NEW YORK -- Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired North American theatrical and DVD rights to Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst's directorial debut, The Education of Charlie Banks.
The coming-of-age drama stars Jesse Eisenberg as the title character, a high school student who witnesses a local bully (Jason Ritter) savagely beating two teens at a party. Years after giving and rescinding his testimony to the police, the past comes back to haunt him when the bully shows up at his college and enters his life. Eva Amurri co-stars as the object of Banks' affection.
Education, written by Peter Elkoff and produced by Strongheart Pictures, won the Made In New York Award at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. The studio plans a spring 2008 release.
The deal was negotiated by Anchor Bay's Mark Ward and Bill Clark with Machine Management's Jon Sheinberg for Strongheart Pictures.
