According to an online report, The Young and the Restless head writer and executive producer Mal Young has been fired and replaced by Josh Griffith.
Young, best known for his work on British soap opera EastEnders, had a mixed record at Y&R. Despite some wonderful moments and episodes, Young's Y&R was never consistently entertaining, and he often repeated mistakes made by producers of many past canceled soaps. The addition of the rather boring Rosales family this year made some fans complain they were replacing beloved vets like Doug Davidson, who was taken off contract after decades of playing Paul Williams.
Longtime star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) got dragged into the discussion after speaking out. He tweeted the following on Sunday: "To those who are dying to start shit with me, go for it!! But don’t you dare accuse me of 'racist' attitude when I have spent my lifetime going against that evil,...

Longtime soap opera director turned producer Anthony Morina is taking over the executive producer role at The Young and the Restless, while Josh Griffith will return for another stint as head writer. This follows the news earlier today that Mal Young is exiting his role as both executive producer and head writer.
Morina's daytime soap opera credits include directing at Santa Barbara, Generations, Sunset Beach, Guiding Light, Port Charles, General Hospital, All My Children and The Young and the Restless. He has been a producer at Y&R since 2007, and in the supervising producer role since 2008. He also produced and directed MTV's Spyder Games.
Griffith has been moving around from soap to soap since 1988. He has had two previous head writing stints at Y&R that were, like Young's, a mixed bag. If Morina and Griffith share a common vision for the iconic daytime drama, they have a chance to succeed.

The Young and the Restless star Doug Davidson confirmed on Wednesday that he has no scheduled dates to return the CBS soap opera. The news was not entirely unexpected in the wildly inconsistent era of Y&R run by executive producer and head writer Mal Young which has, at times, been a mess.
There was speculation of Davidson's exit on Tuesday when some Y&R fans read that he had apparently been fired. A fan took to Twitter to see if the news were true, asking, "They haven’t let you go, have they?" Davidson responded, "It seems so."
He continued to thank his fans on Twitter and hinted at the fact that the show let him go because they were "going in another direction."
Davidson confirmed the news on Soaps.com saying: “My contract was not renewed in January, I went on recurring, but just until they had new people in place.

Soaps have always drawn on their rich histories for story ideas, but serials seem to be doing this to an even greater degree as competition for eyeballs is at an all-time high. And such storytelling strategy has led to Daytime Emmy nomination success.
When Bradley Bell, head writer and executive producer of “The Bold and the Beautiful” (nominated for 18 awards at the 45th annual ceremony this year), wanted viewers to sympathize with resident rogue Quinn Forrester (Rena Sofer), he knew he needed a formidable force.

The show’s breakaway vase budget took a hit, but after some classic battles, viewer sympathy for Quinn grew.

I know it won't be the popular opinion, but I've watched enough Hallmark (okay, and Lifetime) movies and read enough books in my day to know the way Nick is going about getting "his son" back is the wrong move.
This is one sticky situation. Christully (let's just combine the names for ease, right?) is technically an orphan by birth. He has two legal parents,...

The Young and the Restless has been going through a lot of changes during 2016.
At the beginning of the year, beloved characters were going nuts, off their medication, murdering and being murdered, switching babies and writers seemed to be rehashing the same old (very tired) stories. Viewers were often left scratching their heads wondering where the spark had gone.
It's taken a while, but the forecast is sunny weather in Genoa City as sets have been added, characters are being redeemed, relationships are being reexamined and people are getting back to the office and out of local laboratories.
The Reinvigoration of Sets
This really cannot be said enough. The additional sets are simply fantastic.
When an entire city of people are all milling around three sets, it not only gets a little bit crowded, but it's impossible to keep a tether on reality. It starts to feel like you're watching...

There are a lot of strategic moves happening on The Young and the Restless.
Characters are being moved around like pieces on a chessboard. Will new couples be formed or old flames re-ignited?
Time will tell. Let's take a look at what went down this week on our favorite sudser.
The week started off rough for Philly fans with Phyllis angrily pushing Billy away in the elevator. She's trying with everything she has to convince the both of them she doesn't love Billy. It's utterly unconvincing. Nonetheless, she wonders if he gets what she's trying to say.
By way of response, Billy walks up as closely as possible to say, "Perfectly," while his breath blows a breeze into her hair. Suddenly they are face to face. Cut scene. That's all we get.
Jack and Jill discuss her favorite topic. Billy. Jack is a bit down on her treatment of his...

