The final season of Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai had been split into three batches of five episodes. The first will premiere on Netflix on 18th July.
When Cobra Kai premiered on YouTube Red back in 2018, few would have guessed quite how popular the show would become. What began as an affectionate, ‘by the fans for the fans’ legacy show grew into a behemoth that has become one of the biggest shows on Netflix.
What makes Cobra Kai so successful is that creators and writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg give Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles of Daniel and Johnny, real character development and story arcs. All while mixing returning legacy characters like John Kreese and Terry Silver with the young cast of karate rivals.
According to Deadline, the synopsis for the sixth and final series reads as follows:

The teaser for the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai depicts white belts practicing, kids in street clothes punching what looks like tennis balls, and Ralph Macchio showing absolutely no shame as he recites the cringe-inducing phrase, “Love the smell of karate in the afternoon.” Despite this, his character, original Karate Kid Daniel Larusso, is able to pull it together long enough to face off with his decades-old nemesis Johnny Lawrence (actor William Zabka) previewing the feud at the heart of the series.

Outside of "strike first, strike hard, no mercy," the Cobra Kai dojo's enduring motto is "Cobra Kai never dies!" That may be true, but the show that brought the Karate Kid story successfully to small screens is ending. We've known since earlier this year that Cobra Kai would be wrapping up, and now Netflix has released a teaser for what promises to be an epic, three-chunk finale stretching across this year and into next. Check it out…
Yes, as with some of the streaming service's other big hits, the final run will, like a karate master breaking boards, be split in three, with the first part landing on 18 July, the second arriving on 28 November and the third on an unspecified date in 2025. And given that the expanded farewell season features 15 episodes, we'd guess five episodes per chunk (but there's no word on that).

The final season of Cobra Kai will be less bingeable than usual. That’s because Netflix is splitting the supersized season six across three release dates.
On Thursday, the streamer released a teaser trailer (below), along with its release strategy for the popular family drama series.
The 15-episode final season will drop Part 1 on July 18, then hold Part 2 until Nov. 28. A third part, dubbed “The Finale Event,” won’t be released until sometime in 2025.
The official description: “Picking up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world championships of karate.”
Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have previously called the decision to end the series “bittersweet” but one that lets them bring Cobra Kai to a close the way they want.

Cobra Kai season 6: Netflix announces premiere dates for 15 episode, 3 part conclusion to the series
Production on the sixth and final season of the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai, a continuation of the Karate Kid film franchise, was delayed several months due to the writers and actors strikes last year – but the extended wait is going to be worth it, because Netflix has just announced that the show is wrapping up with a 15 episode season (previous seasons consisted of 10 episodes), and they’re splitting the episodes up to make it a three part event! As they put it, “The end of a legacy… deserves a Grand Finale.” They’ve also revealed premiere dates: Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1 premieres July 18, 2024. Part 2 premieres November 28, 2024. The Finale Event comes in 2025.
I’m hyped to finally have premiere dates for most of the episodes, because this show has become one of my all-time favorites over the course of the previous five seasons. I grew up on the Karate Kid movies and always enjoyed them,...

And you thought waiting for the back half of a “Stranger Things” season was agonizing. Netflix is splitting the final season of “Cobra Kai,” Season 6, into three parts.
You read that right. Though it has become commonplace for Netflix to divide new seasons of its biggest hits into two parts, this is the first time the streamer has split a season (of any series) into thirds. The next-up example of a hit Netflix original being halved is mere weeks away. The eight-episode “Bridgerton” Season 3 will premiere the first four on May 16 and the back half on June 13.

Renowned cult classics have undoubtedly provided us with several mentor-like figures, but among all, Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid remains the most beloved one. When Cobra Kai returns to Netflix for its sixth and final season, the Karate Kid spinoff plans to expand the Miyagiverse significantly. The teen-focused drama Crane kicked martial arts action fans in the face in 2018, building on the Karate Kid legacy started by Ralph Macchio (Daniel Larusso), William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). No one could have predicted the Miyagiverse would expand the way it has because of Cobra Kai, and now the show’s co-creator, Jon Hurwitz, says fans can expect Season 6 to explore the franchise in exciting ways like never before!
In a thread on Twitter/X, Hurwitz assured fans the final season of the series delivers big surprises, in-depth character flashbacks, and plot elements that expand the Miyagiverse.

