Matt Schlapp, the American Conservative Union (Acu) and Conservative Political Action Conference (Cpac) chairman, agreed to pay campaign staffer Carlton Huffman $480,000 to settle a sexual assault lawsuit.
Schlapp and his organization are long-time backers of former President Donald Trump.
In late 2022, Huffman, a staffer working for Herschel Walker‘s Senate campaign, anonymously accused Schlapp of making “sustained and unwanted and unsolicited” sexual contact with him.
The video was recorded on the night of the incident itself.
Walker’s campaign staffer stated that the incident happened on the night of October 19, 2022, when he “groped” his crotch in his car after buying him drinks.
Schlapp’s lawyer, Charlie Spies, said that the accusations were an “attack” and that Schlapp denied committing “any improper behavior.”
The Walker’s campaign confirmed that Huffman had shared the details of the incident with his supervisors.

The GOP strategist who accused Matt Schlapp of sexual assault last year reportedly received a hefty financial settlement to drop his lawsuit against the Cpac chairman — a day after Schlapp and his allies widely boasted on social media that the case had been dismissed.
On Wednesday, the Daily Beast reported that sources with knowledge of the payout said that the money for the settlement came from the Schlapp’s right wing organization American Conservative Union’s insurance policy. CNN published a story stating that the suit was dropped after Schlapp...

The Conservative Political Action Conference has become much more of a Maga event in recent years, with Donald Trump himself scheduled on Saturday to address the event of conservative activists, media figures and supporters.
But the event has been covered on the right and the left, save for perhaps this year.
Matt Schlapp, the chair of the conference, said that he was not going to credential those in the left.
“Cpac has a new rule. If you are a propagandist, you can buy a ticket like everyone else, but you are not in the media, and we are not going to credential you by saying you are in the media,” Schlapp said on Steve Bannon’s podcast.
He singled out MSNBC, saying it was “100% anti Trump, anti-America, anti-conservative, every moment of every day. They never have any kind of honest treatment of anything.”
“Let’s get real. Let’s not credential them anymore,...

A foul presence was haunting the Cpac office — and it wasn’t the organization’s chairman, Matt Schlapp. Schlapp believed Satan himself had to be driven from the premises, according to a new report from The Daily Beast.
Per the Beast, Schlapp called in a Catholic priest to conduct an exorcism of Cpac’s Alexandria office after complaints about staff treatment and inadequate pay led to a mass resignation of staffers in 2022.
The priest reportedly doused the place — and any employees he encountered — with holy water, and placed medallions depicting Saint Benedict,...

Last month, supporters of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential bid created a Super Pac titled Heal the Divide. On its website, the group — whose name is borrowed from Kennedy’s own campaign slogan — advises voters that “Only Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. can unite the Nation to start healing America,” and allows visitors to donate both in dollars and cryptocurrency.
There’s nothing abnormal about a candidate getting a Super Pac, even a candidate making a long-shot bid like Kennedy’s. What is abnormal, however, is that Kennedy is running...

At least one Republican senator has serious doubts about Donald Trump’s chances to win in 2024. Sen. Bill Cassidy said that he believes the former president “cannot win a general election.”
“During the last election cycle, we saw in all the swing states, almost all — Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona — that the candidates for Senate that Trump endorsed all lost,” Cassidy said on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. “If you had taken the votes that went to other Republicans and put them together, those Republicans would have won.

The Conservative Political Action Conference is taking place this week at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. Cpac is the year’s most biggest gathering of conservative thought leaders, serving as a kind of Coachella for misinformation, bigotry, religious zealotry, and veneration of a twice-impeached president who lost the 2020 election. The 2023 edition will feature speeches from likes of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Donald Trump, and others, although big names like Ron DeSantis, Mike Pence, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are skipping the conference,...

A former campaign staffer to Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker is seeking almost 9.4 million in damages in a lawsuit alleging that Cpac Chair Matt Schlapp groped him non-consensually in October. The suit alleges that Schlapp defamed him and committed sexual battery against the staffer when he “reached in between [his] legs and fondled” him in a “sustained and unwanted and unsolicited” manner.

