With just a few days until the sequel to the amazing Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) comes out, news has already hit that writer and director James Gunn will indeed be returning to make the third installment.
Anyone who saw the first film will know that its great mix of comic book mayhem, mixed with its incredible soundtrack and hilarity, will be excited about the follow up, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which hits cinemas on April 27.
This time we have the full Guardian line up, set a couple of months after the events of the first, with Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and even Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) on board the rebuilt Milano. We already know that we are bound to meet Ego the Human Planet (Kurt Russell) who it turns out will be Star Lord’s dad?...

From “Spirit in the Sky” to Blue Swede’s infectious “Hooked on a Feeling” – a song that has since become synonymous with Marvel’s galactic anti-heroes – the soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy was arguably the most crowd-pleasing element of James Gunn’s 2014 sleeper hit. And that’s really saying something, given the film featured a talking tree and a warrior that struggled to wrap his head around the concept of a metaphor.
With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 now teetering on the verge of its theatrical release, the level of interest in Star-Lord and the crew has grown astronomically in the past three years, though if there’s one ingredient that James Gunn has carried over from the first movie, it’s fist-pumping power ballads. Now, Rolling Stone has officially cracked open Awesome Mix Vol. 2 to reveal the songs set to feature throughout Guardians 2.

One of the many things that made the first Guardians of the Galaxy so great was the music. Fans loved Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 and they're are looking forward to another epic soundtrack with Awesome Mix, Vol. 2. It will feature songs from Sweet, Fleetwood Mac, Jay and the Americans, and more that have yet to be revealed.
Some of these songs will factor into the plot of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and they will play a more important role. On top of that, it's revealed that Star-Lord enjoys listening to his tunes when he's in the heat of battle. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked to Screen Rant about the soundtrack:
"[The music] is all off the tape. It’s all off of Volume 2. I would say that the other Guardians now know that music is a thing for Peter, so in early scenes, what you see baby Groot here -...

In addition to its loveable band of losers, the original Guardians of the Galaxy film owes a large part of the success to its fantastic soundtrack, Awesome Mix, Vol. 1. The sequel's soundtrack, Vol. 2, is shaping up to be just as "awesome", with songs from groups such as Sweet, Fleetwood Mac, and Jay and the Americans, just to name a few. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told Screen Rant that music plays a much more important role in the story in the upcoming film; not only will some songs factor into the plot, but it seems that Peter Quill's penchant for catchy tunes has caught on with some of his teammates, specifically Groot. "[The music] is all off the tape. It’s all off of Volume 2," said Feige. "I would say that the other Guardians now know that music is a thing for Peter, so in early scenes, what you see baby Groot...

Amid the announcements for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at Sdcc – from a slick new logo to the unveiling of Peter Quill’s father – it’s been confirmed that Elizabeth Debicki will play the part of Ayesha.
Word comes by way of Cbm, revealing that the actress best known for The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will hail from the Sovereign in James Gunn’s 2017 sequel.

When quizzed about the origin story behind Debicki’s newcomer, who seeks out the Guardians of the Galaxy following their triumph over Ronan the Accuser, Gunn said: “Ayesha is the golden High Priestess of a genetically-perfect people called the Sovereign. She’s not a woman to be screwed with – she, and her entire world, are extraordinarily deadly.”
Whether this opens up the path for the introduction of one Adam Warlock is still up for question, but we do know...

Hall H played host to a great many presentations yesterday as the industry’s heavy-hitters paraded their wares in front of eager fans. One of those exhibitors was Marvel Studios, setting the stage for James Gunn and Co. to introduce Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
According to Gunn’s comprehensive Facebook post, those in attendance at Hall H were treated to not one, but three rip-roaring clips: “1) A piece from the film featuring Yondu, Rocket, baby Groot, and the Ravagers, 2) A behind-the-scenes featurette of me and the cast working on the forthcoming Guardians attraction at Disneyland, and 3) A special glimpse at a montage of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

Speaking of which, the Ravagers are set to play an integral role in Gunn’s spacefaring sequel, and it’s understood Marvel has recruited Evan Jones, Jimmy Urine, Stephen Blackehart, Steve Agee, Joe Fria...