Sony‘s untitled Karate Kid film is ready to make Ben Wang‘s heart go pitter-pat after adding Cruel Summer actress Sadie Stanley to the cast. Stanley plays the romantic lead opposite Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in the forthcoming marital arts drama, which also stars Joshua Jackson, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
Plot specifics remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master. With Chan and Macchio both appearing in the film, there’s a chance Wang’s character could train under two teachers. Jonathan Entwistle

The number of actors the Netflix TV series Cobra Kai has brought back to reprise their characters from the Karate Kid films has been very impressive. Not only do you have Ralph Macchio and William Zabka back as Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence, but there’s also Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith as villains John Kreese and Terry Silver, Yuji Okumoto and Sean Kanan as villains-turned-allies Chozen Toguchi and Mike Barnes; Ron Thomas, Rob Garrison, and Tony O’Dell as Johnny’s former Cobra Kai buddies; and appearances by Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills, Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko, and Robyn Lively as Jessica Andrews. They even brought Traci Toguchi back as Yuna, the “Girl Bell Ringer” she played in The Karate Kid Part II. But one actor who might not be returning from the films is Hilary Swank, who played Julie Pierce in the 1994 film The Next Karate Kid.

Netflix will not be moving forward with a second season of “Obliterated,” Variety has confirmed.
Hailing from “Cobra Kai” creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, the comedy followed a special forces team who — after believing they’d thwarted a deadly threat to Las Vegas —celebrates their victory accordingly with a party filled with booze, drugs and sex only to discover that a bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb and save the world.
Shelley Hennig, Nick Zano, Alyson Gorske, C. Thomas Howell, Eugene Kim, Paola Lázaro and Amalia Yoo star.
Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald executive produced “Obliterated” with Dina Hillier from Counterbalance Entertainment. Sony Pictures Television is the studio.
The news comes as Hurwitz and Heald recently teased that he and the team were back at work on the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai.

Rumor has it that Netflix was originally planning to release the sixth and final season of their hit series Cobra Kai, a continuation of the Karate Kid film franchise, this month. The cast and crew were heading into production back in May (Netflix even released some table read footage) – but then the writers strike hit, causing filming to shut down. Then came the actors strike, which made sure it stayed shut down a while longer. But both of those strikes are now over, and cast member Courtney Henggeler has revealed that Cobra Kai season 6 is finally going to start filming / resume production next month!
The folks at Screen Rant took the opportunity to ask Henggeler about Cobra Kai when they crossed paths with her at a red carpet event. When they asked for info on what fans can expect from the new season, Henggeler answered, “I wish I knew. I...

Much like Daniel Larusso went from underdog to All-Valley karate champion, "Cobra Kai" has gone from a legasequel no one asked for or had too much faith in, to one of Netflix's biggest hits. The TV sequel to "Karate Kid" became a shining beacon amidst the fast-decaying YouTube Red streaming platform, offering a thrilling, compelling, and endlessly watchable story with complex characters and a fascinating story of legacy, rivalry, and generational patterns. All of this wrapped in a juicy karate-themed soap opera where everything and everyone revolved around the martial art.
When the show made the jump to Netflix, it became the closest thing to a live-action anime that we've got. Somehow, just like the "John Wick" movies revealed that the entire planet revolves around hitmen, "Cobra Kai" does the same with karate. Gangs are formed around competing dojos, no one seems to call the cops even when houses...

Ted Sarandos has welcomed a resolution to the actors strike to allow his streamer, and Hollywood, to get back to work.

Sarandos reiterated Netflix would spend around $17 billion on programming content in 2024 post-Hollywood strikes, as long as that content spend matched the company’s expansion. “You just have to stay closely aligned to that growth. We think that $17 billion level aligns with our growth. If we surpass that and if we accelerate on that, we’ll revisit that as well,” he argued.

