Update: Rep. Liz Cheney (R-wy) said that former President Donald Trump tried to reach out to a January 6th Committee witness, who has not yet been heard from at the hearings, and that the incident has been reported to the Justice Department.
“We will take any effort to influence witness testimony very seriously,” Cheney said toward the end of Tuesday’s hearing.
Cheney said that the witness “declined to answer” Trump’s call, but instead referred the matter to their attorney, who then contacted the committee.
“This committee has supplied that information to the Department of Justice,” Cheney said.
She said that Trump made the call after the last committee hearing, in which Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to chief of staff Mark Meadows, testified.

New York — Nine Nobel Peace Prize winners are speaking out against a new NBC competition series they say treats military maneuvers like athletic events.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the other Nobel laureates protested in an open letter that the show, "Stars Earn Stripes," glorifies war and armed violence.
The series, which premiered on Monday night, pairs celebrities with inactive U.S. military personnel for simulated military challenges. Celebrity participants include boxing champion Laila Ali, Superman actor Dean Cain, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd Palin.
The program is hosted by retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark.
"I'm doing this series for one reason," says Clark at the top of the show – "to introduce you, the American people, to the individuals that sacrifice so much for all of us."

NBC debuts a new reality show Monday night (Aug. 13) called "Stars Earn Stripes," which pairs celebrities with U.S. military personnel and puts them through simulated military training. But nine Nobel Peace Laureates want the show pulled by NBC because "war isn't entertainment," reports the Washington Post.
In a letter to NBC entertainment chariman Bob Greenblatt, producer Mark Burnett and General Wesley Clark, the host of the series, the Laureates, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, write, "This program pays homage to no one anywhere and continues and expands on an inglorious tradition of glorifying war and armed violence."
They continue that the show is a "massive disservice to those who live and die in armed conflict and suffer its consequences long after the guns of war fall silent."

Welcome to No Fact Zone’s weekly roundup of cultural references on The Colbert Report. From Darcy to Danger Mouse, String Theory to Shakespeare, we’ve got the keys to this week’s obscure, oddball, and occasionally obscene cultural shout-outs (hey!).
Konnichi wa /Konbanwa Zoners! What a great week back after vacation. Stephen and the gang were in top form yet again. I don’t think I have ever been as hungry after watching a show as I was after this weeks episodes – candy bars, pistachio ice cream, shawarmas – I was practically chomping at the bit to run for a midnight treat, but I refrained…this time. I was moved by the attention to the needs of the Japanese with his donation reminders. With everything going on right now, it’s easy for us to lose focus. Oh and Jimmy Fallon – what can I say? He found a devoted fan...

Guests: Laurie Garrett, Jody Williams
Segments: Bears & Balls – Misery Edition, Eat, Pray to Eat – Laurie Garrett, Channeled Rage
Videos: Thursday, March 24, 2011
Before I get started on the guide, I wanted to share something that happened to me at work yesterday. I have an electronic frame that, along with pictures of my husband and cats, also has some of my favorite Stephen eye candy. I also have my Kfa 2010 button hanging from my cubicle wall. The new sales guy came up to my desk to ask about getting a new stapler (putting my college degree to work there), and said “Oh hey! Stephen Colbert!” I said, “Yes … you know who he is?” He said, “Yeah! My wife and I watch the ‘Daily Show’ every night and love the ‘Colbert’ show. I watched the entire rally, too!” I said, “Really? That’s awesome! I was there, and it was cool!

This week my brother came down to visit me and enjoy some beautiful sun and beach time before getting through the rest of spring. Not that spring itself is bad, but spring in Maryland is almost completely unpredictable and prone to violent mood swings so that one week you'll be wearing shorts and tee shirts and the next week you'll be dragging out the heavy coats and snow boots again. The trip went great, however late last night there was a fire at Miami International Airport, which is known as the seventh circle of hell on a Good day and I've a giant portion of my morning on the phone with airlines, family members, and airlines again trying to sort out how and when he's going to get back to Baltimore. I feel bad for the airline people because honestly they're probably having a worse day than I am, but...

Welcome back, everyone!
I hope Stephen is rested and ready to rock and roll after his week off. I’m certainly happy to have him back. Since I’m getting a special kick out of Jewish Stephen, I can’t wait to see where he’ll go with this clever idea. Passover comes before Easter (well, it’s the Last Supper, after all), Stephen will still be Jewish for the holiday. Does that mean he’ll stop eating bread with his bacon and eggs? Stephen, you heard it here first: if you’re in need of a Seder, I’m issuing an invite. (It’s my friends’ Seder, but they’ll be very happy to have you.) As you may know, on Passover it’s a religious requirement for us to welcome any Jew to our Seder table, so I’d never leave you or your family out in the cold.

I'm down to one assignment left this semester, which is great because this week was pretty rough, deadline wise, and a huge week at work so I've been bouncing back and forth between diphenhydramine to get me to sleep and five hour energy to perk me up enough to get through all my work plus eating like shit and it's sort of made me weird and twitchy. Or rather, more weird and twitchy. It's like having a coffee addiction but without the coffee. I think I need to detox this weekend. Anyone have some recommendations for that? Tell me later, right now I have to duct tape my leg down so I stop bouncing my knee compulsively, here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS
"Bones" on Fox
"Brew Masters" on Discovery
"Community" on NBC
"The Santa Incident" on Hallmark. Why do these shitty Christmas TV movies keep happening?...