Kevin McCarthy is having a rough go of it in his quest to become speaker of the House of Representatives. He didn’t come anywhere close to getting the votes he needed on the first or second ballots cast on Tuesday, and drifted even further away from the gavel on the third. McCarthy is desperate for help, which is why it was a little curious that Donald Trump, who has endorsed McCarthy for the role, didn’t try to rally support publicly as his top lackey in the House took L after L.

Steve Martin and Martin Short breathed some life back into Saturday Night Live.
Saturday’s telecast hosted by the comedians drew 5.1M viewers, marking the most-watched episode this season, according to live + same-day Nielsen data. Brandi Carlile was the musical guest.
That’s a nice lift from the week prior, when Keke Palmer hosted to a low audience of around 3.9M. The December 10 episode even managed to beat Dave Chappelle‘s controversial hosting gig, which posted the previous Season 48 high of 4.8M total viewers in November.
SNL has struggled to bounce back with audiences after a major cast exodus prior to the start of the season, with the first five episodes of Season 48 averaging around 4 million viewers. Even Amy Schumer couldn’t lift the sketch comedy show out of its ratings slump, managing a 0.79 demo rating and 4.3 million viewers when she hosted on Nov. 5. The week prior, Jack Harlow’s...

When summer arrives, many people go on vacation. A chunk of NBC’s venerable “Tonight Show” staff instead went to Game Camp.
Over the course of eight weeks during this year’s hot season, staffers set about creating a bunch of new contests that “Tonight” host Jimmy Fallon can try with guests. One of Fallon’s strengths has been the creation of a “play along” attitude that gets celebrities to do everything from impressions of famous musicians to egg tosses. It was a highly political “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live with Colin Jost and Michael Che taking swipes at political figures.

“And he’s only got 14 more sleeps until Santa,” Jost added. “But then, just when he thought that he had it all under control, Kyrsten Sinema said, ‘Hold my wig.'”

Following Herschel Walker’s runoff loss this week in Georgia, Seth Meyers is reflecting on why he fell to Sen. Raphael Warnock. According to the late night host, there was one clear sign from the beginning: the fact that Walker rarely did appearances on Fox News alone.
To kick off his “A Closer Look” segment on Wednesday, Meyers played a supercut of Walker’s media appearances to call attention to the fact that more often than not, he was accompanied by Sen. Lindsey Graham.
“One way you know that Herschel Walker was deeply unqualified to serve in the United States senate was that even Republicans would rarely let him go on Fox News by himself,” Meyers joked. “Instead he was almost always accompanied by a chaperone, South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham, who seemed to do most of the talking.”

Stephen Colbert was in a chipper mood on Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show,” thanks to the victory of Democrat Raphael Warnock over Republican Herschel Walker in the Georgia U.S. Senate. runoff election Tuesday.
And to celebrate, Colbert dusted off some jokes he and his staff had written for the show back on election day (Nov. 8), but didn’t get to tell because the race between Warnock and Walker was forced into a runoff.
“I’m gratified because, with the election over, I finally get to use the jokes we wrote a month ago,” Colbert said right off the bat. He was then handed an extremely dusty envelope, sealed with wax (get it? Because it’s old?) which contained the jokes.
“Warnock has won Georgia, and it’s fitting he’s a reverend, because all I can think when I hear that is, ‘thank God,'” went the first joke.

Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated Republican challenger Herschel Walker in a Georgia runoff election Tuesday, ensuring Democrats an outright majority in the Senate for the rest of President Joe Biden’s term and helping cap an underwhelming midterm cycle for the GOP in the last major vote of the year.
With Warnock’s second runoff victory in as many years, Democrats will have a 51-49 Senate majority, gaining a seat from the current 50-50 split with John Fetterman’s victory in Pennsylvania. There will be divided government, however, with Republicans having narrowly flipped House control.
In last month’s election, Warnock led Walker by 37,000 votes out of almost 4 million cast but fell short of the 50 percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff. Walker, a football legend who first gained fame at the University of Georgia and later in the NFL in the 1980s,...