I think it's unanimous amongst the GeekTyrant Hall H team, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the best footage we saw all day. That's saying a lot when we saw Wonder Woman, Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Doctor Strange All In One Afternoon!
So let's start with the footage, which unfortunately isn't online yet. I'll try to do justice with my description though...
The scene opens with Rocket and Yondu in a jail cell while the Ravagers wonder what to do with them. A soldier asks what they do with the other prisoner and if he can squish him, the guard declares he's wayyyy too cute to be destroyed. We then see the prisoner hold up a birdcage which has Baby Groot looking like an infant with well-developed legs. Groot manages to escape his cage, and we go through a sequence of Yondu and Rocket trying to explain...

Songs On Screen: All week HitFix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. When we talk about underrated directors, it's hard not to mention Walter Hill. Hill is an underrated director, the way Michael Ritchie and Peter Yates were underrated directors, the way Roger Donaldson, Joe Dante, and Fred Schepisi are underrated directors. They’re all underrated because it’s only when you look at their filmographies that the numbers start to total up and you realize, boy, he directed a lot of really good movies. In Hill’s case, that list includes "The Warriors," "48 Hours," "The Long Riders," "Southern Comfort,: "Hard Times," "Trespass," and "Wild Bill." Some great. Some solid. (My personal favorite of those is Hard Times, a pulpy film about bare-knuckle boxers in the Great Depression.) There were clunkers...

It was the 1960s and a foursome took over the popular music charts in America, but they didn’t wear mop-tops. Right before the British Invasion, the girl group known as the Shirelles soared with hits such as “Dedicated to the One I Love,” “Soldier Boy,” “Will You Still Me Tomorrow,” and “Baby It’s You,” amongst many others. The Shirelles were discovered by Florence Greenberg, an ambitious and very prescient New Jersey housewife who founded Scepter Records, and consequently changed the face of popular music forever. In her business life, Greenberg was a woman who dove right into the middle of a male-dominated record industry and created one of the most successful independent labels of the time, and on the personal side, she left her first marriage for a union with African-American songwriter Luther Dixon. The story of Greenberg,...

'Echo' Finds High Notes / Doo-wop-themed drama manages a certain poignancy depite its blatant manipulation
By David Hunter
Martin Davidson, director of "Eddie and the Cruisers" and "The Lords of Flatbush", takes us on another nostalgic cruise in the doo-wop-themed "Looking for an Echo". His angle is to set the story in present times, with Armand Assante starring as Vince, who once upon a time fronted a local band that had a few hits and then faded away.
A Regent Entertainment release with no enticements for viewers under 40, except perhaps the presence of likable heartthrob Edoardo Ballerini ("The Last Days of Disco"), "Echo" is a scattershot success at best and deliriously pumped up with its own sense of importance at worst.
Bartender, part-time musician and bus-riding lonely heart, Vince is depressed and not much of a talker. He's never gotten over the death of his wife 10 years ago, and pays close attention to his three children, including two grown sons and a daughter suffering from leukemia. A chip off the old block, Anthony (Ballerini) is a musician and unabashed fan of Vince's old group Vinnie and the Dreamers. Older brother Tommy (David Vadim) is a New York cop with a mild mean streak.
It's through frequent visits to the hospital that Vince resurrects his romantic nature with the enthusiastically available Joanne (Diane Venora), one of the nurses attending his seriously ill daughter, Tina (Christy Romano).
With a little help from Anthony, who croons Dad's biggest hit, "This I Swear", at a rock show they drop by for, Vince and Joanne have a long and successful first date.
Approaching 50 -- and passing it during the course of the movie -- Vince is bitter about the long-ago days when he fronted a band of "losers" that got shafted out of the big bucks. But with Joanne drawing him out of his funk, Vince goes along on a trip to Atlantic City, N.J., with former Dreamers bandmates, including Vic (Joe Grifasi). They have a swell time, Tina's condition goes from worse to better, and Anthony composes a new song that marks the passing of the teeny-bopper musical mojo from one generation to the next.
Executive produced by Steve Tisch ("Forrest Gump") and featuring music wrangling by Kenny Vance -- of Jay and the Americans fame as well as the creator of soundtracks for many films, including "American Hot Wax" and "Eddie and the Cruisers" -- "Echo" is thoroughly manipulative. But Assante and Venora, in fine performances, are well-matched, while the common experience of taking years to rebound from life's disappointments and tragedies leads to a warm, heartfelt atmosphere with the comfortableness of a slow air by one of the a cappella groups that inspired the filmmakers.
