 they played the soundtrack of The Wicker Man for Brosella, with Jacqui McShee and bassist Danny Thompson.
- Jan was also active on tour, dvd and cd with Dutch singer and poet Rick de Leeuw. They released a dvd (2004) and cd (2008) together.
- In 2011, he toured with One Hit Wonders, about artists who had only 1 major success in their career.
- Jan Hautekiet begins his career at the Flemish public broadcaster in 1979 as a producer for Radio 1.
- Most endearing is his collaboration with singer/songwriter/guitarist Patrick Riguelle, leading to the CDs A Minor Thing, Red Harmony and Dielectric Union. In 2005 they produced Chautauqua for Tucker Zimmerman.
