- German-born director, the son of a tailor. His family moved to Britain when he was seven years old. He attended University College London and eventually became the president of the local film society, subsequently joining the BBC as a trainee editor. He then advanced to full editor and worked on television commercials before becoming a director of gritty action films on both sides of the Atlantic. From 1978, Tuchner was based in Los Angeles.