Raphael Warnock has defeated Herschel Walker in a runoff election to determine who will represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate.
The incumbent Democrat was leading with Democratic areas still to report when the race was called Tuesday night. Warnock bested Walker by just under a percentage point during the general election last month, but didn’t cross the 50-percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff. His victory means Democrats will hold a 51-49 advantage in the Senate, expanding their slim majority in midterm elections that were projected to favor Republicans.

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-ga) was projected to win election to a full Senate term on Tuesday, defeating football star Herschel Walker in a runoff that was the final chapter of the midterms.
Warnock’s victory will give Democrats a 51-49 margin in the Senate, a one-seat gain that gives the party a clear majority.
Walker’s defeat was another loss for a Donald Trump-endorsed candidate, as the former president thrown his backing behind the sports celebrity despite his lack of experience in the political realm and personal baggage from past relationships.
News networks CNN and MSNBC spent hours analyzing the runoff results, with each candidate flipping back and forth in the lead several times. Fox News also covered the results, but as part of their regular primetime lineup.
“After a hard-fought campaign, you got me for six more years,” Warnock told a room of cheering supporters after Walker conceded the race.

MSNBC host Joy Reid slammed Georgia’s Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, Herschel Walker, Tuesday night as polls were closing in the state’s run-off between he and Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock.
Reid, talking among a panel of anchors and analysts during the network’s coverage of the special election, discussed a trip she took to Georgia, during which she talked to potential voters.
“While I was down there, the word I heard the most, particularly from Black voters in Georgia, was representation,” Reid said.

Jimmy Fallon took aim at low interest in books about President Joe Biden on Monday’s “The Tonight Show,” reading out faux blurbs on the back of made-up books mocking the low-energy nature of Biden’s presidency.
“I read that compared to past presidents, books about President Biden aren’t selling many copies,” Fallon began during his monologue. “You can tell that Biden books aren’t that exciting, just look at the blurbs on the back. For instance, this critic from The New York Times wrote, ‘Even for a guy from Delaware, he’s boring.’”
He continued: “The Washington Post wrote, ‘Joe Biden is the Millard Filmore of James Polks.’ Then USA Today wrote, ‘This makes Mike Pence’s book feel like ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’”

Herschel Walker’s campaign for Senate in Georgia comes to an end on Tuesday. It’s as of yet unclear whether the former football star will unseat incumbent Democrat Raphel Warnock, but his bid for Congress has been one of — if not the — most chaotic and generally incoherent the nation has ever seen. The Trump-endorsed Republican has been shrouded by scandal, has a deeply concerning history of mental illness and erratic behavior, and has regularly delivered incomprehensible statements about the issues on which he seeks to legislate.

We're nearing the end of 2022, and with just a couple more episodes to go before 2023, we're through roughly one-third of the 48th season of "Saturday Night Live." While many are undoubtedly anticipated the co-hosting duo of Steve Martin and Martin Short next weekend, "Nope" star Keke Palmer just set a new bar by hosting the best episode of the season so far. Much like cast member Kenan Thompson, the comedic chops of Keke Palmer were honed on Nickelodeon in her younger years, following her breakthrough performance in "Akeelah and the Bee." So it should come as no surprise that Palmer felt perfectly at home in host hosting debut on "SNL," and I feel like we could be looking at a potential new inductee into the Five-Timers Club as her career continues to blossom.
Alright, let's dig into Keke Palmer's episode of "Saturday Night Live."

Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker fails to see the humor in former president Barack Obama’s jokes about Walker’s preference to be a werewolf rather than a vampire.
Appearing on Fox News, the candidate claimed Obama did not “tell the whole story” when joking about comments Walker made in November where he said, “I don’t know if you know, but vampires are some cool people, are they not? But let me tell you something that I found out: A werewolf can kill a vampire. Did you know that?...