The wheels kept on turning this week on The Young and the Restless.
Victor went from the courtroom to the board room (not really, it just sounds good) as he was released after the entire family testified on his behalf. But it's already come back to bite some of them in the behind. As if we didn't see that coming.
Chloe made her presence known all over town, and with only one really awful reaction to Adam's imprisonment, nobody seemed to tie her return to his misfortune. No, we don't expect that to last.
Let's dig into all of that and the rest of the dirt out of Genoa City!
Phyllis had a very bad week. At least if you were Phyllis. For viewers, I'm not so sure. It depends upon where you fall on the issues. And let's be real, her issues are as hotly debated as the 2016 presidential election.

This week was fairly well rounded when it comes to utilization of characters, and it was really appreciated.
We're weren't stuck in any one location for too long, and we even had an unlikely foursome scoring some drinks. I guess it shouldn't be unlikely that Dylan and Stitch would go out for drinks with their wives given their history, but that they married Abby and Sharon presents the oddity.
And finally...Finally, Chloe revealed her face, and her totally awesome disguise. I hope she really doesn't think that's a disguise, because I recognized her straight away.
So let's start with Victor and Chloe. A lot of other stories splinter off of Victor anyway.
We all pretty much knew it was going to be Chloe. Was she "disguising" herself to look like Natalie to throw the scent her way? She certainly doesn't wear it well. They put it on her head...

Things are still moving forward at a pretty fast pace on The Young and the Restless.
It really feels like they're in the midst of out with the old in with the new, and I like it.
So Ian escapes from the courtroom after Victor committed so much perjury even he couldn't possibly keep track of it all, and Meredith ultimately helped Victor escape police custody in the hospital to save the day.
The police are clowns in Genoa City, aren't they?
At first, Dylan and Paul were all over the place trying to figure out who helped Ian escape. Why Adam and Chelsea admitted to their plan is a mystery, but Adam was already on house arrest (can anybody explain that?), so it didn't really matter.
If Adam left the apartment, it would only be three for three escapes in the week.
Meredith listened in on the family chats with the Newmans,...

A lot has happened while I've been away.
I was in NY for CBS press day (summer prime time shows) and then at the Atx festival (all TV all the time!), and then this week The Young and the Restless was preempted three times. Meanwhile, the showrunner was fired, word is characters are on their way out...sheesh!
So, forgive me for my absences and if I miss anything that went down this week, because in case you didn't know, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup, and a parade with over 300k people filling the streets gets priority in my hometown!
Now. Let's get to the good stuff. Ashley isn't the only one being driven nuts by Hillary.
Yes, Hillary is relapsing. Or is she?
Until Friday, I fully believed Hillary was about to succumb to a coma again like the other patients in the drug trial. She is...

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

From the Queen Vic to the Tardis. As Eastenders prepares to mark its 30th anniversary, we look back at its encounters with Doctor Who...
Back in the mid-eighties an actor who played "Third Assistant" in a Doctor Who story called The Savages (1966) and the director of another Doctor Who adventure, The Underwater Menace (1967), came together to create one of the BBC’s most successful television shows.
And when they got together, it was murder. Well, not quite. (Though the first episode did feature a victim who would later die, fact fans.) But what they did create was Eastenders.
Broadcast on February the 19th 1985 (in between episodes one and two of The Two Doctors), this creation of Who alumni would go on to share numerous links with the long-running science-fiction for years to come. Even its time-slot owes much to the adventures of everyone’s favourite Gallifreyan.

Former "Starsky and Hutch" (1975) heart-throb David Soul is to join the BBC hospital drama "Holby City" (1999). The husky-voiced actor, who overcame a severe drinking problem in the '80s, shot to fame in the '70s as cop Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson. But he has been living and working in London for the past five years - and was invited to appear on Holby City after the BBC's Head of Drama Mal Young saw him perform on stage. Mal said, "Being a Starsky and Hutch fan, I went to see David acting in the West End. I though he'd be brilliant as a surgeon in Holby and asked him to join." The British show's ten million fans will begin enjoying David in the spring.
