Nickelodeon Animation Studios has penciled in Brian Keane for its newly created post of EVP Production & Operations.
Keane, who spent a decade-plus as EVP/COO of Blue Sky Studios, will oversee plans to scale, manage and support productions across Nickelodeon series, movies and its Studio business in Burbank and New York. He will be based in NYC and report to Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito.
“Brian’s love of animation, operational expertise and producorial spirit will greatly contribute to Nickelodeon’s culture and success,” Naito said in a statement. “Keane and Yen’s partnership fortifies our studio’s mission to produce and deliver the highest quality content for kids and families everywhere across multiple platforms.”

In today’s TV news roundup, the NFL and Pluto TV announce the launch of a new channel, and Rebel Wilson is named as the host of the first Amazon original series to come out of Australia.

Rebel Wilson is set to host and executive produce the Australian Amazon original series “Lol: Last One Laughing,” the first original series from the streamer to come out of Wilson’s native country. The comedy variety series will feature ten Australian comedians competing to get each other to laugh first. The last one standing, or rather laughing, will go home with $100,000 Australian.

Investigation Discovery has announced that it new series “The Murder Tapes,” which shows actual footage of murder investigations, will premiere on Aug. 28. The series will use every conceivable form of taped footage in a homicide case, from body cam to home security tapes, to allow viewers see and hear it all.

Nickelodeon has hired Angelique Yen and Eddie Gamarra to oversee its studio business, the company announced on Tuesday.
Yen’s title is senior vice president, physical production, Nickelodeon Movies. She will oversee production for all original long-form movie content. As vice president, studio business development, Gamarra will be in charge of developing animated and live-action content for streaming platforms and third parties.
The hires build on the Viacom brand’s efforts to shift to a studio model in which it produces content for outside services in addition to the linear channel. Both Yen and Gamarra will report to Nickelodeon’s executive vice president of animation, Ramsey Naito, and will be based in Burbank.
