Eddie Wilson could tell stories about the Armadillo World Headquarters, the storied Austin music venue he founded in 1970, for hours. He’ll tell you about how “nowhere else in the world” had ever treated Charlie Daniels so good, or the “phonebook thick” contract Zz Top made him sign, or maybe the times that names like Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, and Stevie Ray Vaughan performed there in the Seventies.
“We got one wonderful picture of Frank Zappa bending over a table with a razor blade,” Wilson recounts in his Texas twang.

Thirty years ago this week, Stevie Ray Vaughan played the final show of his career when he opened up for Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. Shortly after the concert ended, Vaughan and three members of Clapton’s crew boarded a helicopter to travel to Chicago’s Midway Airport. It was a foggy evening and the pilot crashed into a ski hill near the venue shortly after takeoff, killing Vaughan and everyone else on board.

Director Jim McBride puts retro magic into a rock ‘n’ roll bio about a big talent who was probably more fun on stage than in person. Dennis Quaid hits the right note of insanity for his portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis’s rise to fame and fortune. Winona Ryder’s hilarious, almost scary bobby-sox Lolita becomes Jerry’s girl bride. Everything’s ducky until the real-life story goes sour, leaving the comic characterizations high and dry.

Recording an album is tough, but after 20 years of producing music, the most difficult aspect may be keeping the process fresh. The Foo Fighters took that concept to a new level while creating their latest album, due out in November-they toured the United States, recording each song in a different city, hoping that the music scene of the area would influence the track. But Dave Grohl didn't just want to record Sonic Highways-he decided to document the experience, interviewing figures important to each city's musical history for a documentary series that shares the album's name. In turn, those interviews shaped the album,...

It's that time of year again, when television has become sufficiently slim pickings and my holiday schedule has grown full enough that I have to leave you all to your own television scheduling devices until the early days of 2011. I hope the season finds you all as well as can be and that you've got good things to look forward to in the next week and a half and beyond. And finally, thank you for reading and participating; writing this would be no fun without all of you out there in internet-land. Here's your Wednesday night TV for the last time in 2010:

It’s that time of the year already! The 53rd annual Grammy nominations (for 2011) were announced last night and it’s safe to say that Eminem made a clean sweep popping up in 10 categories. Love the Way you Lie is up for Song and Record of the Tear while Recovery has received nominations for Album and Rap Album of the Year. Just for a quick memory jog, remember who was a big winner at last year’s Grammys? Beyonce! Other big nominees this year include Bruno Mars with seven nominations, and Jay-z, Lady Gaga and Lady Antebellum with six each. John Legend and B.o.B follow closely with five. Katy Perry, who’s performing for VH1 Divas Salute the Troops (Sunday, Dec. 5, at 9/8c), scored four nominations, including one for Album of the Year for Teenage Dream. What’s your take on the nominees this year? Did anyone get left out?...
