Fertile Ground is the next chilling feature from the After Dark Originals brand, coming to DVD & Blu-ray 23rd May after screening at the After Dark Horrorfest Weekend earlier in the year. Helmed by Adam Gierasch, director of Autopsy (2008) and Night of the Demons (2010), Fertile Ground was described as one of this year’s festival’s “darkest bright spots” by Dread Central and perfectly shows off Gierasch’s fantastic, and fertile, imagination.
Emily and Nate Weaver leave the city for the rural comfort of Nate’s ancestral home in the country. Once there, Emily is plagued by horrifying visions and haunted by the ghosts inhabiting their isolated new home. When Nate’s behaviour undergoes a strange and fearful metamorphous, Emily fears she might be the latest target in a murderous tradition.

Seconds Apart After Dark Films has just announced that they will release two more titles from their After Dark Originals lineup, which played in select theaters back in January, to DVD on May 24th - Seconds Apart and Fertile Ground. After Dark Films was also responsible for Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For. They abandoned the format this year to focus on the "Originals" format. They also changed another element which included them releasing all eight films from the lineup all at once onto DVD. Instead, now they seemed focused on just releasing two titles at a time to DVD and spreading it throughout the entire year instead.
With Seconds Apart and Fertile Ground both films will feature a behind the scenes featurette. Fertile Ground will also include audio commentary with the filmmakers and lead actress Leisha Hailey in addition to the featurette.

The first trailer for director Adam Gierasch’s “Fertile Ground”, one of the titles on After Dark’s 2011 Horrorfest schedule, is now online. Gierasch’s got a pretty interesting resume. Besides directing, he’s also written and starred in plenty of genre movies, including “Toolbox Murders” and the recent remake of “Night of the Demons”, which he also wrote and directed. Emily and Nate Weaver leave the city for the rural comfort of Nate’s ancestral home in New Hampshire. Once there, Emily is repeatedly haunted by horrifying visions and becomes overwhelmed by the total isolation of their new home. Just as she discovers she is pregnant, Nate starts exhibiting increasingly strange and violent behavior. In a house haunted by past victims, Emily fears she is the latest target in a murderous tradition. One thing I look forward to every year is After Dark Horrorfest and this year they have taken a new route with the After Dark Originals in which After Dark has actually produced in house this time instead of acquiring the films. The Originals line-up are: Re-Kill, 51, Scream of the Banshee, Prowl, Fertile Ground, The Task, Seconds Apart and Husk. Look for all 8 films in limited theaters starting January 28th with VOD/DVD releases soon afterwards, probably around March. Fertile Ground is the latest in the so-far-5 films made by After Dark Originals starring Leisha Hailey. Major Suckage, or Yay-ness?
I haven't seen it yet, so how could I know? We don't even have a trailer, man!
After Dark Originals: A New Brand of Fear is the latest development (with a little help from Lionsgate) from the people that started Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For in 2006. Most of the films, which would normally have gone straight-to-dvd, were very hit and miss.