“You guys aren’t going to believe this, but Alex Jones and Kanye West got together this week, and it didn’t go great,” Colin Jost opened SNL‘s Weekend Update.
In West’s interview with the Sandy Hook school shooting denier, the anti-Semite said, “I like Hitler.” This, Jost joked, “was also the password he used to get into Mar-a-Lago.”
“At this point, I don’t think Kanye is off his meds so much as he’s immune to them. We’re basically dealing with the omicron variant of Kanye.

After a brief hiatus, Saturday Night Live returned on Dec. 3 and dove right into the upcoming Georgia Senate runoff race between Herschel Walker and Raphael Warnock.
The cold open featured Kenan Thompson’s Herschel Walker, Mikey Day’s John Cornyn, Cecily Strong’s Marsha Blackburn and James Austin Johnson’s Mitch McConnell.
“Well, Herschel, the midterms wasn’t the red wave we hoped for, but we think you can win this Tuesday,” Day’s Cornyn said. “Yes. The priority now is to get out the vote because he got this big runoff coming up,” Strong’s Blackburn added.
“Oh, well, I’m good at those,” Thompson’s Walker replied. “My ex-wife said all I do is run off.”
Strong and Day explained to Thompson that they were talking about the Senate race, which is polling very close, with Warnock polling at 50.9 percent and Walker at 49.1 percent.

Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell reunited on the set of Saturday Night Live this week, during a sketch where host Keke Palmer was pitching a reboot of a the pair’s 90s sitcom.
“I had already sold the show before I even met Kenan,” Palmer laughed. “I told the producers we wrote it together.”
The reboot, dubbed Kenan and Kelly, featured Thompson still working at Rigby’s. Palmer took on a female version of Mitchell’s character, wreaking havoc in the convenience store. The skit took a dramatic turn when Palmer’s Kelly revealed she was pregnant with Kenan’s baby.
“Keke was gunning for an Emmy award,” Thompson said in a fake confessional, explaining that she’d wanted to make the reboot even more dramatic for that reason.

“Saturday Night Live” opened the first new show in three weeks with a look at how the GOP is responding to Herschel Walker’s tight runoff Senate race in Georgia, with Kenan Thompson memorably reprising his role as the former NFL running back who keeps going from gaffe to gaffe.
The “SNL” cold open began with Mitch McConnell (James Austin Johnson), Marsha Blackburn (Cecily Strong) and John Cornyn (Mikey Day) sitting in a room at the Capitol, where Walker was summoned to discuss strategy. “Hey there Mr. McDonald’s, sorry I was late I was having too much fun in that free merry-go-round,” Thompson’s Walker said to Johnson’s McConnell, mistaking a revolving door for a ride.
The sketch then played out with Walker responding incorrectly to pretty much everything McConnell, Blackburn and Cornyn had to say.
When vote-by-mail was mentioned, Walker responded, “You gotta remember, they still gotta count votes by female.

The Saturday Night Live cold open used Herschel Walker’s own slip ups and bizarre words against him to skewer his Senate bid, as the Republican Senate candidate in Georgia faces off against Democrat Raphael Warnock.
In real life, Walker’s post-Election Day runoff has been marked by his comments about vampires and werewolves, as well as a slip-up that was a bit Freudian given the allegations and revelations that have emerged since the football star entered the political arena.
In the skit, Walker (Kenan Thompson) is visiting the office of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (James Austin Johnson), as he and other colleagues are anxious for any kind of win after Republican hopes of retaking the majority were dashed in the most recent midterms. But the seasoned politicians have to contend with a candidate, Walker, who seems to be testing how much voters will accept when it comes to lack of qualifications.

In the “Morning Joe” studio Monday, former acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal made clear that he believes former President Donald Trump will be indicted by this second special counsel investigation, which focuses on the classified documents found in his Mar-a-Lago house and role in inciting the Jan. 6 attacks on the Capitol.