Recently, I was lucky enough to interview Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald about their brand-new Netflix show, Obliterated. The series, which follows a very inebriated Navy Seal team trying to take down a terrorist cell in Vegas, is a hilarious mix of intense action and comedy headed by a terrific cast that includes Nick Zano and Shelley Hennig. Yet, of everyone, the show is all but stolen by eighties legend C. Thomas Howell, who shows up as the group’s somewhat insane bomb expert.
In the show, his character, Haggerty, seems to save the day in the opening action sequence and celebrates by getting – as the title suggests – Obliterated. Yet, while the rest of the team indulges mostly in booze (and some mild drugs), he goes all in anything he can find, winding up comatose for several episodes. Out of all the successful shared universes to come about over the years, the "Karate Kid" franchise might be the most surprising. Also known as the Miyagi-Verse and named in honor of the martial arts maestro Mr. Miyagi, the property kicked off in 1984 with director John G. Avildsen's "The Karate Kid," a rousing sports drama cut from the same cloth as the filmmaker's Best Picture Oscar-winning "Rocky," albeit focused on martial arts rather than boxing. But besides establishing "Wax on, wax off" as a fixture of our pop cultural lexicon, the film also birthed two sequel films, a spinoff film, a reboot film, a live-action legacy sequel show, and even a short-lived, non-canonical '80s cartoon series.
For a long time, however, it was assumed the 2010 "Karate Kid" reboot and the 1984 original existed in different continuities. But no more! Just as the popular "Cobra Kai" series has seen Miyagai's...

Here's a crossover you never knew you needed until now. Decades after the original "The Karate Kid" put star Ralph Macchio on the map and introduced audiences to Pat Morita's beloved Mr. Miyagi, Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith took a crack at remaking the classic in 2010 -- though in a modernized setting and, notably, not portraying the exact same characters from the original. The franchise kept the nostalgia going with Netflix's popular "Cobra Kai" series, which reunited Macchio's Daniel Larusso with William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence. Now, not even the Cobra Kai dojo feels big enough to contain what's coming down the pipeline next.
Sony Pictures breathlessly announced that a new "Karate Kid" movie is officially in the works. But get this: the twist is that both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have been cast and will be "reprising their characters" from the respective franchise films they previously starred in.

It was announced today that Pat E. Johnson, who choreographed the fight scenes for the first four Karate Kid movies, has died at the age of 84.
Pat E. Johnson was a ninth-degree black belt in American Tang Soo Do and also served as vice president of the National Tang Soo Do Congress, which was created by Chuck Norris in 1973. He learned the Korean martial art while serving as a chaplain with the U.S. Army in Korea. Johnson’s niece Colleen Mary Johnson Summerville confirmed the news on Facebook, writing, “It is with a sad heart I’m sharing my Uncle Pat has passed this Sunday morning.”
Johnson held the title of ninth-degree black belt, putting his martial arts skills to use on the set of the beloved coming-of-age film “The Karate Kid” (1984), training actors including Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio. Morita’s Mr. Miyagi trains Macchio’s Daniel Larusso in the art of karate after bullies begin antagonizing him at his new school in Los Angeles.
Johnson taught Macchio the now-iconic crane kick which won Daniel the championship at the All Valley karate tournament in the first film. He also acted as referee in the film.

Netflix is promising a wild night thanks to the first trailer for “Obliterated,” the latest show from “Cobra Kai” creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald. All eight of the hourlong episodes will be able to stream starting November 30.
Described as a high octane Vegas adventure, “Obliterated” follows an elite special forces team that thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. At least, that’s what they think. As they’re halfway through their celebratory binge, they learn the bomb they disarmed was actually a decoy. Now high and drunk, this team has to find and deactivate the real bomb or else Vegas will blow sky high. Think live-action “Archer” with a Netflix budget.
“Even though I’m half drunk and he is fully drunk and high, we’re the only people on the planet who can keep it from getting blown to hell,” Shelley Hennig as Ava Winters says in the trailer.

That includes Netflix’s Cobra Kai, which is set to return for a sixth and final season. But when will new episodes drop? Here’s what we know about the Cobra Kai Season 6 release date.
