The official website for Junya Sato’s upcoming jidaigeki film Sakuradamon-gai no Hen has been updated with a new 1-minute trailer.
As reported by Tokyograph back in February, the story is based on a 1990 novel by Akira Yoshimura which recounted events surrounding the Sakuradamon incident of 1860 in which Japanese Chief Minister Ii Naosuke was assassinated by masterless samurai from the Mito domain outside the Sakuradamon gate of Edo Castle. Takao Osawa stars as Seki Tetsunosuke, a retainer of the Mito domain who was in charge of the assassination. Masato Ibu plays Ii Naosuke.
Toei will be releasing “Sakuradamon-gai no Hen” in Japan on October 16, 2010.
