During the period when he was portraying star reporter Joe Rossi on Lou Grant, he actually called in several news stories to the New York Post, which were published under his byline.

American sitcoms to feature openly gay characters.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for: Lou Grant (1977).
Studied acting at The Beverly Hills Playhouse with Milton Katselas. And
was a substitute teacher there and a director.
His first directing endeavor, a production of "Dylan," won three Los
Angeles Critic Circle and seven Dramalogue Awards
Received his Bachelor of Arts degree from New York City College.
