Suffered from tics all his life and was diagnosed at age 40 with Tourette's Syndrome. He became vice president of the Tourette Syndrome Association's Southern California Chapter and spoke publicly about the disease. Later in life, he also earned a master's degree in psychology at Antioch College and became a counseling intern with the Family Service Agency of Burbank.
