Lily Ward(1891-1979)

English comedienne Lily Ward born in the early 1890's. She could pull many different funny facial expressions, which made
her one of the biggest stars in the Yorkshire film industry. Lily
starred in more than 30 silent short comedies under the direction of
Cecil Birch in 1914-15, making her debut in 'How Winky Whacked the
Germans' starring Reggie Switz as Winky, Lily often starred opposite
her husband Alf Scotty in many 'Scottie' comedies in 1915, she also
starred in her own 'Lily' comedies for the Bamforth Film Co based in
Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. The first World War caused Bamforth Co Ltd
to cease film production at the end of 1915, the Company were never to
return to this field of entertainment with all resources now being
concentrated on postcard production. Lily Ward or Warde moved to the
Pyramid Film Company in late 1915 starring in Leslie Henson comedies
and the 'Jolly' comedies.
