Stars: Maria Leite, Pedro Barão Dias, Joaquim Guerreiro, João Vilas, Mário Oliveira, Clemente Santos, Francisco Afonso Lopes | Written and Directed by Fernando Alle
You know a film has to have a certain quality when it gets picked up for distribution by Troma; and if you’ve seen director Fernando Alle’s previous shorts: Papa Wrestling and Banana Mother***ker, you’ll know what that quality is… sheer creative insanity. And Mutant Blast is no different!
The film tells the story of Maria, a fearless soldier who, after rescuing Ts-347, a man with superhuman strength, is being pursued by a military cell responsible for scientific experiments that created Ts-347 And resulted in a zombie apocalypse. On the way, they meet Pedro, a man with few ambitions and a great hangover (and imagination). Together, they will try to escape to a safe place, but complications cross their paths in the form of a nuclear bomb.

Michael J. Hein of MooDude Films has announced that they’ve won distribution and release of two new films, Spiker and Dead Serious; the first a bloody slasher and the second an oddball horror comedy pitting religious zealotry against gays and vampires.
Spiker is about a singularly large pink-eyed albino who has a nasty fetish for slashing victims to death with railroad spikes. A group of teens decide to camp out at an abandoned house, and, as teens are prone to do, ultimately become prey for this remorseless white haired killing machine. What is it with albinos, anyway? They started out shady with Monsieur Zenith, got a bit darker with Elric of Melniboné, and now here they are flat out pricking teenagers to death with railroad spikes. Next they’ll be running for Senate. Spiker stars Frank Zagarino and David ‘Shark’ Fralick and is due out on DVD everywhere on December 15th,...

We begin with the wackiness that is Minoru Kawasaki, the filmmaker responsible for The Calamari Wrestler and Monster X Strikes Back: Attack the G8 Summit, and the DVD release of his silly and surreal 2005 animal costume slasher/thriller/comedy Executive Koala.
Tamara is just an average Japanese salaryman working for a pickle company except for the fact that he suffers from periodic memory loss, his vanished years earlier, and he happens to be a six-foot tall koala bear. His latest girlfriend is murdered and he becomes the prime suspect. Tamara joins forces with his boss (a white rabbit) and a friendly convenience store clerk (a frog) to prove his innocence.
Synapse Films will be treating us Americans to Executive Koala on November 18th (pre-order it here!), releasing it as part of what they are calling "The Minoru Kawasaki Collection". The other two in the collection, also being released on the 18th,...

Doing my occasional snooping about the internet I stumbled upon the existence of a new slasher flick I was previously unaware of entitled Spiker about a maniac who lays waste to his victims with railroad spikes. The original title of the film was Blood Rails (official site), but the producers have wisely changed it to Spiker which I think we can all agree is more direct to the point.
"A nightmare comes to life, the Spiker is a massive, pink-eyed albino and a maniac killing machine whose physical endurance borders on the fantastic. He escapes from an asylum and returns to the small town he terrorized years before, where he slashed his victims to pieces with railroad spikes and buried the bodies under the train tracks outside of town. When a group of teenagers decide to camp out at an abandoned house they are attacked by the vengeful Spiker and...
