- Ed Vela was born in San Antonio, Texas. He began as an actor at the age of 18 on stage in San Antonio. He later moved to Houston, Texas, where he acted in more stage productions. In 1997, he began writing for the stage winning a few National Playwriting contests for both his full length and short plays. He has several plays and collections published by three different publishers, both in the U.S. and Canada. He moved to the Los Angeles area in 2008, to concentrate on writing screenplays. - And was most recently named Best Sci-Fi Screenplay at the Adbhooture Film Festival. His second screenplay "The Mortality Game" won a Platinum Remi Award from WorldFest Houston in 2015 and was a Semi-Finalist at the Austin Film Festival. It has also more recently won awards from film fests in Toronto, Indiana, Miami and India, as well as winning Best of Fest from the Cordillera Film Festival in Reno, Nevada. He also produced, wrote, directed, and starred in a web series he created that ran from 2012 to 2017: Dad vs. Lad on You Tube. Having spent several years in Los Angeles, Ed returned to Houston in 2014 for job opportunity but continued to churn out Dad vs. Lad webisodes as well as writing, producing and directing several short films. - Ed used to coach football for a youth sports league, as a volunteer, in Houston.
- Ed once visited Dayton, Ohio as a Top Six Finalist in the Dayton Playhouse Future Fest. His sinuses were killing him the whole time, not knowing until he got there that Dayton is known as Sinus Valley by the locals.
- Ed has made his living as a: Substiture Teacher, School Bus Driver, Security Guard, Master Control Operator, Limo Driver, and a Quality Control Manager at an Insurance Company.
